The whole point of our two hour drive was to sit and look at the ocean. We heard Remy’s Loose had wonderful food and were very excited.
Sadly, the outdoor space is pretty underwhelming (it was also quite hot, though windy, so with plastic curtains covering the view) and the indoor Remy’s Loose has incredible ocean views but those are reserved for Cara only. We could easily afford Cara, but we wanted the Remy’s Loose menu, and it was lunch time. Why wouldn’t they let us sit in the dining room overlooking the Ocean? Unacceptable that a hotel of this caliber would not have ocean views, when it’s right on the Cliff Walk.
The saddest part is they have amazing ocean views, but leave it completely unused for lunch. We were very disappointed.
The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, but the rooms, especially the bathrooms, are quite outdated. We had a pleasant experience during our weekend visit, but the management was quite rude and unfriendly. They acted as if we were lucky to be able to pay $2000 a night to stay at their hotel. The staff, on the other hand, was fantastic. The rooms are in need of renovation, and the lobby is chaotic and doesn’t align with the Newport theme.
It is such a lovely setting and the public areas are charming and intimate, but choose your room well, they have specific issues that should be addressed when booking this property.
I am fortunate to stay in luxurious hotels around the world. The Chanler is among the best boutique hotels anywhere, and in my opinion, the best in the northeastern U.S. I have visited twice and will do so again. I highly recommend The Chanler to my family and friends.
Beautiful dining area with sweeping views of Easton’s Beach. Staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. Menu was very creative; each meal memorable. To walk it off - an easy cliff walk to the mansions.
I chose the Chanler for a special weekend to celebrate my husband's 75th birthday and it was the perfect choice. The hotel is beautiful, with a historic exterior, a modern, somewhat funky public interior and period-specific rooms/suites, many with expansive views of the beach below, the Cliff Walk and the large hotel lawn. I loved being "on" the Cliff Walk and it was also an easy 20 or so minute walk into town.
We chose the Georgian room on the third floor, which did not disappoint (although no elevator, so lots of extra exercise!) It was beautifully decorated in what I assume was period accuracy and had three large windows that let in lots of light, with views out to sea, a comfy king bed, and bathroom with soaking tub and large separate shower with multiple rain heads. Two services a day kept the room and bathroom pristine and filled with fresh towels. There's a fridge with complimentary water and soda and a Nespresso machine, but also fresh coffee downstairs every morning from 7am on. The staff is helpful and friendly and always available for questions or assistance.
There's a lovely bar and seating area for drinks before dinner and two restaurants, also open to the public. Breakfast is served only to guests (it is not, however a B&B), but the selection is good and the food was excellent. A car and driver is available every day between 5 and 10pm to take guests to restaurants in town (about a mile or so away) and pick them up afterward. This was a really welcome and delightful service and the driver was a lovely guy who had many great local stories to share.
Only two surprising and very minor points: One is that their internet service is quite slow. The other is that most hotels of this calibre typically provide some tangible recognition of a special occasion: bottle of wine or champagne, fruit and chocolate, etc. Here, only a card with birthday greetings from the staff was on display. But these are small "nits" and I will definitely plan another visit. And I'd recommend this highly to anyone wanting a really special experience in Newport.
My wife and I were looking for a place to get away midweek that wasn’t too far from our home. We found the Chanler online and was intrigued. We booked three nights and the Chanler exceeded our expectations. From our first greeting by the valet team to the front desk services as well as dining, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Exceptional designed space, friendly warm and welcoming staff, Staying at the Chanler is like stepping into a dream
So heartbroken that they renovated away the mansion’s most gorgeous spaces. Women’s bathroom was a destination of its own with birds and details everywhere. Entrance was gorgeous. They striped it all away in favor of modern details that any hotel could have.
The outdoor spaces (outdoor restaurant and outdoor fountain area) remain subpar, and they chose to allocate scarce resources and time to renovate the parts of the mansion that were already extraordinary. Beyond confusing how a world-class team would choose to do that.
The outdoor chairs for the restaurant are nothing special — same kind of chairs you’d find in 100 restaurants in a city anywhere. Instead of investing in attention to detail and upgrading the outdoor covered restaurant to a world-class, French Riviera style restaurant, they chose to get rid of one of the world’s prettiest bathrooms and prettiest lobbies?
The outdoor area by the fountain is also completely unsused. Makes it feel like a cheap wedding venue rather than a destination, boutique resort. I thought “the next chapter” meant they would upgrade the place — instead, they downgraded it.
From the second you make the booking, the staff at The Chanler make your stay truly exceptional. We enjoyed a couple expertly prepared cocktails and caviar service in living room prior to the free concierge car service to and from our booked dinner reservation. We returned to the lounge for a nightcap and excellent turn down service in our room. The staff and charm of the Chandler truly make you feel like royalty.
Have been staying st the Chanler since 2017. Stays are always fantastic. Unique facility with themed rooms, great view, and amazing staff.
Beautiful setting and perfect location. Stayed in the Block Island villa and was not disappointed. The car service was also very useful.
I had a wonderful experience staying at the Chanler hotel. It was a fantastic stay, and I truly enjoyed my time there. I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
We just had cocktails and and hot chocolate. The service bartender and
Cocktails were superb. Would definitely go back!
We have stayed at 5-star hotels in many countries, but nobody does it like the Chanler. Every single person you encounter has the highest level of professionalism and attention to every detail.
Pricey but worth it for a truly premium experience. One of those rare hotels where they make you feel truly welcome and bend over backwards to make your visit memorable. We have stayed at many top tier hotels throughout the world and the Chanler is definitely in our top 5. We will most definitely be repeat customers.
Attention to detail. Amazing staff. Great food.

We are always so impressed with the level of service and detail The Chanler provides. There is simply no other way to experience Newport.
The Chanler is our go to place for personal celebrations-our anniversary, birthdays, "We need a break" days. Everything about the place is so well done. Attention to detail is evident everywhere. The staff is personable and gracious. The decor is beautiful and the restaurants are special. Cara, the main food attraction is the best we have ever encountered (and we have been to all fifty states and many countries around the world looking for fine dining). The food of the nine course Chef's Table dinner was simply the best we have ever had. Each course was beautifully presented (as food, not sculpture!) and just delightful. Chef Jasinski and his staff explained each preparation and his pleasure in his work and his interaction with his staff which we observed from our table enhanced the whole experience. Kudos to The Chanler!
My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary and were stunned by the beauty of the hotel. The staff made it even better with their professionalism and promptness with every request. We can't wait to come back!
