What a delightful surprise - we had no idea Solar would turn out to be the best hotel of 25 hotels in our recent tour of Europe. From the superb location - highest in Lisbon, to exceptional staff, complimentary champagne and peacocks - we are still telling stories about this heritage hotel.

Schöner Garten wo die Pfauen des Burgheländes ihre Aufwartung machen! Gutes Frühstück und kostenloser Aperitif am Abend. Nette Restaurants in der Mähe, die das Hotel empfiehlt. Zimmer ok aber nichts besonderes
Keine Steckdose im Bad oder sonst vor Spiegel zum Fönen der Haare. Unser Zimmer war etwas dunkel mit kleinem Fenster.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. Loved the evening happy hour and honor bar. We met fellow travelers there and got good restaurant recommendations. Hotel staff helped with reservations.
The room was beautiful and comfortable. But the best part of this hotel is the service. The staff are great. But wow the amenities- water (still, with lemon, with orange) and ice and glasses when you enter is so refreshing. Coffee, tea, and pastries all the time! And each evening there is sparkling wine out to self serve. There is also an honor bar. It was so wonderful to have dinner and come back to the peace and quite of the hotel and share some sparkling wine each night. Then port in the room. Just wow!! The hotel was beautiful and tranquil.
Ubers would take you up and you would still have a 7-10 minute walk up to the hotel. Taxis would typically go to the entrance of the castle. There is a bus line that has a stop there too (probably the best option). But when leaving, I recommend asking the hotel call a taxi so it will come to the door.
What a truly lovely hotel! It was in a peaceful part of Lisbon old town, inside the walls of the Castelo. Beautifully furnished, our room was so comfortable, it was at the top. The hotel provided us with a tray with kettle, cups and delicious biscuits, which was refreshed every day. Breakfast was served from 07.30 until 12pm and consisted of everything from fruit, yoghurts, breads, cakes, smoked salmon, sardines, eggs and bacon - too much to list and all delicious! There’s an honesty bar in the main lounge and coffee, tea, cakes and fruit served all day long, and free sparkling wine opened at 6pm every evening.
The courtyard is so beautiful and cosy and has resident peacocks who are very tame and beautiful to watch - they also live in the grounds of the Castelo and breed there.
The staff are so friendly and helpful, we felt so at home during our week stay, we didn’t want to leave! Thanks to all at the hotel for making our holiday so enjoyable :)
