Holiday Inn Express & Suites Destin - Miramar Beach by IHG

Room floors were filthy. Our first room did not lock from the outside and it took a whole day for us to realize. They did however switch our room immediately after we brought it to their attention.

This particular Holiday Inn was in rough condition. While not necessarily dirty, it does need some major upgrading/maintenance. The pool was dirty with calcium buildup along the sides, something that wiping down once a week or so would fix but didn’t look like was ever done. The waterfall feature was barely noticeable because the water wasn’t flowing well. If your room is around back and that’s where you choose to park (like we did), don’t expect it to be nice to look at. It didn’t look like any lawncare had been done in a while. The grass was tall, shrubs unkept, and weeds everywhere. The outside walls either needed pressure washed or the paint refreshed as they’re looking old and dingy. The inside was decent but even it needed a refresh along the hallways and the rooms. Lots of scraps and marks on the walls and doors. Our room was spacious and the bed comfortable, but that’s about it. It didn’t have a kick board under the AC so the bottom was exposed which made me nervous since we had our crawling daughter with us. There was no coffee maker, the fridge barely kept our groceries cool and definitely don’t buy anything that needs kept frozen, and we only had 2 sets of towels for the whole stay. They don’t do routine housekeeping either. You’re left with a lousy broom and expected to do it yourself. Oh, and I’m still waiting for the $150 security fee or whatever it is to be refunded. Lastly was the location, it wasn’t great either. There’s now a water treatment plant next door that blocks what used to be a straight shot to the road that leads down to the beach and to Alvin’s surf shop. So where the beach probably used to be close enough to walk, it isn’t anymore. You have to load up every day and drive to the beach. So heads up if you have a child like ours who hates the car seat.. lol

Check in time is 3 pm, we were there at 2:30, checked in amd went up to the room but the room was not cleaned, there were still towels and sheets all over the floor. Had to wait for almost 2 hours. We understood it might be because it’s a holiday so they are short staffed but they shouldn’t have us come up if it’s not clean, seems like there was no communication between the housekeeping staff and the front desk. Same thing also happened to the room across us.

The only thing is the pool wasn't ready.

The pool was closed.

Cleanliness- We stayed for three nights and didn’t get our room refreshed one time. Only until we asked the front desk who was so gracious to ask Sarah who was only responsible for check-outs to refresh the room. Luckily she was next door refreshing a check out room when we came back from the beach. Coming back from a long day at the beach and Crab Island you expect a clean room to relax in and refresh for the evening.

Also, the pool was down for maintenance during some of the hottest days, so you had no choice but to go to the beach.

Jessica at the front desk was nice and very apologetic about our situation and we appreciated it.

The room’s floor wasn’t clean at all; it’s a light-colored floor, so the lack of cleanliness was obvious—there were plenty of stains and sand. Upon entering the room, I had to sweep it and wipe the entire floor with a small, wet towel just to feel it was actually clean; I have three kids and didn’t want them getting sand all over the bed. Otherwise, everything about the hotel was great! If you asked me if I’d come back, I’d say absolutely!
