The safe where very nice

Location

We were looking forward to trying the Fergus hotel as had our previous trip cancelled during lockdown. The location of the hotel was reasonable, we were aware it is in the club district and didn't at all mind. However for old couples and young families there isn't a lot to do directly outside the hotel if you aren't planning on going to the clubs.
The location of the beach is perfect there are two locked gates you open with your room card straight onto a vast golden sandy beach. We didn't use the beach as it was too windy during our stay but it is stunning.
The hotel is basic but clean, took a good 40 mins to check in no drinks offered which would have been a nice touch. The hotel lay out is good, apartment blocks surrounding the pool.

Rooms
We stayed in block 3 to the right of the pool. Our view overlooked the road and a taxi rank, which the taxi drivers used the bushes to urinate in as we saw on several occasions! Not the best view! Put me off using the balcony.
Rooms are clean but basic , air on and the safe were free to use.
There is no kettle, which I did miss. They supply you with one big bottle of water in the room for the week. There is a normal, basic shower over the bath but NO plugs for the sink or bath to stop people using excess water!
Hairdryer strangely positioned over the toilet.
Beds were ok if you like a very firm mattress and plenty of storage space. Incredibly noise during the night doors crashing and banging and furniture moving.
Staff were fixing a broken door handle in the room opposite early in the morning with drills which wasn't ideal. The hotel is located very close to the airport so plane noise is loud all through the day and night. We quite enjoyed watching the planes but bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper!

Food/ drink
The restaurant was large and we always found a table, may be tricky in busier months, it is the usual AI buffet style but a good choice and variation each day. Different meats, paellas, lots of different fish, vegetable and freshly cooked special dishes. Pastries galore and omelette/ egg station at breakfast which was excellent.
Desserts were amazing! Lots of choice and a great supply of breads, fruits.
Drinks are self service no table service which i would expect at a 4 star. Basically beer, wine, sangria and juices and a soft drink machine. Very watered down cocktails could be collected at the restaurant entrance, nice touch though.
The snack bar for food during the day is on the outside of the restaurant, very basic self serve hotdogs, chips and burgers with pastries. You aren't allowed to take food out of the restaurant / snack bar for some reason.
All in all pretty decent selection for even the fussiest of eaters.
Pool bar is open during the day, providing all unbranded drinks as part of the AI. Cocktails were very weak and pre mixed but ok, have had much better. We tried the outside lounge bar which isn't free and paid for 2 much better cocktails in comparison.
There isn't much under cover space when it rains as the indoor reception part gets jammed with people leaving you little choice but to go to your room.
Staff
Mostly polite and friendly, no complaints at all, didn't feel like many of them enjoyed their job, some were a little abrupt. I requested a price list at reception for the spa, got told there wasn't one and they didn't work Saturdays, didn't bother asking again!
All in all the hotel is a 3 star at best. Would I go back? Unlikely, I've been to much better hotels on my travels, it was a pleasant cheap break away though
