Location
Beautiful view from our balcony and amazing location; walked around entire lake and all over town with ease. Modernized older building with some maintenance issues but great free breakfast and staff!
I am writing to formally complain about my recent one-night stay in room 105. Given the premium price point of over $300 for a single night, the experience fell well below acceptable standards.
During my stay, I encountered two significant issues:
Noise Disturbance: There was a loud, slamming doorway directly beneath my room that caused constant noise throughout the night, preventing restful sleep. When I reported this to the front desk, the staff member on duty, Tom, was dismissive and unhelpful.
Facility Failure: The shower in my room was completely blocked. It flooded the bathroom floor within three minutes of use, which caused significant inconvenience while I was attempting to prepare for my day.
Most concerning was the lack of support. When I alerted the front desk to the flooded bathroom, I was initially denied a late checkout to resolve the issue, and no alternative facilities (such as a gym or a clean room) were offered. After arguing and receiving a late check out at 12:30, when I returned to the room at 11:00 AM, my key card had been deactivated prematurely. Gaining access required multiple interactions with the same front desk staff, whose demeanor was dismissive and unprofessional.
This level of service and maintenance is unacceptable for a hotel at this price point. I would appreciate a response regarding how you plan to rectify this situation.
The hotel has seen better days. The rooms, hallways, and common areas were in rough shape, and the carpets and furniture were stained. The pictures on the website don't reflect the current condition of the hotel.
My wife and I were quite disappointed and left the hotel after 1 night of our planned 3-night stay.
The good things: location is great. Price was reasonable for the area. Breakfast had a decent number of choices. Room was good size and had fairly comfortable beds. Lobby was big with a lot of areas to sit. Loved the water dispenser and 24 hr coffee in the lobby. The lobby area was clean.
The bad and hence the low rating: Clarification - I am not a germaphobe. I'm not some overly picky person when it comes to cleanliness. I would just like basic cleanliness. Our hotel room was NOT clean. When we got there, there was long dark hair in the shower and a hair ball on the carpet in the room. I accidentally dropped a band aid in the bathroom on day 1 and forgot about it. I found it on day 3 and cleaned it up. Housekeeping never cleaned it up despite supposedly cleaning our room for 2 days. On day 2, housekeeping took all the towels, washcloths, etc. (which were hanging up, not on the floor) and left us with none. We had to go to the front desk at 9 pm and ask for towels and then wait 20 min for them. Housekeeping never made up the top bunk bed. Not a big deal but just added to the feeling of poor service. The parking is not good. There are limited spaces, so people ended up just making their own spots. The shower design is dumb. There is a glass 1/2 wall so no matter how you stand in the shower or how you angle the shower head, water goes out the end onto the floor. Luckily the bathmat collected most of it. Lastly, although breakfast was good overall, on day 2, the staff refused to put out carafes of coffee. So, there was just the Keurig for the whole hotel at breakfast. Other days, the staff put out big carafes which helped let everyone serve themselves quicker. Lastly, the pool was not usable. They were waiting on an inspection from the state. Not a big deal for us but just wanted to let people know if you're planning on using the pool. Make sure it's open.
Rooms are not as advertised. We supposed to have room with a balcony and view on the lake. Room we got had only side view. Room was old and dirty. We got moved to new room which did not had balcony. It was dirty as well. Bunch of items where broken
You could hear EVERYTHING from the hall and adjoining rooms. We finally put towels and pillows at the bottom of door to help muffle the sound. We only saw 1 employee the entire stay though he was very nice it took us over 20 minutes to check in (even though I had already registered via the online form they sent me). The room was very clean but not at all what was pictured. We also had a balcony that we requested but no seating and was so rusted we were concerned to go out on it. The hotel as a whole seems run down and unfinished. The halls are dark and dreary and the carpet was very VERY stained. There was no coffee, iron or ironing board in the room. I was going to call the front desk and realized there was no phone. I called the hotel from my cell phone and got a voicemail. The pool table, air hockey table, coffee machine in the lobby as well as all the ice machines and vending machines were also out of order.
Overall not what we wanted or were expecting. Other than the location being good everything else was not worth it. It seemed like they were not ready to open.
If you’re looking for a clean bed and good location. That is all you will get.
Furniture in suite was stained and dingy. Pet hairs from previous guests ended up stuck to our clothes. Terrible sound proofing - loud upstairs neighbors kept us up at night. Unable to access streaming services through room's strange TV subscription. Breakfast consisted of low quality, prepackaged industrialized "food." For the price, we expected better.
The hotel is basically an attempt at updating an old motel. It’s close to mirror lake which is nice but our room is dark and dank. There’s a musty odor. There is no natural light and barely enough lamps. Our blinds are broken and there has been no attempt to replace or fix them despite us asking. The hotel lobby has ONE keurig machine for the entire hotel (there is no coffee in rooms) and they were out of pods yesterday. There’s been zero ice in the ice machine for two days now and today I had to call twice to get housekeeping to come to our room….and they still just left clean towels and didn’t tidy up the room. We will not be staying here again.
The website photos are misleading. The exterior of the hotel is not well maintained.
It appears the renovation budget was spent on the lobby area. It's very spacious with many seating areas and a small bar.
The elevator is in need of repair. The hallways are very dark.
The double queen suite with a lake view balcony is very spacious. However, the balcony did not have chairs. Management did provide two chairs, three days after checking in, on our last day.
The room needs a deep clean to remove the cobwebs, dirt in the corners and on the baseboards. The floor under the bed was very dirty, obviously hadn't been cleaned in quite a while. Management acknowledged housekeeping is short staffed. We left the room at 9:30 on two consecutive days, arrived back at 4:00 to find our room had not been serviced. The staff falsely claimed we had a do not disturb sign on the door.
The location is excellent, a quick walk to Mirror Lake, dining and shopping. There are many nicer hotels nearby in the same price range. I wouldn't recommend spending your travel dollars here.
Stay far away from Laurel Lake Placid! The rooms are dirty; dead bugs, live bugs hanging from corners, spiderwebs with hair woven through, hair in the shower, black mold and clear water damage leaving a pungent smell in the air. The floors were leaving our feet black. The front desk staff tells you what you want to hear in a near condescending tone. I was argued with at one point about being offered a room change (I was never offered any resolution to my complaints). No pool, broken air hockey table, the amenities boast a fitness area- none to be seen. The grounds are unkempt. The GM practices poor management.
My husband and I spent 3 nights and loved the location even though we had no view of the lake. The beds were awesome but the room was extreme sparse. No chairs or tables (except one between the beds) , no desk or anywhere to sit but the beds. The hotel has a very wide open area with games which makes it very family oriented.
Very nice lobby and the room was spacious.
Breakfast is the weakest point.
Location, and bar, pool table was nice
I was quoted a price and asked if that included all fees and was told yes. The room would have been about $320, and it ended up costing $478, which I wouldn't have stayed there knowing that. We booked a room for our friends, same price and their room was so much smaller than ours which was uncomfortable for us. Then in the morning their shower backed up and flooded the room, and they were very unhappy and I felt responsible since I booked the room, so it was not a good experience having our friends upset. I think booking.com should have been honest with us with the fees. The room was not worth $478 at all.
