Stayed here on a golf trip, 12 lads, we read the poor reviews prior to our visit and also spoke with the hotel direct. Given what we therefore expected, the place, food and staff were excellent. Despite the negative posts, you offer a great service at a exceptional price, yes there are far better places, but for the money, this place is excellent.
Thank you for being open and honest with us, if we golf here again, we would stay with you, without hesitation
Will be back!! Visited for a two night stay with my mother. To be honest we chose this hotel due to the price. Due to the low cost we matched our expectations to this and we were pleasantly surprised. Yes it is like stepping back in time to a childhood coach tour hotel.
The room was spacious, hot water, spotless and very nice small buffet breakfast. We didn't try evening meal so cannot comment.
Plenty staff and all very friendly and helpful.
From certain staff that were arrogant, the left hand didn’t know what the right hand was doing. Supposed to be 3pm check in to be told it was 3:15 then might be later.
Eventually got checked in, very tired hotel in complete need of refurbishment
Floorboards were constantly creaking and doors relentlessly banging, ceiling fan hanging off the ceiling, no toilet roll holder, water didn’t drain for a long time from shower tray, nearly overflowing, button for on off shower was missing, curtains were hanging off rails in bedroom.
As I said, terrible and please look at anything else but this hotel.
Only good thing was location, so that says it all.
I stayed 1st August 2026 for one night
Excellent location on the outskirts of town. Nice building with lots of character and charm, expansive grounds. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Overall outstanding value for money.
On approach this hotel looked promising, but it lacks so many things, so went downhill from there.
I wasnt the only one left disappointed, more in line with 2 star rating.
Rooms vary, bedding wasnt big enough for bed, bathroom needed update, poor shower and no shower gel.
Breakfast options were over cooked/kept warm and basic... cheap cereal options. No fresh fruit or pastries. Full fat milk or oat milk only options.
Staff polite but not very friendly or accommodating, had excuses and wouldnt provide anything unless you request in advance or when you book.
Lets start on a positive - breakfast lovely , thevgardens are pretty and the hotel has a lift. That's where the positive ends.
The rooms are shabby, the bathrooms are cramped, dinners were poor standard and follow up communication shocking
AVOID
ROOM 106.
This room should not be used by this hotel. It has a double bed in it, but no room for bedside tables. It has a basin behind the main door and a sliding door to a micro shower/toilet room. You can see the person on the toilet from the bed. See photos.
It is noisy. When other guests use their toilet you can hear it in our room. The downpipe outside our window leaks and water splashes against the wall.
The towel rail in the micro shower room is over the toilet. Unhygienic.
We asked to be moved and there was no alternative.
'It is what it is'
The hotel looks impressive from the outside, but inside needs refreshing; the bedroom we occupied was distinctly tired. The TV was one of the smallest I've encountered in a hotel room for many a year. The poorest part was the restaurant food, dinner being reminiscent of school meals. For 5 nights the 'fresh fruit salad' consisted of a few cubes of melon, and the service was more miss than hit.
I actually come from grantown on spey but moved away many years ago, I was disappointed with the room as it clearly needed decorating and the bathroom was old and tired, the size of the room was good, tea and coffee in short supply ok if you like decaf coffee but no normal type,2 nights the main course was only warm not hot, the first night too tired to complain but the second night i did, i was disappointed that as a scottish hotel in the highlands there was a lack of scottish staff, lastly my husband accidently left his shaver in room and 2it took nearly 3 weeksto receive it back despite ringing several times, paying over the phone to get it returned, not impressed with this. overall average stay, average room and average food.
Our room was average, a little tired. No net curtains in a huge ground floor bay window.
Good breakfast selection.
Four basic options for evening meal choice. No individual choice of food.
Bar good prices.
Lovely helpful staff.
Even without heat on the room was unbearably warm (30 d celsius), bathroom hotter. Not really possible to vent effectively because window did not fully open.
Mattress seemed worn since springs were felt through the overmattrass.
Cleaning seemed so and so since wall to wall carpets obviously had not been vacuumed for a while.
Restaurant food and breakfast good. They served not only englis breakfast an cereal, but also toast.
I loved it here. While my Daughter, Husband, and Granson stayed in a room at the front, I was in a single room at the back. My room was small and wasn't posh, but it had everything I needed, was clean and bed comfy. The food was good, staff were great. What I really loved was all the twisting corridors between rooms. It felt like I was in The Shining film. I had so much fun taking a video to show my friends and they agreed. I'll definitely and happily stay here again.
Thank you to all who work here x
Stayed for 2 nights on a motorbike tour with friends. The front lawn area is very nice and parking g for bikes was good.
Hotel was clean , rooms fine , food very good at breakfast, with very friendly staff .
Good value for money and I would return.
Not good drive way. Deep gravel to get to the hotel from our coach on the street. It’s impossible for wheelchair or walker users.
The rooms are very disorganized to find.
Shower was bad, while you shower other part of your body is cold, because the pressure is disappointing.
Staffs are nice trying their best to help.
Spent 2 nights here with Shearings coach tours, doing the NC 500. Without a doubt the worst/dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed in, and I’ve been backpacking in India.
We woke up early on Friday morning to start packing for our trip to Scotland, only to find a message from the Craiglynne Hotel informing us that they were cancelling our booking the next day.
Fortunately we found a local B&B as a replacement.
As we past the Craiglynne hotel on the day we were suppose to stay, there was a coach load of people arriving. However, I am sure the hotel didn’t cancel our one nights stay for another booking, but whatever the reason it was a very disappointing experience.
A glorified hostel. Room freezing, toilet leaking at base. Not disabled friendly. Not hoovered carpets throughout.
Castle image is hugely deceptive.
Microwave meals hence the limited menu. @£30 tiny portions .
Look elsewhere
We have just returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel. We were a little disappointed with our given room as we were up in the attic. Three years ago when we stayed here on the same deal we were allocated a front facing room which was very comfortable.
However, the room was adequate for us and comfortable enough. We did have a problem with the shower control as it was loose but the spray was good.
On our second night and last morning we had no hot water whatsoever so boiled the kettle to have a wash. If we had been staying longer, we would have reported this to reception straight away but didn't want any disruption at the time.
The food was excellent and nicely presented. There were plenty of chairs in the public lounge area.
All the staff were friendly, courteous and helpful.
We enjoyed our stay despite the few issues we had.
The hotel is in a excellent location for touring the Highlands; we were on a six day tour with Newmarket Holidays.
We had a lovely welcome and were allocated a cosy, quiet, recently refurbished, spotlessly clean room with a reasonably sized en suite. There were a couple of teething problems which were quickly sorted out.
We found the hotel staff very helpful and cheerful. Nothing was too much trouble at breakfast, poached eggs & porridge cooked to order in addition to the ample buffet.
At dinner there was a choice of 3 or 4 items for starters, mains and desserts, we all found something we liked and service was slick.
As a three star hotel we weren't expecting any 'amenities'. However the lounge sand bar were very comfortable and the garden would have been inviting in warmer weather. There was entertainment on two evenings and a Scottish Piper visited us during dinner one evening. Seems he played at Madonna's wedding.
Would we return to The Craiglynne Hotel - Yes we would.
When we booked to stay in this dog friendly hotel.
The communicstion seemed good.
The hotel contacted us directly to remind us of check in times and to bring our itison paperwork to hand over at check in
When we checked in I noticed a pre printed sheet of paper stating the kitchen was closed for refurbishment purposes.
I alerted the receptionist that the hotel had done themselves proud by communicating prior and wondered why they failed to alert us of this.
The hotel had just reopened having been closed for winter so i wonder why this refurb wouldnt have taken place then.
The room was clean and spacious but cold despite the additional stand alone heater.
The bar prices very very reasonable.
The breakfast was served promptly by a very friendly Gentleman. I pointed out that my cutlery was dirty and a clean set was brought over quickly.
The breakfast produce was ok.
We were informed the dog could stay in our room or theyd find somewhere for us to sit with her but we would be required to leave the hotel from the back door and re enter the reception to be taken to a place for us.... doesnt scream out DOG FRIENDLY TO US.... good job she is well behaved and likes the car because she spent both mornings in there.
Our 1st morning the chef seasoned the sausages and they were lovely, 2nd day not so nicely done.
The POWDERED SCRAMBLED EGG was just awful, most if not all plates were being returned with the egg untouched.
We enjoyed Grantown as a place to visit and if in the area we would opt to stay in the Garth Hotel as we enjoyed lovely food, drinks, service and ambience.
Unfortunately we wouldnt return to the Craiglynne Hotel.
