The hotel is really pretty and traditional. The pool area is just perfect for a city stay in the summer. The rooms are simple and nothing fancy but comfy. We reported shower and socket issues but it didn't impact our stay. We loved the walk down into Trastevere, the walk back is uphill so be aware. We'd be very happy to stay here again.
Slightly tired plumbing and sockets but it's a traditional italian hotel, no biggie. Having to wear swimming hats in the pool!
Clean, comfortable bed, lovely pool, beautiful gardens.
Lack of TV after a long day exploring. Called desk, said someone would be up, took 50 min, after asking again. Then man came to room fiddled with cables, the said wait ten minutes and if not working, to call again. Three nights without TV, with constant "circle of doom' interrupted signal. Also assumptions made that everyone has a smart phone to access TV. Poor engagement from staff, just apologizing for inconvenience, considering it cost over €200 a night, one would expect something so small to be fixed.

está na hora de trocar o colchão (com buraco). Porque não tem uma barra de segurança dentro do box do chuveiro? Não é comum na Itália? Nunca vimos. Na piscina também não tem barras para entrar na água...
We loved the outdoor space, the wonderful attentive staff and the cleanliness. We also found the location to be perfect. A short walk from Trastevere, but benefitting from the higher elevation so slightly cooler.

La situation un peu à l’écart du centre de Rome, en hauteur,dans un quartier arboré et calme (tout est relatif), une énorme piscine extérieure (rarissime à Rome, en tous cas dans cette gamme de prix)
Le petit déjeuner, d’une grande banalité.
L’amabilité toute relative du personnel, mais il ne faut pas oublier qu’en Italie les romains ont la réputation d’être bourrus et abrupts
This is the 4th time that my husband and I have stayed at the Grand Hotel Gianicolo. I just love the location, but I've been to Rome many times and do not do as much sightseeing as a first time visitor who may prefer being closer to the center. I would not let that deter you, if you love tranquility and old world service or if you have car rental. You can safely park across the street from the hotel, where parking is plentiful, or pay the hotel to park on their grounds. That is another reason we like the location. Parking is super easy there and the area is safe.
We enjoy staying in Trastevere, especially during the hot summer weather in Rome. We especially appreciate being able to cool off in the large pool within the enclosed walls of the hotel. A former convent, the rooms are not especially large, but are comfortable and the location is perfect to escape the downtown crowds after a day of sightseeing, shopping or working! Trastevere is a busy area with lots of shops, restaurants and historic spots. The center is an easy 20 minute walk from the hotel. Also, the view from the Janiculum Hill, only 5 minutes from the hotel, is breathtaking. We prefer relaxing at the hotel in the evening or even spending a few hours at the pool in late afternoon, when it is still very hot in late summer. It is a pleasure to enjoy the vast buffet breakfast in the beautifully decorated dining area. The bed is very comfortable.
We often take a taxi to the center of the city for 14-18 Euros, even when we have a car. We also took the bus this time. It is 2 blocks froms a few bus stops that take you downtown in about 20 mintues for about 2 Euro. If you do not have a prepaid ticket, you can buy a ticket on the bus with your credit card.
The staff is highly professional, courteous and helpful. My husband left something in the room and we received an immediate response to our inquiry and staff is arranging to send it to us in the U.S. We will be returning here in the winter.
The only drawback is the location, if you want to be downtown, but for me, this is an advantage and why we keep returning. The pool was a definite plus with the heat wave Rome experienced this summer. Also, the roof garden is currently being renovated and will be ready for October. The area is beautiful and I am sure that this will be a draw.
Dining in the garden is enchanting, but I would have liked to see a few more traditional dishes on the menu. The service was impeccabile, the homemade bread was delicious, but I was not enticed by the gourmet dishes listed on the menu. I had spaghetti, which was OK, but not up to my expectations, and I only ordered it because I really could not eat any of the other dishes.
Das Frühstück war ok, aber für Italien hätten wir uns besseren Kaffee und mehr frisches Essen gewünscht (Obst, Gemüse etc)
Die Türen waren leider extrem laut und die Wände sehr dünn. Wir haben unsere Nachbarzimmer immer gehört, die Böden waren auch sehr laut und der Flur hellhörig. Die Schlafqualität hat leider sehr gelitten. Pool war ok, aber ich habe noch nie erlebt dass alle Badekappen tragen mussten. Gemäß Mitarbeiter damit der Pool wegen den Haaren weniger oft gereinigt werden muss. Bei dieser Hitze war das eher unangenehm
