Breakfast was excellent and good value, eggs were particularly good for a largeish establishment. Room was large and comfortable. Big choice on dinner menu. Staff were all lovely.
Large hotel, tiny village, visitors used to arrive by train. Traditional and great hotel where famous people kept suites. Quiet and peaceful place.
A lovely old building with beautiful gardens in front of it. Swallows nesting in the eaves was a lovely bonus as we love bird watching. They had a few vegan options on their dinner menu and there were options for us at breakfast too. Very convenient location not far from a lovely cafe, local shop and nature walks.
Some staff were less accommodating than others - at dinner, when I asked to sit at a particular table that was clean but not set up, the guy said he has no time to get it set up as he said he was too busy. I found it surprising, as it would have probably taken him all of 5 minutes to bring some utensils, napkins and a couple of glasses. They also got our vegan order wrong both times - once after careful explanation that we are vegan and can't consume any honey or butter, I was still served with honey and butter 'neeps' and my husband's pasta came with parmesan, even though we did ask for a vegan version. Some staff were lovely and did their best to accommodate us, while others did not seem that bothered to make sure that our orders came out as specified.
And as a few other people have already commented, the whole hotel looks a bit tired and worse for wear. Even the letters on the front of the hotel are partially falling off! It could be really nice if it had a bit of a renovation/refreshing of the rooms. The bathrooms were actually fairly nice. One other issue we had was with our room - initially we got a room on the ground floor which came with a shower. I asked the guy if he had any rooms with baths, as I do like having a bath sometimes. He did not know which rooms had a bath (I later found out he was fairly new there), but after checking a few he did come up with with room 227, which was at the top floor. We took all of our luggage to the room only to find out, it was much smaller and rather cramped, with a tiny window, the bed that barely left space to get through to the bathroom and the bathroom that was very small, so much so, that my husband, who is tall, had to sit on the toilet sideways, as otherwise his knees hit the radiator!.. The room seemed to be much warmer too, which is not great in hot weather.
Wonderful location gorgeous scenery, my happy place. Dinner was good value and very tasty.
Nothing
L'emplacement idéal pour découvrir les environs, l'accueil et la bienveillance du personnel (à la réception et au service), la chambre très cosy et confortable, très spacieuse. Une très belle expérience, bravo à toute l'équipe de l'hôtel
The food was nice. Little choice for children at breakfast.
The hotel is very run down and extremely dated. Bathrooms need modernised. Furniture in rooms very old. Such a shame as its a beautiful old building.Way overpriced.
Jardin magnifique, grand restaurant, bar et salon. Beaucoup d’espaces différents. Personnel très agréable.
Chambres un peu vieillottes, propreté moyenne.
The inside has been updated so it was comfortable. It is a very old building so fire is a bit of a worry. Staff is very nice
The outside is not maintained.
Schöner Garten und leckeres Frühstück. Sehr zuvorkommende Angestellte.
Very little to praise I am afraid. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was good.
Unfortunately the photos used for advertising this hotel are very deceptive. The beautiful gardens are, in fact, the other side of the road which passes directly in front of the hotel. Whilst the gardens are very well maintained the hotel certainly isn’t. On arrival we immediately noticed that some of the signage that is across the front of the hotel is falling down (rather like Fawlty Towers, but sadly without Basil, Cyril and Manuel!). The paintwork and the wood on the revolving front door is in a terrible state. Inside the lack of clean paintwork is obvious everywhere. See the photo of a bedroom door. In our room the blind wee broken, the windows were either paint jammed or the catches were missing , the carpet was badly stained and, in the bathroom the tap handle was broken (though I managed to fix this). The floor boards were very noisy and we wee kept awake by the floorboards of the room above whenever there was movement. I hope not all Strathmore Hotels are this bad.
Scrambled eggs were nice
Very old property. Out room still had cobwebs. Washroom shower lever was missing and even after complaint they didn’t fix it.
Le style de la déco (vieille Ecosse) est soigné , le bâtiment en lui meme est beau
Petit déjeuner assez varié dans les choix,
