A gorgeous , stunning , comfortable , a friendly and welcoming hotel
Pros:

This is such a fabulous hotel , our student grandchildren ( from Leeds university ) loved it .Delicious food , delightful staff from the moment we checked in with delightful Sharon on reception , to the helpfulness of the Restaurent staff Lillian Rosie and Julia. .. and Ollie the maitre d’ whose warm welcome was so lovely . The Hotel atmosphere was warm and welcoming and we would definitely like to return .
The room was very clean and comfortable, the maids really helpful , but I could not use the lovely shower as there was nothing to hold onto, a couple of grab rails would be good .. for all hotel showers for many people with balance issues. The gardens and colourful flowers were beautiful.

Oulton Hall overnight stay
Pros:

We had a lovely overnight spa break at Oulton Hall Hotel and really enjoyed our stay. The overall experience was very good, from the beautiful surroundings and historic atmosphere of the hotel to the relaxing spa facilities.

It was the perfect opportunity to unwind and enjoy some quality time away. The room was comfortable, and the hotel had a lovely relaxing feel throughout. The spa was a great addition to the stay and made the overnight break feel extra special. The massage therapist Haleema was exceptionally great too as well as being warm and welcoming.

Overall, we had a really enjoyable experience and would definitely consider returning for another relaxing getaway.

Lovely hotel within a beautiful setting
Pros:

Rooms are basic but well maintained. Food was lovely, nice selection

Cons:

Due to the grandeur of the hotel i think there are little things like the wine glasses that can be improved as they are the cheap think stem glasses which makes the experience feel less special. Smaller details make the difference.

More than simply comfortable accommodation
Pros:

Oulton Hall offers more than simply comfortable accommodation. It contains a 19th century Victorian Mansion that offers much to see and appreciate, such as impressive grand staircase and high-ceiling reception hall. The grounds also provide pleasant walks that still reflect much of the landscape vision established over 200 years ago.

We had a pleasant one-night stay at the hotel while we took the opportunity to visit the nearby Wakefield Cathedral and Nostell House.

Well worth a visit, especially if you get a voucher deal!
Pros:

This was a voucher deal spa experience for myself and three friends. It included cream tea, £35 towards evening meal, 4 drinks vouchers each and late check out. A real bargain! The staff were lovely and so helpful, I can't really fault them at all. It was very relaxing sitting in the lounge area, the staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Our rooms were nice and clean and plenty big enough for a one night stay. I struggled with the evening meal as I don't eat meat and not a big fish lover and the pasta dish I chose had been slightly changed to include pumpkin, which I had never had, and don't think I will again! Although I wasn't keen on my meal, my friends seemed to really enjoy theirs. The dessert made up for it though, it was gorgeous. Because of the food allowance, I wasn't bothered that I hadn't enjoyed it all. I eat to live not live to eat! We then went in the bar to spend our vouchers! After Prosecco with the meal, we went on to gin and vodka and were pleasantly surprised to be served named drinks rather than the house stuff. We were served rather large gin glasses that take a bit of drinking so decided it might be better to have a double next time. This caused a problem as the young lady serving said she couldn't do this, something to do with mixers, but I didn't understand what the problem was as we would only be having one mixer with two gins? Anyway, we ended up not using all our vouchers as the bar closed quite early and then the four of us were the only people in the lounge! This is where my slight negative comments come in. I went to the ladies toilets, I didn't see any staff about at all. I felt very uncomfortable walking in as all the doors were closed and it was very quiet. Not a pleasant experience. I told my friends two should go together just to be safe! In the lounge a lot of the low windows were open and anybody could have climbed in - my imagination running wild again! My only other slight negative is the 'spa area'. It was quite busy in the pool with people with children and there seemed to be a lot of men going in the hot tub, one who's behaviour was very inappropriate and made us all feel uncomfortable. We didn't go in the sauna or steam rooms and we certainly didn't feel relaxed at all when we came out, so this wasn't quite what we expected of our 'spa break'.
Apart from these few small niggles, we had a really nice time and I would certainly recommend it, especially if you get a good voucher deal! We will definitely be back. One small suggestion, possibly more outside seating? We only saw two tables with a couple of seats and stools and they were taken. Did we just not look hard enough? 🤣

Couple spa stay
Pros:

We attended Oulton Hall on 2 August 2026 for a couples break and I wanted to share my honest feedback on the visit.

Firstly, the staff were outstanding. Everyone throughout the hotel, from the spa, restaurant, bar, reception and chamber maids were all lovely.

The hotel grounds, general ambience and decor had clearly been well thought out and had a touch of luxury. Top marks.

The room was poor, the bed was not comfy, I appreciate this is subjective, but I would question how long the mattress had been in situ. 1 pillow on the bed, incredibly old tv with no access to digital channels, Netflix, BBC Iplayer etc... (This shocked me, I thought that was just standard in 2026 in a nice hotel. It was also strangely noisy, so many random noises led to an awful sleep experience.

The restaurant was great, the food was highly enjoyable, fairly priced, but I had to wait an unacceptable time for a drink in the evening, following the order being taken it took over 10 minutes. My wifes drink came almost straight away, so it just felt a bit awkward as we usually do a little cheers with the first one.

The spa was perhaps the biggest let down, the pool was cold, it was over subscribed (queing to get into the sauna / steam room ), the chairs around the pool do not make for a relaxing experience and the clientele that were present at the time, a group of young males (6/7 of them ) who seemed to enjoy using profanity in every sentence. I appreciate the hotel are not responsible for other peoples actions, but it all led to a disappointing experience.

Lastly, my treatment, I had a 25 minute facial and noted on the form that I had oily skin. Whatever was applied to my skin only added to my already poor skin and 3 days later my skin is still in an awful condition. I didn't expect to get a facial and end up with worse skin than before, no discussion took place prior to the treatment (other than the completed form) I was expecting the expert to discuss this with me and it left me wondering if they were adequately qualified to discuss and advise on such matters. I could have altered the treatment to a massage if I had been made aware that the treatment may make my skin worse.

Overall, due to the sleep issues and the spa experience, I would find it difficult to recommend this hotel to anyone. Compared to other spa stays I have been on, this one was disappointing.

Disappointing Start and then Excellent
Pros:

On the whole, we had a lovely stay at this hotel - our 4th visit. The place itself is lovely and well kept, the food and the service excellent and all the staff so helpful and hard working. BUT the Check in is VERY POOR. When we last stayed in march 2025 we had to queue for about 40 minutes before we could check in and I was assured this was a one off occurrence, because everyone had by coincidence arrived together. Obviously it was not a one off because the same thing happened this time, and on talking to other guests, they complained about it as well. There are 4 positions at the front desk, so why are extra staff not available when there are a lot of people trying to check in. You just do not expect such a long delay at a hotel of this category and it is definitely the spoiler. It is a great pity and rather puts us off coming again. I could see that even the Receptionists who were doing their best were embarrassed and apologetic for the long wait standing in a queue with no seats or refreshments offered.
