Pros:

Location: near to the tram line and 20 minute walk to the arena.
Lovely old building.

Cons:

Interior is a bit tired.
Mean with coffee/milk in the room, only enough for one cup each.

Staff tried to help but problem with power in our room spoiled the experience.

The room and beds were very comfortable. The staff were very polite and helpful. The staff tried to sort our problems.

Cons:

We lost lights and power in our room when we arrived and although the staff tried to fix it it was not sorted completely during our stay. We had power for about 30 mins when we arrived so informed staff. We went out and returned at 11.30pm, the lights stayed on for 5 mins then went out. We had to use the lights from our phones to use the bathroom and get into bed. We couldn’t have a hot drink or use the Tv either. Next morning we couldn’t have a hot drink in the room. We told staff and were given a refund for breakfast. But at breakfast there was very little hot food left and by then we were a bit fed up with everything and just accepted what was left. I think we should have more refunded for the standard we received which was disappointing and unacceptable. We were told that we could not be moved to another room as they were fully booked.

It was a little bit tired I understand that these old properties take a lot of upkeep and that’s expensive but there were a lot of cobwebs around

Great stay
Pros:

I like how they upgraded us as it was our wedding anniversary

Cons:

I didn’t like the breakfast as I went to do some toast and the bread was mouldy so then it put me and my wife off and we didn’t eat.

Charming hotel with helpful staff
Pros:

This is a charming hotel with very friendly and helpful team of staff.
Room was a nice size, with a comfy bed and plenty of storage space.
Good range of items for breakfast.
Conveniently located for event I was attending at the ICC (5-8 minutes by taxi).
JRR Tolkien stayed there on his wedding night!
This is the second time I've stayed there and I'd certainly stay again.

Cons:

Water pressure in the bathroom taps and shower was a bit low.
While breakfast was generally good, some of the cooked items had been stewing for a long time by the time I got to them (presumably less of an issue for early risers).
It's a bit of a maze and doesn't have lifts. Not a problem for me but if you have mobility problems it could be.
Slight smell of damp in places - the perils of an old building (however charming).

foto op website toont een charmant hotel maar kamers zitten eigenlijk in een zeer lelijk bijgebouw
Kamers zijn zeer gehorig, ik hoorde alles in de kamer ernaast: een trillende GSM, snurken, naar toilet gaan (niet doorspoelen maar geluiden van number 1 & 2)
Ontbijt was ongelooflijk minimalistisch
Bij het uitchecken hebben ze 5 minuten moeten zoeken naar de medewerker
En dit alles voor een zeer hoge prijs per nacht, nog nooit meegemaakt!

Amazing staff make this a real treat
