No cabinets next to bed, mirror was too far away from plug for hair dryer, dirty bathroom floor, bath stained. Security lock on window broken. Only supplied white sugar in room. Heating thermostat too high to turn down. B/fast was ok, cereals only 2 choices like cardboard. unfortunately dinner what can I say, powder soup with lumps, not just one night, selection for meals not enough, frozen battered fish, fish fingers also battered, chops were dry, cottage pie watery with frozen veg. Also vegetables available were all from freezer. Dessert was cakes selection of 3 every night but mainly all the same, there was rice pudding one night then custard. Well evening bingo £10 for 3 cards which were all the same numbers, but the amount of money we all put in did not match the number for the prizes. Asked for milk one night only but never recieved. Last but not least sat at 2 different tables at night with chewing gum underneath, 3 curtains in dinning area were tied back with large white bins bags, then were changed to 3 tea towels.
Honestly I felt so let down by the cleanliness of our room will never return here
A decent enough stay , refurbished room & plenty of hot water too. The food was hit & miss breakfast ok , but dinner was served with cheap mixed vegetables on some evenings . The staff especially Andrew were great & no Duncan there either YIPEEEEEE.
Lovely hotel in a good location, friendly staff, and food and entertainment good value for the money.
After having looked at these reviews I have to say this hotel is pretty basic but you get what you pay for and the staff do anything to accommodate and go above and beyond , Iman the manager was a lovely girl, maintenance guy was lovely mannered , the house keeping and hospitality staff were all lovely i seriously do think that some people need to watch how they speak and treat others and address there manner there is no need to take frustration and anger out on the staff you speak to a person how you'd be expected to be spoken too , i witnessed this whilst i visited . We had a good enough room nice and warm with a sea view the meal were good and the entertainment was average but also good. I would go back here it only needs a lick of paint and a wee upgrade . Remember folk there was such a thing called lock down which hit a lot of businesses people need to reel themselves in and act accordingly .
We booked for Friday and Saturday on valentines weekend , we stayed for 1 night as it was so bad , the room was filthy and the patio doors out on to the rusty balcony banged all night , we stacked chairs and a tv cabinet against it to try and stop it . There were no other rooms free and they would not refund us . In all it was just an absolute nightmare and we would not recommend staying there.
Oh dear! Having just had 2 nights at the Claremont hotel in Blackpool, 2 nights at the Dolby Hotel in Liverpool and 2 nights at the Waterfront Hotel in Southport we arrived at The Grand hotel in Llandudno for 2 nights...oh dear!
First the good points, parking is free for blue badge holders, and reception looked quite nice. That's it, the end of the good bits.
On entering the room, I must have missed the bit where I booked a themed room. The theme being "a prison cell". The walls were painted the most disgusting shade of diarrhoea. No pictures on the walls, the curtains barely holding on, the sides of the radiator hanging off, the lovely art work of mould on 1 wall, the best sorry, worst wiring I've ever seen for the towel rail in the bathroom and pillows so hard that appeared to be stuffed with cement!
If on booking in you are given keys to room 432 just refuse to stay in that room. We didn't eat or even have a drink in this hotel, we just couldn't wait to leave. Both of us struggled to get any sleep. The pillows really were solid and uncomfortable. Please take a look at the photos I took and think twice before booking this hotel. Just being in that room was depressing, and I had a definite shift in my mood. It just wasn't a nice room, I felt really down at having to spend 2 nights.
Location of hotel is good, but staying in the Grand Hotel left me depressed, feeling like I'd had 2 nights in a youth hostel. I certainly cannot recommend this hotel to anyone. I paid just over £100 for 2 nights for 2 people, and honestly that was £99 too much. I feel upset that they took my money and put us in a room like that. Perhaps I should have confronted the hotel while we were there, but I just wanted out of there without any confrontation. All I can say is never again.
Pleasently surprised at our 5 day stay, fabulous food every day especially the christmas dinner, great chef,***** room was nice & warm, All the staff were very friendly & nothing too much trouble, the only downful was the evening entertainment, Just some music videos would do. Will be back. Trev
My partner and I booked the hotel as we were completing a walk in the area and believed it would be a suitable and comfortable location. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing from the moment we arrived.
The entrance was crowded with people smoking, and the reception area smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. This was unpleasant and immediately gave a poor first impression.
The room itself was tired and shabby. The main ceiling light did not work, nor did the wall light, leaving the room inadequately lit. The toilet door lock was also broken and would not shut, which is completely unacceptable in terms of privacy. The bathroom was in an unacceptable condition overall: there were visible stains running up the wall beside the toilet, the area was dirty, and several tiles were cracked. This raised serious concerns about hygiene and maintenance.
The hallways were poorly maintained. Empty beer glasses were left outside rooms when we arrived and were still there when we checked out the following day. While at reception, we also witnessed another couple reporting that there was blood all over their bedroom and requesting a room change, which was extremely concerning.
We requested two extra pillows and were told we were “on the list.” After waiting over two hours with no delivery, we had to return to reception and ask again.
I would also like to note that photographs were taken of all the issues identified during our stay. Additionally, the photographs used to advertise the hotel online are nothing like the rooms actually provided, which I believe is misleading.
Considering the price paid, the overall experience was disgusting, filthy, and entirely unacceptable—far more like a homeless hostel than a hotel. The condition, cleanliness, and service fell well below any reasonable standard.
We enjoyed our stay. Views from the Seaview rooms are amazing. Staff were friendly and helpful and having entertainment on site is a rare luxury these days. They have spent some money upgrading the building but it could do with a bit more work. Personally I think it is good that there are still hotels in the budget end of the spectrum. A few years ago almost every hotel suddenly seemed to feel they should only offer executive or exclusive accommodation and make you pay through the nose! I don't care if the decor is dated as long as the price is right and I get a good breakfast and a good view.
Meet and greeting. Terrible. It looks like the receptionist sleeps in a room behind reception. The place looks like a Working site ,cement bags everywhere .room ok but not allowed to go in balcony and £20 extra for a sea view coffee machine to dark to look at instructions as is not a ceiling light ..toilet floor is paint drops everywhere, maintenance need to cover floors before painting. Shower head sprays everywhere. And if you want a bath get your own bath soap and taps. ,in the bath. Really disappointed. House keeping is great but cob webs on balcony doors .Hopefully they will invest in the hotel and make it great again.most important is meet and great.and explain to your guest what they're up to before you charge £20 more for sea view with a balcony that we can't use .hope this coment will help you and hopefully I will see you again in the future.
Me and my wife have just got back from a 2 night stay at the grand, we did a night last year and enjoyed it so booked again,
Check in is from 3pm, rooms are basic and clean although we did find someone's toothbrush behind the bedroom cabinet and a half eaten bar of chocolate under the bed so a bit more checking wouldn't harm,
We didn't eat here so can't comment on food, plenty of people seemed to be though there are plenty of reasonable places to eat in Llandudno,
Bar prices are reasonable could do with a bit more choice Tetley's was off all weekend which was a shame
Entertainment at night is a couple of singers then karaoke it's a nice atmosphere and they are both very good and likeable
Don't go and expect luxury the reception and the downstairs is nice and original the rooms aren't or our rooms haven't been, for what we paid we are more than happy with it and are looking to book again when the dates come out,
Tip if you fancy a nice walk turn right out of the hotel and walk round the orme and back into Llandudno took us about 2.5hrs lovely views, there's a cafe half way up
Went with myself and 3 friends on a coach tour , Hotel was bit run down ,bed was clean bathroom could have been cleaner , food wasnt 5 star but edible and plenty of , staff were all lovely entertainment was great throughout day and evening all good singers was over bells so might have been more entertainment than usual bar was deffinatly reasonably priced for a hotel , night before was due to leave had few strange things going on between 2 am and 4 am with voices lights and heavy breathing was bit freaked out so recorded sounds to let my freinds here as they wouldnt have beleoved me . They were saying someone was having a party but it was deffo not that and a lot of clinking and clunking noises , then i heard it has a reputation it is haunted well i do agree i never shut an eye all night after hearing what i heard and listning to the recording there was a light flying around room that i couldnt see with the naked eye but was on phone deffo spooky
Having read some of the negative reviews on here, I approached the hotel with some apprehension - it was the hotel used by a coach travel company and the only one offering a single room. So I wasn't expecting much.
I couldn't have been more wrong. The room was simply furnished but warm, comfortable and (most importantly) immaculately clean. The en-suite was equally clean, rather in need of a refurbishment but everything worked, the over-bath shower was like standing in the way of a jet wash (I doubt I've ever been cleaner!) and the water was consistently hot. Yes, things looked a bit tired and dated but, frankly, so do I ... and the place dripped with character, a magnificent entrance lobby, fantastic views over the bay from the lounges and any rooms on that side of the building (these are premium rooms) and you could sense its former opulence. In its heyday it attracted people like Lily Langtry and Winston Churchill as well as, ahem, Margaret Thatcher.
Food was perfectly acceptable if unadventurous - it knows its clientele, coach tours of people in their sixties, seventies and above want things with which they're familiar. Buffet service, help yourself to as much or as little as you want. The menu was rather limited - three main courses at dinner - and, if you're vegetarian (as I am) you need to request this from the staff at each meal. Which is actually a good thing: I have frequently gone hungry at buffets because the carnivores have thought, "Ooh, that looks nice," and grabbed all the veggie food before I got to it. But it's worth knowing that you do need to ask; nobody told me on the first night and I had to concoct a meal from salad, potatoes and so on.
The cabaret in the downstairs bar (the ballroom, back in the glory days of the hotel) was pretty grim - a guy belting out a medley of 1960s to 1980s hits with no particular attention to details like tune ... But most guests were of an age to want to listen to Michael Jackson, Queen and so on covers, even though I'm roughly that age too and nothing would be less appealing to me. One man's meat, as they say ... The main bar on the Reception level was much quieter and really did feel like the lounge bar of a decent hotel. Drinks were very competitively priced, cheaper than my local pub. Staff immaculately dressed, polite and attentive.
Across the hotel, the staff were brilliant. best of any hotel in which I've stayed - and that's quite a few, including some top names. Attentive, pleasant and they didn't stand around chatting to each other while on duty. They had the skill of knowing just how long to leave you after finishing a course before taking away the plate so that it neither looked as though they were hovering over you nor that they'd forgotten you. Excellent. Bar staff were just as good and made you feel as though you were the most important person in the world at that point. Exactly as it should be.
Downsides. The balconies to the rooms are closed off for safety reasons. The decor in the bedrooms (but not the public areas) is a bit dated - woodchip wallpaper, things like that. As mentioned, the bathrooms are seriously dated. The former access from the hotel to the pier is closed and looks to have been so for decades. And if you do come by car, parking is some distance away on public car parks for which the local council will charge you an arm and a leg during the daytime although (at the time of writing) it's free overnight.
Would I go back? Definitely. For three nights half board, travel from the northeast and a day tour of Snowdonia, the cost was £199 per person (£45 extra if you're travelling single.) That is amazing value, and it's a bit churlish to complain about dated bathrooms when you're getting this level of service in this location for that price.
Went on the 23rd to the 27th Dec,we had a really nice time.someone gave a false review and said entertainment went on till 2am.thats just not true ,it finished at 10 30 every night, staff were lovely, food was basic ,but ok,clean bed, comfortable lounge with good entertainment, very good value for for money, want more, then pay more.
Me and my boyfriend having taken the reviews into account we stayed here Saturday night we have always wondered what it was like to stay here we had a room over looking the sea which was very beautiful even on a winters night and day I took some photos and videos on the balcony we had our food out at the local restaurants in Llandudno which were very nice the thing at night that was a little bit of a pain cause we were on the 4 floor at night it was very windy which caused the balcony floors to whistle which after a while it soon settled i can't really blame the hotel for that i totally understand this is an old building id love to come in the summer and catch the views then x
I travelled with a coach tour and stayed here for 4 nights. The room I had was a twin with ample towels, tea and coffee tray supplied. The room was ok for me though decor quite plain with no pictures. We had a bath but no shelf in bathroom for toiletries. Food was good and a good choice of dishes.Chef was constantly topping up the breakfast items.Restaurant staff are all wonderful especially Jo and Andrew who were both so gracious.Nothing was too much trouble. Night reception staff and Paul the Asst Manager also wonderful in way their customer skills were shown. The hotel is an old hotel but it's Prime location and wonderful staff have shown me the wow factor in staying here again.
Location good, Atmosphere okay, Rooms well once I got up off the floor in shock 😮 and double checked I had checked into the hotel and not youth hostel. I can only describe it as a broom cupboard with a bed in. Bits of plastic on the floor , no light above the bed or anywhere to be seen, mould on curtains. Bathroom well need I say more. I did request to be moved from the hostel to the hotel I was finally upgraded. The staff in restaurant are lovely, food okay but the hotel once you past the ground floor I suggest you go not expecting a lot.
So I understand the Beetles and Winston Churchill stayed there. The Grand is not very Grand after all.
We arrived at the hotel on Monday 1st December. I was surprised how nice the downstairs looked on 1st arrival. We were checked in and told which lift to take with our own baggage. I am 77 my friend is 88. We had no help at all from the staff. We ended up on different floors. After we struggled I was shocked when I opened the door. The room was disgusting. So I went back downstairs to complain. I was given another room which wasn't much better. The food was cold. We had gone for the Turkey and tinsel package. Which we didn't get. Very very disappointed my friend has never been one b4 and was so excited to go. She couldn't believe how horrible everything was. They told us there was no housemaids so you had to make your own bed. No fresh towels daily plus we had to get our own tea coffee from reception. I can promise you one thing. THAT IS WE WILL NEVER STEP FOOT INTO YOUR HOTEL AGAIN. We will not recommend it to anyone.
The hotel is well placed to access everything in Llandudno. I have mobility issues and you do not have to climb any steps, it is all ramped and there are lifts.
We were a little sceptical having read some dreadful reviews but…
The hotel was very clean & lovely and warm.
The staff are, without exception, very cheerful, friendly and obliging. They all appear to work very hard.
As stated in other reviews, the dining is self service which I don’t have a problem with. All the food was hot and there was a varied menu. The Turkey meal was similar to that at a Toby Carvery…Michael & his team work very hard.
The dining room and the downstairs was decked out with Christmas decorations.
When we arrived, we found we had been upgraded to a Premium Seaview room with balcony.
We chose this hotel on our Caledonian Turkey & Tinsel week. I’m glad we did. It suited us very well.
Obviously in its heyday this hotel was magnificent but ignore the rubbish reviews. There were some people staying there who moaned about everything…obviously not enough to occupy themselves with!
