Disappointment and Unsafe
Pros:

I wish I were able to provide positive feedback regarding our recent stay at the property located at 350 Dodge St NE in Comstock Park, Michigan. Unfortunately, the level of service and the maintenance issues my wife and I experienced made this one of the most disappointing hotel stays we have had with Choice Hotels.

Our concerns began immediately upon check-in. The front desk associate was on her cell phone and wearing an earbud when we arrived. Although she repeatedly acknowledged us and stated that she would be with us in a moment, we waited approximately five minutes before receiving assistance. She indicated that she was speaking with reservations; however, based on the portion of the conversation we could hear, it appeared to be a personal call. Regardless of the nature of the call, leaving arriving guests waiting while engaged on a cell phone did not provide a professional first impression.

Later that evening, we attempted to leave our room to get ice and discovered that the deadbolt would not unlock. This was more than an inconvenience—it was a serious safety concern because we were literally unable to exit our room. We contacted the front desk, and the male associate who answered said they would look into the problem. No one came to our room to assist us.

After approximately 15 minutes of repeatedly attempting to release the deadbolt, I was finally able to get it to move, but only after striking the lock mechanism with a shoe multiple times. Had there been a fire or another emergency requiring us to leave the room immediately, the consequences could have been much more serious.

When I eventually left the room to get ice, I saw the male front desk associate at the far end of the hallway speaking with someone in another room about a lock issue. I informed him that he had gone to the wrong room and that I had finally managed to get our door unlocked. Once again, I was simply told that they would “look into it.” The deadbolt was never repaired during our stay.

On Friday afternoon, we encountered another maintenance problem when our toilet became clogged. We called the front desk and were again told that someone would look into it. After approximately 30 minutes with no assistance, I went to the front desk personally and asked whether someone was available to address the toilet. I also reminded the staff that the deadbolt issue had still not been corrected.

At that point, I was informed that the hotel’s handyman was on vacation and that no one else was available to handle maintenance issues. I find it extremely concerning that a hotel would apparently have no backup maintenance coverage, particularly when dealing with issues involving guest safety and basic necessities.

I was then offered a plunger and told that I could attempt to unclog the toilet myself. While I certainly understand that unexpected maintenance problems can occur, asking a paying guest to perform hotel maintenance because no staff member is available is not an acceptable customer-service solution.

I reluctantly accepted the plunger, and when the male front desk associate handed it to me, his response was simply, “Good luck.” That comment was particularly disappointing and seemed to reflect the overall lack of concern we experienced throughout our stay.

I used Choice Privileges points for this two-night stay, and based on the condition of the room, the unresolved safety issue, the lack of maintenance support, and the poor level of customer service, I believe using those points was a mistake.

Hotel is fine but management sucks
Pros:

The hotel is nice for a Choice property. All suites. Bed was comfortable. Property was clean.
Management is another story. Zero communication between housekeeping and maintenance related to upkeep and repairs. Several little things broken in the room. Housekeeping took my shirts accidentally left behind. Management couldn't find them and offered a weak apology. Miserable experience with management. I had called later in the day of check-out, asked them to save the shirts until my return 5 days later. No return call to confirm. 5 days later no one knew what I was talking about and the shirts were long gone. They had never been recovered. I suspect they had never even looked for them. the manager hid in the office, never spoke with me.

The property is for sale, and that makes sense. The current management company cannot actually manage the property. They need to get what they can for the property while it's still in good shape and redeploy that capital into something they understand better.

Anniversary get away
Pros:

We checked in went to r room, ate dinner went to go swimming which we couldn’t even due because of people on the entrance way and it was to cold to just jump in, then we went back to our room was hoping to soak in a hot bath which couldn’t do because they gave us a handicap room with no tub, so I decided I’ll just go to bed with my husband and all night long we herd stomping so at 5 am we decided to leave! Overall I wish I could redo the hole night but I refuse to spend money again to do something that prolly will disappoint me.

Not to shabby
Pros:

Price, fairly quiet, decent area, staff was nice, housekeeping was 🔥.

Cons:

Ran out of towels through the whole hotel. Never seen that before ever at any hotel. Hot tub was down for some reason maybe just maintenance but was a bummer.

Save the headache and book elsewhere!
Pros:

The location

Cons:

The front staff were rude and they charged me for my stay TWICE. When I showed them my bank statement they were adamant about it not being their fault because their system said they only charged me once. MY BANK STATEMENT said otherwise and they saw that! Now I'm in the process of disputing it.

No maid service for 4 days
Pros:

Not happy with no maid service. I even told the maid to clean it. Evening manager left a note on the managers desk. I told the morning manager to have it cleaned every morning and still no service. Breakfast was lacking. The evening manager was very friendly and helped me out with towels, trash bags, and toilet paper. I had to do the service myself.

will not be good back
Pros:

I just want to tell you about the my visit at comfort suites grand rapids north. This was the worst I have have been at. On Friday at 8:00pm when I got there they told me that my room will be cleaned in about hour and half due be short staff and that I was welcome to go another hotel. All the hotel in the area were booked out due to cheer weekend. I had all ready pay for the room and was told that I may not get my money back. At 9:15pm I was told it would be 15 to 20 minutes till my room was cleaned. Then at 10 pm I was told they give my room away because they were upgrade everyone because of the rooms not being ready. I was there told that I could have King suite there was 5 of us( 3 adults and 2 kids) or I could find another hotel, again every thing was full and that I may not get my money back. At 10:30pm they did give as two room only have a cause a screen. This also happen to a few another guest that night. Then the next day they coming in both rooms because they forget what rooms they give us. On Monday morning at food time they had a worker a cleaning cabinets with chemicals. The hotel it self looked to be felling apart holes in the wall all over the places. The bed mattress had red strain on them, things felling of the wall. Again it was not that easy to go to another hotel.

I would not recommend staying here. For almost $500 for two nights, I am very disappointed.
Pros:

The location is nice. Lobby looks up to date.

Cons:

I did not like how they did not mention a broken hot tub, the pool was freezing and the water was murky. Surrounding the pool is very dirty. Pool bathrooms were not stocked with paper towel or toilet paper. Staff will not bring anything up to your room. Room had multiple broken lights, missing curtains, bed was broken, pull out mattress was covered in stains. I got a room for 6 people and was only provided two towels. Breakfast was okay. eggs are very watery, juice machines did not work, no one came by to clean trash, so it was overflowing.
