Great location, super staff, nice roof top
Pros:

Location is great. Rooms are nice, bathroom in the room I had was strange, no door where sink is and grass door for toilet and shower, very little privacy

My new favorite hotel
Pros:

I don't usually write reviews unless the service or experience was so bad that I want an opportunity to vent and warn others. But after visiting the Andaz in San Diego, I had to stop and take a moment to celebrate how AMAZING my experience was. From check-in, to time spent upstairs at the pool/lounge/restaurant, and the room itself -- I did not want to leave!!

I can easily say that this was my favorite hotel experience in the past 5+ years, and will be coming back ASAP.

One and only downside is that there is only valet parking, which is very expensive, but that's normal for San Diego downtown, so not going to knock off any stars or points for that at all.

1 night weekend mother's day/padres game stay
Pros:

My family and I had a terrific 1-night experience at the Andaz San Diego. As a globalist on an award stay, my valet parking and destination fee were comped, as was breakfast (for a family of four) at the rooftop. We were upgraded to a deluxe king room that smelled a bit musty but was otherwise great for our needs. We were worried about street noise because of prior reviews but we could barely hear anything from the hallways or street during our entire stay. The pool is small but the water was comfortably warm and perfect for wading. The afternoon wine/beer hour is a very nice touch! We were here for mother's day/padres game and will definitely be back.

Pros:

I really enjoyed my stay here. Everything was very organized and the place felt fancy without being over the top. The staff was very nice and helpful, and the valet service made everything easy and convenient. I also really liked the restaurant and rooftop bar — they were definitely highlights of the stay. Overall, a really great place and I’d stay again

Cons:

One thing I didn’t like was that even though dogs are allowed, there wasn’t really any designated dog area outside like most places usually have. It wasn’t a huge issue, just something that could make the stay more convenient for pet owners. I also noticed that the room I booked online wasn’t exactly the same as the one I received at check-in, but the room was still very comfortable and overall I still enjoyed my stay

Clean and comfortable
Pros:

Great hotel! Comfortable and clean, walking distance to a lot of places near Gas Lamp. Breakfast was great! Just beware of the homeless encampment next door. Lots of folks sleeping in tents.

Beautiful hotel, rough downtown area. The rooftop area is really nice - the pool is warm and it is a comfortable area. My room was spacious and clean.

Great staff but complicated shower!
Pros:

Great recent stay at Andaz San Diego. The staff were outstanding throughout, especially Angie Silva who went above and beyond to help with a matter during my stay.

The location is very central in the Gaslamp area, which is ideal for getting around but does mean it can be quite loud late at night, particularly on Fridays and Saturdays.

Also a small confession: apparently one PhD is not sufficient to operate the rather complicated shower.

Overall a really positive stay and I would happily return.

Not like other Andaz properties
Pros:

When you've stayed at other Andaz properties, you hold it to a very high standard. This hotel did not meet that. It was just... OK. Andaz prices on things like drinks, bottles of water in the room ($9). Room was clean. The staff was nice. You definitely hear the city. Would we stay again at THIS location? Probably not. It's more about us having high expectations for Andaz and this was not it.

Do Not Pay Ahead of Time - In fact - Skip Altogether
Pros:

I paid for a three night stay and booked an Andaz Suite. When I checked in, I was given a normal king room. I was never told that I was downgraded. It was only afterwards did I go back to the lobby and asked about my room situation. I was informed that all Andaz Suites were sold out for the duration of my stay.

I was offered $50 a day and 10,000 points as compensation, but the problem is I would never have picked the property had I known I was just getting a normal king room.

Two other problems: they took my money ahead of time, and I was somehow the first one to be downgraded; and why did I have to inquire about my room status? They should have told me that they did not have my room ahead of time.

Great Downtown Hotel
Pros:

This is an ideal location in Downtown San Diego. I had no idea such a nice hotel was so close. The room was amazing and the bathtub was such a bonus. The room was clean, smelled great and had an amazing view of the city. My husband had a little staycation a few hours from home and this is definitely a spot we will return to.

beyond—welcoming, attentive, and made me feel at home.
Pros:

From the moment I arrived at Andaz San Diego, I felt genuinely welcomed and taken care of. Angie at the front desk set the tone right away—warm, attentive, and effortlessly professional. She made check-in feel less like a transaction and more like arriving somewhere I already belonged.

Up at the STK rooftop, Vanessa elevated the experience even further. Her attention to detail, friendly energy, and ability to anticipate needs made the entire evening feel seamless and special. It’s rare to come across service that feels both polished and personal, but she absolutely delivered.

Together, Angie and Vanessa turned what could have been just another hotel stay into something memorable. They went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable, and more importantly, at home. I’ll definitely be back—and I’ll be recommending this place to anyone looking for an exceptional stay in San Diego.

Very nice for a couple getaways
Pros:

Staff is friendly and great atmosphere. The shower windows need to be cleaned to get the windows clear and maybe fog resistant so you enjoy the full experience. But other than that great staycation spot close to everything including parking lots if you don’t want to do valet. But valet was super nice. You do carry your own bags because valet is a separate company but they help load carts and it wasn’t really problematic. Overall would stay again.
