I paid for breakfast, but there was no buffet. I had to eat at IHOP, and eat selected from their menu. The room was small.
I'll start with the good - the location is great, and the bartender was amazing.
Okay moving on.
I am a very loyal Marriott member and this was by far the worst stay I've ever had at any of their properties. When I checked into my first room, I found it was full of gnats. There was a substantial hole in the seal on the balcony door, large enough for a small animal to crawl through, which presumably contributed to the amount of gnats inside. I went back down to the desk, and they moved me to a new room. Great! Well, the second room had a pile of what I think were crumbs on the desk. All of the bedding and one of the towels had gross stains on them. I noticed this at night, so I asked the front desk to replace my bedding the next day. They apologized, said yes, and even asked what time would be good. Wow! Great! Well. I told them 11 the next day while I was at the spa. They came at 5 while I was in the shower. I asked if they could come back in a few minutes and they said no because their shift was ending. I told them they needed to wait, as I had just stepped out of the shower. They gave me a couple minutes and I left the room to let them clean. When I came back to my room that night, I found that nothing was replaced. The bed was simply made up with the same exact stain riddled bedding. I actually couldn't believe that I had to sleep on dirty sheets for both nights of my stay.
When I was checking out less than an hour prior to the set checkout time I asked them to hold my bag because I was not leaving until that evening. They accused me of checking out early, which would have incurred a fee. Then they told me I could stay in the room until 7 for a small fee. I was going to agree, and was then told it would be an additional $125. I don't know in what world that is a "small fee"! I then asked for a bathroom key because I intended to still use the amenities that afternoon. I saw others do this, and other guests at the hotel told me that's something they do. The front desk agent said sure, but then didn't give me a key. When I asked again he said "oh, did you need it now? You can get it later when you come back." I figured I would get it right then in the morning because I knew when I came back it would be when new guests were checking in and there wasn't anyone else in line when I was checking out. I was right, and had to wait in the check in line again for 30 minutes just to get the key - which took the agent less than 10 seconds to hand to me. The entire experience at this hotel was like pulling teeth.
I also found it concerning that they stored everyone's bags out in the open in the lobby, not in a secure room. Some were by the desk, others were just left scattered around the lobby, which was very close to the entrance. When I came back to get my bag, I made sure to give them my claim code, but they did not hand me my bag - I had to grab it myself. They operated on an honor system. When I leave my bag with the hotel, I expect it to be safe from someone wandering in off the street and taking it. I couldn't believe how little they cared.
Another weird interaction was with the concierge. They called my room fairly early in the morning, which was annoying. I had only just woken up a few minutes before. When I go on vacation, I go to relax and catch up on rest, not to be woken up early by the concierge trying to sell me on things. When I went down for my (underwhelming) welcome gift, they tried to sell me on a vacation club - annoying sure, but not the point. The part that threw me off was the guy asked if I'm married or single back home, and when I said single he said "oh that's perfect" and then never explained what that had to do with the vacation club. Huh???
I had originally booked my stay at another property but switched to this one because it was cheap. I now know why. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money for a different property.
Everything was great and location was perfect!
Only three washing machines and three dryers. Two washing machines were out of order.
I had the most amazing time staying here - most importantly, I would like to acknowledge the manager Lorey for taking care of all my needs before arrival and during arrival. The location, service and amenities were perfect. If ever in need, I will for sure contact Lorey again before arrival as he did a great job of making sure I was accomodated.
I had such a great experience at the Courtyard Waikīkī, and a big part of that was thanks to Lorey. From the moment I arrived, he made me feel genuinely welcomed and taken care of. His professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail really stood out.
Lorey went above and beyond to make sure everything was smooth during my stay whether it was answering questions, giving helpful recommendations, or just checking in with a warm smile. It’s rare to come across someone who clearly takes so much pride in their work and truly cares about guests having a great experience.
If you’re staying here, you’re in amazing hands with Lorey. He’s a huge asset to the team, and I’d absolutely come back because of the service I received. Thank you again!

I would like to begin this review by absolutely RAVING about their Group Sales Manager, Maddie Kaya. Not only was she so helpful and knowledgeable, she put together a competitive package that served the needs of our whole group and made everyone joining happy to stay at this location. My group of over 14 people were all very happy with the location of the property itself, the quality of the rooms and grounds of the hotel, the easiness of checking into their part of the group block, and of course with the Lobby Bar and their staff. I would recommend any group leader to reach out to Maddie before making their decision on where to stay while visiting Waikiki/Honolulu.
I booked a queen studio with a balcony for one week at the Courtyard Marriott, and had a very comfortable stay. The room was on the 2nd floor and contained a frig, microwave, sink, and coffee maker, and had plenty of storage space. There's a nice coffee shop in the lobby that serves breakfast, lunch, and some baked goods. The location of the room was pretty noisy, at the corner of Kuhio and Lewers, but ear plugs helped. The hotel was centrally located in Waikiki, between Ala Moana and Diamond Head, which made walking to both areas convenient. I booked the room through TripAdvisor, which didn't include the $45/day 'destination fee' in the total price. This fee got added later which was a surprise to me. The hotel recommended booking directly with them in the future. I didn't spend much time in the room, but overall the Courtyard Marriott is a good value option for staying in Waikiki.
The room was very clean and modern, and the decor and design of the hotel gave a luxurious feel. The hotel is in a super walkable area with so many food options nearby. The pool was so fun, and the complimentary sunscreen, bike rentals, beach rentals, and GoPros were a great added touch.
Snorkel got stolen at the pool, bikes were a bit rusty from the rain, and there are no microwaves inside of the rooms.
We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott Waikiki and found it to be a great, affordable Marriott option in the Waikiki area. If you are looking for a comfortable stay in a fantastic location without the high price tag of many nearby resorts, this hotel is definitely worth considering.
One thing to note is parking. Valet parking is available but comes at a hefty price of $60+ per day. However, we found a convenient and much more affordable garage just two streets over, which made parking far more reasonable and easy to manage.
Our room was on the smaller side, but it was newly renovated, clean, and thoughtfully designed with everything we needed. The studio worked well for my partner and me, even though the bed itself was quite small. Despite facing the main road on the 6th floor, noise was minimal and never disruptive, which made for a comfortable and relaxing stay.
The lobby area was another highlight. It felt modern, welcoming, and full of useful amenities. There were entertainment and excursion booking options, free rentable beach equipment, filtered water stations, a souvenir shop, restaurants, and a nice pool area. These touches made it easy to plan activities and enjoy the hotel without needing to go far.
The location is fantastic. The hotel is within walking distance to many food spots, shops, and Waikiki attractions, which made exploring incredibly convenient.
Lastly, the service was excellent. The receptionist who helped us, a gentleman at the front desk, was especially kind and helpful. He made check in smooth and was friendly throughout our stay, which left a great first impression.
Overall, the Courtyard Marriott Waikiki offers great value, a convenient location, and comfortable accommodations. While the rooms are compact, the renovations, amenities, and service make it a solid and affordable Marriott choice in Waikiki.
Our family had a great experience from check-in to check-out. The entire staff was friendly, helpful, and accommodating! The rooms were clean with comfortable beds, and had all the essential amenities our family needed.
Food options were slightly limited on-property, but their team helped provide catering packages from Hard Rock Cafe for our large group, which was so helpful and convenient!!!!!
10/10 - Best Value & Location in Waikiki! Our new go-to property whenever we're on Oahu.
Five-Star Review for Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki Beach Exceptional Team from Top to Bottom
My recent stay at the Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki Beach was truly defined by the incredible people who make this property run. While the hotel itself is comfortable and inviting, it is the staff, from leadership to front-line team members, who elevate the guest experience to a level that deserves recognition. I am pleased to share my appreciation for a team that is not only well-trained but also genuinely committed to hospitality in its purest form.
A very special thank‑you to Maddie, Kody, and Heidy.
· Heidy Vicente (hdvicente@highgate.com ) demonstrated remarkable leadership and care, making the entire experience feel personal and seamless.
At the top of this outstanding team is Ms. Heidy Vicente, the Complex Director of Sales & Marketing. What stands out most about Ms. Vicente is her leadership style. She does not micromanage, and she does not need to. Instead, she leads by example in the truest sense. Her presence is calm, confident, and rooted in trust for her staff. This is the kind of leadership that inspires people to perform at their best because they are empowered, respected, and encouraged to take ownership of their roles. Ms. Vicente sets the tone for the culture here: warm, professional, proactive, and completely guest-focused.
Under her leadership, the team is not only efficient but also genuinely enthusiastic about their work. They move with confidence, communicate seamlessly, and consistently go above and beyond for their guests. This is not something that happens by accident; this is the result of strong leadership, thoughtful training, and a workplace built on respect.
· Maddie (Madeleine Kaya) MKayA@waikikicourtyard.com , went above and beyond with her gracious welcome and attention to detail.
I had the pleasure of interacting closely with Madeleine (Maddie) Kaya, the Sales Manager, whose professionalism and kindness immediately stood out. Maddie is thoughtful in her communication, attentive to details, and incredibly warm in her approach. She made me feel welcomed, valued, and taken care of from the moment we met. Her pride in her work shines through every conversation. It is rare to meet someone so genuine and so committed to ensuring each guest feels special, but Maddie embodies exactly that.
· Kody Dominguez kdominguez@highgate.com , delivered outstanding support and service throughout my stay, ensuring everything went smoothly.
Kody Dominguez, the Complex Conference Services Manager, was equally exceptional. Kody is highly organized, responsive, and sincerely invested in making sure my experience went smoothly. Whether it was follow-up communication or on-property support, he handled everything with professionalism and care. He is the type of team member who anticipates needs before they’re even spoken, something that sets excellent hospitality apart from average hospitality. Kody’s calm and helpful demeanor added an extra layer of comfort to my stay, and I truly appreciate his effort.
Beyond leadership and management, I also want to recognize the two young ladies at the front desk who checked me in. Their welcome set the tone for my entire stay, warm, cheerful, and genuinely hospitable. They were knowledgeable about the property, answered questions with confidence, and made sure that check-in was not only smooth but pleasant. Many hotels underestimate the importance of the first interaction a guest has upon arrival, but these two women truly exemplified what front desk hospitality should be. Their professionalism and friendly energy made an immediate impression, and they deserve to be acknowledged for it.
What I appreciate most about the staff here is that they work with heart. Everyone from leadership to front-line employees shares the same commitment to making guests feel comfortable, appreciated, and cared for. This is a team that takes pride in its work, and that pride shows in the smallest details. Whether it was assistance with a question, follow-up from a manager, or a simple greeting in the hallway, every interaction felt genuine.
The culture at this hotel is clearly shaped by respect, kindness, and empowerment. Ms. Vicente leads by example, and her team mirrors her values in every way. There is no sense of pressure or micromanagement, only confidence, collaboration, and a shared understanding of what great hospitality requires. This is a team that not only understands service but also elevates it, and that is something truly special.
Overall, my experience at the Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki Beach far exceeded expectations, thanks entirely to the incredible staff. They are polished, well-trained, and wholeheartedly committed to the guest experience. It is rare to find a team so aligned in purpose and attitude, and even rarer to find leadership as effective and inspiring as Ms. Vicente’s.
To the entire staff, thank you for making my stay memorable. Your professionalism, warmth, and dedication are the reasons this property shines. I look forward to returning, and I would confidently recommend this hotel to anyone seeking exceptional hospitality and an extraordinary team.
- Location is great. Close to beach, shops and main street
- Mattress was comfortable
- The bathroom was so small I could barely move inside.
- The shower is literally coffin-sized. It is not even 1 square meter and felt extremely claustrophobic.
- Room doors are very close to each other and make loud noise even when closed gently. I woke up several times because other guests kept opening and closing their doors.
- The room key worked randomly. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. I had to swipe it in different positions and directions at least 5-10 times before “getting it right”.
- Housekeeping is every other day, so during our 4-night stay we received only 2 sets of clean towels which is clearly not enough for a beachside hotel.
- We were locked out of the room exactly at 11:00 am and had to return to the front office at 11:15 to retrieve our belongings as if 11 am check-out and 4 pm check-in isn’t crazy enough.
The listing mentioned a balcony. In reality, it is about 10 cm wide and might as well not exist.
I have stayed at this property many times and had a pleasant stay. Not this time.
I was awakened from my nap by a call from someone who claimed to be a representative from Marriott (their first lie) who was actually a time-share salesman. H was extremely rude, and when I followed up with the manager I was told that he does not work for Marriott and there was nothing they could do.
I researched it, and the Courtyard literally sold me name and ROOM NUMBER to an outside company that they KNEW would use high-pressure tactics to sell me something. It is deeply, deeply disrespectful. I am an Ambassador Member at Bonvoy, which means I stay more than 100 nights a year at Marriotts and spend tens of thousands of dollars. I've never been treated so rudely.
Unless you can get the Courtyard to agree not to sell or give your name and room number to any outside companies, I recommend avoiding this property.
