Location, staff, food all lovely, rooms outdated, old and in need of update
Pros:

Character, style, location all good

Cons:

The rooms are very dated, the bed was awful, the base of bed creaked with every move, the mattress sinked. Poor bed and poor sleep.

Overnight stay
Pros:

Nice overnight stay. Ate in restaurant in the evening - nice food reasonably priced - very nice staff.

Had an exec room (?) which was big and nice bathroom. Decor a bit old fashioned but lovely massive bed. Very clean - lots of added touches, iron, ironing board, hairdryer, nice toiletries.

Lovely Oakland location , handy for Dumfries

Exceeded expectations
Pros:

Really impressed by the grounds and facilities. Would definitely stay again!

Cons:

Even though we'd booked dinner, bed and breakfast there weren't many times available in the restaurant. It would be helpful to know when booking that we needed to book a time in the restaurant.

Very mixed.
Pros:

Room size was good and the bathroom had a seperate bath and shower cubicle.
Paid £197 for one night stay which included breakfast and 3 course evening meal for two adults and one child.
Paying upfront for the evening meal was worth it because it worked out to £10, pp, where as the 3 course meal is £30pp if you turn up and pay the restaurant separately.
Katie, Mary and one other waitress in the restaurant were really nice (missed her name)
Damien on reception in the morning was pleasant.

Cons:

Lady on reception desk was a little miserable (name badge a little obscured so couldn't see it properly)

She was eating in the office when we arrived, told us that we needed to go for dinner right away (around 6pm) because at 7pm there were 2 coach loads of people arriving for dinner and it would be too busy. A little irritating because I called the day before to ask if booking was needed and was told no.

We went to dump our bags in our room and found it had only been set for 2 people.
Just the 2 towels and sofa bed not made up for our daughter. Not a problem as we were going for dinner. I told the reception staff who proceeded to tell me she would do it when she could, she was really busy because she was the only person working and was floating between reception and the restaurant as well as doing all the other things...
Not impressed with the attitude.

We had room 202 which is labeled as an executive room/suite but unfortunately is right next to the fire exit door and lift area. This means all you can hear is constant banging when people open and close the door both late in the evening (past 11pm) and well before 7am.

The food wasn't the best, but for what we paid it was ok. Kids meal was pretty beige.

Hugely different to the Chatham/Rochester Hotel we stayed in less than a week earlier. Being the same hotel chain, similar service was expected but this one didn't quite cut it sadly.
Room was really tired too and quite a bit of dust in places especially around the sofa bed.
