We were disappointed that the heating didn't work and that the portable heater was not delivered.
Pros:

The location was good.

Cons:

The room was cold because a window had been left open. The radiator in the room did not work, we called Reception and followed their instructions, the lights came on but no heat. We were told that there was no Maintenance person available and they offered an additional quilt and portable heater. We asked for a heater but it was not delivered.

Friendly reception team, accessible room is very good for a wheelchair user.
Pros:

Overall the hotel is very good. Staff are friendly. If you have booked to play golf you would be in seventh heaven.

The accessible room worked really well for my disabled husband.

Cons:

The accessible bedroom is the first room, so everyone goes past it to get to their bedrooms and it is opposite the lift. We did experience a bit of disturbance with folks passing or waiting for the lift and talking.

Maybe some signage to remind folks they're entering the accommodation area, might help.

Breakfast was buffet style and okay, but could have been hotter, but I appreciate that's also tricky with a buffet style. Plus, for me, when you're getting two people's breakfast, my husband is in a wheelchair, I felt I was on a relay for hot drinks, juice and then food.

Fantastic lady on reception 11/9/2026 day shift.
Pros:

The lady on reception on Friday 11/9/2026 day shift was fantastic. Professional pleasant and uplifting. She managed to sort my wife and I a taxi/drop off in an area where it would appear there are no taxis. We thank her.

Cons:

Bathroom really needed a spruce up.

Pros:

Big rooms and clean

Cons:

Very poor breakfast, nothing left and rationed what was. Unaccommodating at Dinner even though the restaurant was empty. Slow bar service. Nowhere to get a drink between dinner and lunch.

Cheerful, professional service from all staff.
Excellent food in the restaurant which was beautifully presented and very good quality ingredients.
My husband says that the prawn cocktail was a perfect echo of the 1970s and rated the Caesar salad the best he has ever had !!
My chicken was succulent and definitely sourced for quality.

Cons:

Hairdryer not working and two replacements before one did work

Pros:

Vergane glorie. Prijs kwaliteit niet in verhouding.
Lounchebar gesloten, geen personeel voor. Afbladderende verf, verstopte toilet zodanig, dat we van kamer moesten wisselen.

Cons:

Alles, behalve de locatie. Als je aan komt rijden lijkt het heel wat, van dichtbij ouwe zooi. Duidelijk achterstallig onderhoud.
Prijs kwaliteit absoluut niet in verhouding.

1. Staff- They need to put the staff on a Hospitality 101 course. Unhelpful and disinterested particularly at breakfast.
2. Breakfast- Absolutely shocking. 18 pounds for shocking quality food. Greasy bacon, rude staff and awful setting. AVOID.

Very dated hotel but the staff made up for it.
Pros:

The hotel had a gym and the staff were really nice.

Cons:

The hotel is very dated and not well maintained, the first room they put us in was dusty and not made up. We had to ask to get moved to a different room. The other room was cleaner. There’s also no aircon in the rooms.

Dear General Manager,

I am writing to log a formal complaint and demand a full refund for our booking tonight at Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf & Spa.

My family and I arrived at your property today following an grueling 11-hour travel journey by boat and car from Ireland. The service and room condition we have received represent a severe failure of hospitality standards and a direct breach of the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, which legally requires services to be provided with "reasonable skill and care."

Specifically, we experienced the following severe failures:

3-Hour Check-In Delay: Our check-in was guaranteed for 3:00 PM. We arrived at 4:00 PM, but our room was not ready until 6:00 PM. This left my exhausted family stuck waiting for two hours.

Incorrect Room & Bed Configuration: We specifically booked a room for 2 adults and 1 child. Your front desk staff handed us the wrong room cards twice, eventually placing us in a room with only a standard double bed, which is entirely inadequate and unsafe for a family of three.

Loss of Paid Amenities: Because your staff delayed our check-in until 6:00 PM, we completely missed the designated children’s swimming pool hours. My child was denied the use of the facilities we paid for.

Severe Health and Biohazard Violation: Upon inspecting the bed, we discovered visible dirt and biological blood stains on the mattress underneath the sheet.

I brought these issues to the attention of the front desk tonight. The night staff informed me that no manager was on duty to authorize a refund or relocate us to an acceptable, hygienic room.

Please be explicitly clear: We are being forced to sleep in these unhygienic conditions tonight under protest. We have no alternative option as we are completely incapacitated by an 11-hour drive and are traveling with a young child late at night.
