Nice and clean
Very disappointing to say the least. My friends and I booked three rooms here for a bank holiday weekend, expecting a nice 4-star spa getaway. We were completely wrong.
It started at check-in. It was windy and raining outside, and the automatic entrance doors were stuck wide open, leaving a queue of guests freezing in the lobby. There were three staff members behind the counter but only one actually working. When we enquired about the spa access for our three rooms, we were bizarrely told we had to share one single key card between all of us. No robes or slippers were offered, which was a sign of things to come. Parking was also an issue—by 4pm there was nothing available, despite the hotel not even appearing to be at capacity.
The "spa" itself was a joke, and none of this was mentioned at booking, in the confirmation emails, or on the follow-up call I made to enquire about the facilities before arriving. To get to the pool, you have to walk in your swimwear with bare, wet feet through a carpeted public area, past the pub, and down a spiral staircase. When you get down there, the changing room hot water doesn't work. The steam room was completely out of order (revealing a weird setup with four plastic chairs), the sauna barely fits three people, and the pool was full of kids and clearly in need of a clean—there was visible hair and mucus floating in the water. The chlorine smell was so aggressive our eyes watered the second we walked in. It was appalling from a hygiene perspective.
The rest of the hotel is incredibly rundown and in desperate need of a renovation. The carpets are thin, frayed, and coming up in areas, and the woodwork and banisters are completely worn down. Because of the pool setup, the entire property smells of damp. The rooms are small and modest, the temperature wasn't well controlled, the sheets were itchy, and you have to go down to the front desk just to get towels.
The shower features a cheap "all-in-one" soap that was so watered down it didn't even clean anything.
To top it off, the "restaurant and pub" is just a glorified living room with an unattended bar. We had to go to the front desk to ask for help, and the staff were clearly annoyed about being asked to do anything. We weren't even allowed to see a food menu, and the restaurant was closed the entire time we were there.
TLDR; unless you want to walk barefoot through a public pub to swim in a dirty pool, don't bother coming here. For this price point, you get significantly better value, cleanliness, and service from a basic Premier Inn or Travelodge. There is no way Visit England would find this acceptable for a 4-star rating.
Nice bed every comfortable & service with a smile 😊
