The location of the hotel was convenient to make it easy to navigate and walk around the city. The staff were friendly and helpful during my stay. My room was spacious and had an amazing view of the river. The rooftop bar was festive and also had an awesome view. We dined at the restaurant and our meal was superb. The hotel overall was a wonderful experience. It was more of a boutique hotel which made it more comfortable and enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel on your next visit to Lisbon!
We loved the hotel’s roof top bar and the food and breakfast was great. The junior suite was spacious, luxurious and impeccable. All the people we encountered working at the hotel were friendly, beyond helpful and extremely efficient.
We liked everything.
Have just stayed at this beautiful, perfectly located hotel. Yes, it’s pricey but so charming. The rooms are gorgeous and the bathrooms are perfect: spotless but not at all like those soulless ones in the bigger chains. The hotel, despite its central location, is superbly quiet inside. Loved having a proper key to leave at reception each time we left. The staff at the hotel are possibly the best I have encountered anywhere. We’re not great ones to use spas etc., but we did enjoy watching a world-cup game on the mezzanine floor - sadly, England lost, but a couple of Americans were thrilled with the Argentinian win, so that was fun to witness. The bar was open and the barman ever-present with new refreshments. Big shout out to ANDREIA and all of the breakfast crew. They, in particular, were just fabulous - knew us each day, knew how we like our coffees, knew which table we preferred and nothing was too much trouble for them. Also, hello to Henrique on reception, who checked us in and gave some excellent restaurant recommendations.

This was one of the most bizarre places I have ever stayed. The room was comfortable however the lights were out of the 19th century. There were 4 dials on each side of the bed and it took 8 or 9 try's each time to turn on a light. We never figured it out. One switch would turn everything off than you had to try every combination to get the lights back on. The worst was the only way to leave a light on in the bathroom at night was to turn all the lights off and then use your phone in the pitch black to go back to the Door, find the switch on the bottom and turn it on... what??! Let's call it quirky at best and very frstrating at worst. We did call and ask for help but let's be honest... when was the last time you had to ask more than once how to turn on a light in a hotel, let alone a 5 star hotel?
I loved this hotel, from the moment me and my wife walked in the staff was so friendly and helpful. The room was stunning with the most comfortable bed and great fully decked out bathroom! The food also was amazing, we ordered room service breakfast and it was delicious. Great hotel, amazing stay , amazing people, I definitely recommend this property to anyone staying in Lisbon !
I loved everything.
We stayed 3 nights at the Bairro Alto. Great location, wonderful restaurant and bar with an incredible view (best rooftop bar and restaurant!). We really enjoyed our stay but I do have 1 tip for AMEX platinum card holders. If you are expecting an upgrade on your room because you booked through Fine Hotel and Resorts, be wary during the high season. We had a nice room but it was really small. We thought we were going to get upgraded but they were at full capacity. I wished I had booked a larger room! Lesson learned. The staff was very nice and the best thing about the hotel is location, location, location!
There were a few hiccups. But the manager Rute Gouveia resolved them promptly and satisfactory. I am pleased. And I would love to stay with them again!
We had a fantastic stay. Booked a junior suite. The room was gigantic and very comfortable. Breakfast was wonderful on the roof and the view is olympian. It's a great neighborhood and the staff is very nice. Drinks up there are great too. The drinks were fantastic and the team on the roof in the evening was awesome.
One request. It was very hot this summer and the team all mentioned very nicely that they'd love a lighter jacket to wear during hot weather.
Hotel is in a great location to explore and enjoy Lisbon. Rooms were quiet and very comfortable. Rooftop Terrace breakfast was lovely and we also enjoyed dinner at this restaurant. Concierge gave excellent recommendations for other dining spots which were only a few minutes walk from the hotel.
Even before we arrived at the Bairro Alto Hotel(BA) I knew that the connection between the staff and the guest was special. Both the front desk/ registration staff and the concierge staff offered personalized service and advice. Many times hotel personnel offer perfunctory information. The BA staff researched questions I asked if they weren't certain of an answer. They were spot on with restaurant reservations. Their greetings were genuine and warm.
The hotel location as has been frequently repeated in other posts was so convenient. We were able to walk from the Alfama, Chiado, Bairro Alto and Principe Real sections of Lisbon without any problems. Yes it is a very hilly city but if you are in good walking shape(or go in to training before your trip) you should have no problems. Almost all of the restaurants we had dinner at were within a ten minute walk. Plus we felt very safe walking at night. The hotel is located on a very lovely square. Although it is a busy location the hotel is very sound proofed.
Physically, the hotel is beautiful architecturally both inside and out. The common areas are very boutique(ish). There is a fantastic coffee/pastry shop in the building. Although we did not dine in their fine dining restaurant it was posh and has a great reputation for gourmet meals.
We stayed in a deluxe junior suite. The room was very large and beautifully decorated. Both the bed and the furniture were very comfortable. The bathroom was also large and modern. There was both evening and daytime housekeeping service where the room was cleaned and there was turn down service. Not only was our suite beautifully cared for but the housekeepers would organize all of our shoes, pens, loose clothing. They were like your out of town mom.
I think the highlight of the hotel was the breakfast. Breakfast was served on a rooftop outdoor terrace. Physically the terrace was lovely. However, what made the venue so special was its gorgeous view of the river, the surrounding neighborhoods and the Christ statue(a twin of the Rio statue) across the river. We would enjoy the delicious a la carte breakfasts while chilling on the view of ferry boats plying the river and beautiful blue skies. As great as the aforementioned staff were the breakfast staff were, in my opinion the royalty of the hotel. Not only were they consummate professional but they were so friendly and warm. My hat's off to those wonderful people who made every morning so peaceful.
So I guess you can tell how much Sharon and I loved the hotel. We thank all of the staff for making our six night stay celebrating our 42d anniversary so memorable.
**** TIP Join the LEADING HOTELS OF THE WORLD of which BA is a participant. We received a significant discount on our room and some very special VIP gifts. We also received complementary round trip private transportation from the airport and then at the end of our stay to the airport car rental area.

There are 5 star hotels, and then there is 5+++ hotels like Bairro Alto! The staff is incredibly welcoming, warm and helpful. The room exceeded expectations like everything else. We booked a Double Prestige Tejo Room. It was very large with wonderful amenities including ample closet /storage space. The attention to detail is really what stood out during our visit - something very hard to find these days. And we loved the nightly surprises left in our room - including wine/cheese, one night "donuts" under glass - another night pastel de nata with port on another night and so on. Everything was so lovely. The rooms are immaculate and very comfortable. We slept very well on excellent mattresses/pillows. The staff works very hard I'm sure. The hotel is centrally located, but so peaceful once inside and in the room. Highly recommend this hotel. We'll be back! Enjoy Lisbon - it's fantastic!
