Location is great, the staff is awesome and a very good breakfast. The downside is the noise (laundry truck at 5:30-6am) other room noise and the a/c. Hotel could use a refresh, dirty carpets/walls especially in halls and stairwells.
This was our fourth Christmas shopping trip to Edinburgh and another fantastic stay at the InterContinental.
From the moment we arrived, the festive atmosphere was exceptional. We were fortunate to receive an upgrade to a suite, and the hotel looked stunning with its Christmas decorations. The historic character of the building really comes into its own at this time of year, creating a traditional old-school Yuletide atmosphere that is increasingly hard to find.
The staff were excellent throughout our stay, as they have been on every visit, and breakfast in the Executive Lounge was a lovely way to start the day.
A highlight of the trip was our annual Christmas meal at The Dome, which never disappoints. Combined with the Christmas markets, festive lights and beautiful architecture, Edinburgh is simply magical at this time of year.
Perhaps I’m biased being from the North East, but for me Edinburgh is the best city in the UK for Christmas. After four festive visits and four excellent stays at the InterContinental, we’ll certainly be returning again.
Marvellous, hotel in beautiful George Street, which couldn’t be any more central for the sights of Edinburgh.
Special thanks to Chloe, who is an absolute gem and who can’t do enough for guests and visitors. She made our visit very special indeed.
Location. Near the centre of Edinburgh (about 10-15 min walk to old town, 5 min National Gallery
We had a cosy bedroom which was quite small, but was functional.
Hotel restaurant (which is Le Petit Beef Bar next door but-one, but accessible from hotel) is very expensive and not particularly good. Also suffers from echoes when pianist is playing. Would not recommend eating there, as there are plenty of restaurants & cafes locally for breakfast & dinner. The Burr & Co coffee shop, next door, which is accessible internally from the hotel is very good for a light breakfast.
Note: if arriving by car, it can be difficult to stop outside for dropping off / picking up as only a few spaces which are often occupied and are right by a busy bus stop. Can park briefly in the central reservation outside the hotel if a space is free (expensive charges apply- although free on Sunday morning) Main parking for the hotel is in a multistorey carpark under St Janes Shopping centre, about 8-10 min walk away (not suitable for walking to if you have heavy bags). The hotel offers a discount on parking fee
The location
There is a bad smell coming out of the vent.
There is no room available so they can’t transfer us .

Absolutely loved our stay here. We were so warmly welcomed by Boris who made our stay so memorable - always greeting us with the biggest smile, making us laugh, and going above and beyond (and out of his way) to make sure we had what we needed to make the best of our time here. Thank you for your incredible hospitality Boris!! We will certainly be back!
This hotel is on a VERY busy and noisy street in Edinburgh. If you come, you must ask for a room on the back side of the property to avoid throngs of people and street/traffic noise.
Do not let the pretty lobby fool you. We reserved "Premium" rooms, one with a king and one with 2 doubles. I do not believe that this is what we received( we were told on check in that our class of room had changed due to the hotel being very busy!) and if in fact it was, we would really hate to see what a "Standard" room looks like. In the King room, the AC was broken, there was only one feeble light in the bathroom, and there was no complementary mini bar as there was supposed to be. The rooms were like any regular 3 star spartan generic hotel, and the cost was hugely inflated due to the Edinburgh Marathon that same weekend. Much more than the price we had booked under. This alone would have made us walk right out the door at check -in, but the entire city was sold out and we were captive there.
There are many lovely hotels in Edinburgh. Don't make the mistake of staying in this one.
Really lovely hotel. Warm greetings from start to end of our trip. The hotel exceeded my expectations.
Lovely room , decent size with no noise at all. Hotel has a classy feel. The breakfast was excellent. Great choice from buffet. Or you can order special eggs . Really cant fault the place. Would definitely stay again
Visited Edinburgh on a business conference for 3 days. There is no parking at the hotel, however there is a drop off area and nearby NCP parking that was shown on arrival. Whilst the bar, restaurant and facilities are all very good, the staff are what make this hotel superb! The effort, courteousness and sense of humour is consistent throughout the entire hotel team and deserved of a great review!
This classic hotel is located in the heart of Edinburgh, convenient to the bus station as well as all the shops and restaurants on George Street and Prince Street. I booked the King Premium room which is spacious and quiet. The bathroom is nice but could do with more counter space. The breakfast buffet includes a made-to-order menu and the food from both are good. The front desk is very helpful. I have stayed here several times and would definitely stay here again.
Dismal room. Gap between door and jam so not soundproof. Noisy fan, thermostat not working. Manager would not change rooms
Amazing staff! Especially Boris and Jamie. They were always super helpful and ready to accommodate us with our requests.
Beautiful hotel, beautiful location.
We had an amazing time in Edinburgh :) Will definitely be back!
We had a glorious stay, enjoying the wonderful setting, central location, and superb teamwork across everyone on the management and staff team. We were particularly grateful to Hannah, her management colleagues and all her team for going out of their ways to be responsive to our needs. We also are grateful to Monika and the reception team for her efforts to support communication and coordination. From front door through helpful room staff, we enjoyed all of our interactions. Super high recommend !
We’d like to say a huge thank you to John and handsome David. They were always smiling, welcoming, friendly and very helpful.
They made our stay extra special. Seeing them when we left for our adventures and on our return was always a delight. Keep up the great work gents, Intercontinental, Edinburgh The George is very lucky to have you on their team. Five star customer service all the way ⭐️
Excellent hotel. Met all expectations nearby to everything . Beautiful rooms and the service is exceptional. Boris and John were especially pleasant and very helpful. Best hotel on the entire trip.
