Food was great! Stuff was very helpful. Location was very good.
The furniture is too old and the closet smells of mold. The fridge also has mold.
This was my first experience with Pestana, and I honestly could not have wished for a better introduction to the brand. I have stayed in many hotels over the years, and Pestana Royal is genuinely one of the most guest-focused and service-oriented hotels I have ever experienced.
The hotel itself is excellent: spacious grounds for Madeira, several swimming pools, a tennis court, comfortable rooms and very good food. I especially appreciated the relaxed dining schedule — even if you miss breakfast, brunch starts immediately afterwards, so there is almost always something available to eat. This is incredibly convenient when travelling with children.
But what made our stay truly special was the team. We often travel for our children’s birthdays, and I usually ask hotels if they can arrange a small surprise. Over the years, we have stayed in many very good and quite expensive hotels, but I can honestly say that I have never experienced this level of personal attention and responsiveness anywhere else. What Pestana Royal did for my daughter’s 5th birthday genuinely exceeded all my expectations.
They prepared balloons and a birthday cake, and the Guest Relations Manager even personally bought her a beautiful present. The cake, the gift and all these thoughtful birthday surprises were provided at no extra charge, which made the gesture even more touching and unexpected. I had never experienced anything like this from a hotel before. My daughter was absolutely delighted and played with her new doll throughout our entire stay.
Beautiful facilities matter, but what really makes a hotel memorable is its people. The team here made us feel genuinely cared for.

Karina que tornaram a nossa estadia ainda mais especial; Ao rececionista Henrique que nos acolheu com uma simpatia extrema; à animadora Diana que nos manteve ativos e entretidos; ao Sr. Diniz da restauração pela qualidade do serviço prestado; aos barman e bagageiros sempre disponíveis e de sorriso fácil; as camareiras que deixavam os quartos irrepreensiveis e todo os staff que contribuíram para uma estadia que dá vontade de regressar.
Não há nada que possa apontar, no entanto, deixo algumas sugestões que para um hotel de 5 estrelas, podem fazer sentido:
- buffet- podem apostar em mais variedade e comida local;
- animação- poderia terminar mais tarde (às 22h mal dá para terminar de jantar e aproveitar o show)
- amenities - incluir creme de corpo e acondicionador
La qualité du service, la gentillesse des personnes qui y travaillent.
O hotel é lindíssimo, apesar de estar a precisar de alguma manutenção, é muito tranquilo e os funcionários são fantásticos. A localização é ótima. Fica perto da praia formosa e de uma avenida junto ao mar com bares e junto a uma paragem de autocarro, tendo um autocarro gratuito duas vezes ao dia para o Funchal.
Muitos quartos têm casa de banho com porta, mas outros não, o que foi o caso do meu quarto. O quarto de banho é dividido do resto do quarto apenas por duas paredes de vidro, o que não dá privacidade nenhuma quando se usa a sanita, o que não me deixou nada à vontade. O colchão e as almofadas também poderiam ser melhores por uma questão de conforto.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. All very polite. The location was great for getting around to all major tourist areas. The rooms were comfortable and everything was all pretty easy.
The buffet restaurant was all very samey every night. The food there was good. But it was the same more or less most nights. A themed night would have been good. But there were two other restaurants to book into which honestly was needed to break up the reputation. The other thing would be the Tea and coffee didn’t get filled back up in the room nor the water. It wasn’t a huge issue as I bought my own bottle and filled it up elsewhere. But it’s handy to have water in your room. All trivial really but seemed odd in an all inclusive they didn’t refill these room items.

Má gestão . São desorganizados. Acordamos com eles um adiamento do nosso check in pelo telefone e falharam-nos no dia seguinte. Não assumem a responsabilidade do erro. Viajávamos com bebê de 7 meses e criança de 4 anos e deixaram-nos na rua. Só com muita insistência e ameaçando chamar a polícia, nos deram um quarto de hotel que era o da nossa reserva e que ficou cancelada por falta de compromisso da parte da recepção do hotel. Falei com o Diretor Miguel Medeiros e ainda foi pior. Não têm qualificações para o cargo e não sabe comunicar com pessoas.
