The hotel is very nice, staff is very helpfull and friendly. Only minor point i have is that the room doors cannot close without a lot of noise meaning banging doors all night. The doors should close with a lot less sound to prevent excessive noise for other guests.
This hotel is absolutely gorgeous with a helpful, friendly staff to guarantee your stay is perfect. Monika at reception helped to ensure our stay was fabulous. Located near the city center. Daily breakfast with many choices. I will return!
John was fantastic, he organised a taxi for me and the girls! He was so kind and made sure we were looked after. What a star
Beautiful and centrally located with wonderful and helpful staff and amazing breakfasts

This review is mainly geared to American Express Platinum cardholders who might book this through their "Hotel Collection". The George does NOT upgrade your room if you select the "Cosy" size room.
We figured we'd get the automatic upgrade to a "Premium" room, as we usually get thanks to AmEx, but the woman at check-in gave us a very vague excuse as to why the hotel wouldn't allow it. The George did not appear to be fully booked during our visit, so I suspect they have a philosophy of "never upgrade the cheap room".
It wouldn't have been a big deal except that the "Cosy" room is small, small, SMALL. One of the smallest hotel rooms I've ever been in. Had to store my suitcase in the bathtub - that's how small! If you wish to spend £200 for a room, there are many other better, larger options in Edinburgh.
Location is ideal and staff is very friendly. Service at the attached bar, however, is slow and inattentive. You might find yourself sitting alone with your empty glass for half an hour until someone even enters the room whom you can flag down for the bill.
We absolutely loved our 10-night stay at The George Hotel. The front desk staff and concierge were always so helpful. We especially want to give a shout out to David, who was our bellman and was often manning the door with a ready “Hello” and an interest in what we’d be doing each day. He brought our bags up on check-in, and gave us so many wonderful tips about the city and the nearby neighborhood. He got our stay off to a marvelous start. What a treasure he is!
The room was spacious, with a view of the city and the Firth of Forth that amazed us every day.
The restaurant was great for breakfast and dinner. And the manager closing up the Burr & Company coffee house was so helpful in providing me with utensils a local restaurant was unable to give me for a takeaway order.
The location is exceptional, and walkable to almost anywhere you want to go. We cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. We had a great stay!
wonderful facility. Staff were attentive and efficient. Roos were clean, modern, and attractive. We had junior suite which was larger than most rooms in Edinburgh. Club lounge was also comfortable.
Wot can really be said it was amazing place
The staff couldn’t do enough to make your stay a pleasure
The rooms were clean and well looked after
The hole hotel was so clean
If you needed anything for your room
Ask and it was there
Would say the bar in the evening was a bit busy and you had to keep asking for a drink
Breakfast was amazing plentiful and a great choice of food
Again a bit busy and had to ask a few times for our drinks
But again I can only say thank you
It was a great place
Very clean and friendly staff
Very thin walls
A favorite!!! We loved this hotel. The staff were incredibly helpful, the rooms were great (even had towel warmers), and being close to everything but just off by a touch was perfect. Would definitely stay here again. It has a great history too it as well. Close to Hop On/Hop Off too - super walkable.
Sowohl die Lage ist top, als auch das gesamte Hotel versprüht einen schönen alten Charme.
Frühstück ist ausgezeichnet
Einzig die Kopfkissen sind eine kleine Folter
When we arrived there was a problem with our booking. After half an hour it was finally sorted out. The Premium Twin Room had a view to the roof and an alley. Minibar empty, probably customers cannot afford.
There is no point in taking an option for a known brand because each hotel is a reality. Better decide for a recommended place.
L’emplacement , la classe
Rien d’extraordinaire non plus
Staff are friendly
Room are below expectation for breakfast have to wait it’s very crowded
Excellent breakfast, hotel has a great location, the main restaurant has great food
Insufficient number of food outlets, shower stalls too small, very few TV channels for news or sports
Good location
Room was on the small side
Location was great
Rooms are poorly designed and decorated without any souls
La posizione
La camera era molto piccola, squallida, buia. Non c’era possibilità di aprire la finestra (che era lercia) e dava in un cavedio. Non è assolutamente una camera di un hotel 5 stelle
We loved everything about this hotel. The staff was very kind. We all especially loved the doormen who greeted us daily as we came and went and were always amiable to taking a photo with us. :) David welcomed us to The George on our first day with a big smile and won us all over with his Scottish charm.
The hotel and all the rooms we stayed in were impeccably clean and sparkling. We couldn't have asked for better service. We especially loved the shortbreads and chocolate treats that were always waiting and restocked in our rooms every day!
The daily breakfast had a wide variety of foods and was delicious. Our youngest son stuffed himself to the gills every morning with pain au chocolate and croissants. The wait staff brought us endless coffee to get us going before our busy Edinburgh days.
We enjoyed one dinner at Le Petit Beef Bar and it was delicious. (although a bit of a splurge)
The George is convenient walking distance to just about everything. Lots of wonderful restaurants nearby and we especially enjoyed Amarone and Cafe Andaluz, both a short walk away.
Would highly recommend this hotel for your trip and would definitely visit again!
