Clean, nice location, good breakfast area. Newly renovated bathroom, with TV in mirrors!
Tub was a little high getting in and out. That can be a safety issue.
The beach area is lovely
Old tired common areas… main lounge looks worn and dirty… staff often barely spoke, o greeting, seemed indifferent.
For $499 a night, no where near up to par..
Great location for exploring view of the bay beautiful for both sunrise and sunset. Nice chairs outside for lounging by the pools and beach. Beautiful property kept well on the outside. Breakfast was adequate but not changing daily. Room was clean and plenty of room for suitcases and sitting. Balcony was wonderful to have to listen to the water at night.
While room was sufficient the door was difficult to open and close. The property could use a freshen up paint throughout and common areas particularly. The linen in the bedroom needs to be more substantial. It was thin and a bit aged. We wanted to use paddle boards which we thought were available but nobody at the shed where they were stored. Coffee bar not very good quality with paper cups and insufficient cream offering.
We paid a substantial price for the two weekend nights and expected more amenities for the price.
Gorgeous grounds, nice staff, views and outdoor amenities. Along with 2 pools.
Broken locks in room, beds hard as a rock, cobwebs all over balcony. Just rundown for $450+ per night.
Property didn’t live up to our expectations, eager the price
Little room amenities for a high price
I like the beachfront view.
Our room was not clean. The sheets for the sofa bed did not look like it’s been washed since the last guests. The bed sheets were stained with clumps of red stuff. The staff was not friendly at all.
All was good. It’s a small thing but we really liked that there were plenty of towel racks in the bathroom. The shuttle into town was very handy. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Difficult and a bit scary getting in and out of the tub/shower. Hand holds and a non-slip bath mat inside the tub would be great. The door from the stairs into the fourth floor hallway sticks; we had to use the elevator.
Great stay with both an indoor and outdoor pool plus a wonderful beach. The breakfast and Laura are five stars. Every employee was helpful and friendly. Wonderful place to stay for families, as well. Cherry Tree Inn is an excellent place to stay while visiting Traverse City and the surrounding area!
Close to restaurants and down town
Next to an intersection and hard to get in and out on the busy highway. Room was clean but seemed tired and in need of upgrade renovations.
Breakfast was just so, so and not enough seating for as many people are there .
Walked in the front door and ice was
Spilled all over the entry and no one made an attempt to clean it up.
The place was clean and happy! The beach is perfect. We were placed in a room that shared a wall with the indoor pool. This was NOT ideal. Guests are allowed to stay in the pool until midnight. It is not the fault of the guests that it was very loud, as our room window looked into the pool area and their voices echoed with clarity into our room. The biggest issue was the door to the pool and how it slammed with each closing, leaving us jumping each time with the noise and watching the wall shake. I was asked, in an email, about my stay and shared this, with no response. The place is lovely; just ask for a different room if you're placed in a room that shares a wall with the pool on the 1st floor. You will not sleep until midnight, and you will wake up to the kids in the pool the next AM, if you like to sleep in.
It was mediocre at best. Outdated rooms that aren’t very clean. Front desk help is available sometimes. Doors slamming all hours of the night, not to mention road noise. Outdoor pool was closed our entire stay. We moved to GWL. For a better price, the rooms were so much better!!!!
Whie the location was great, the hotel was dated in its upkeep and overall furnishings. Our room was not serviced until after 4:00pm each day, and one day we had to call the front desk to assure that it got done. It should also be noted that our stay was during a peak local holiday event, but considering the exorbinant room rate that we paid, the value that we received was poor to fair at best.
The location is obviously a plus. However, that's probably the only pro.
The beds were a 0/10 for comfortability. I truly don't know if I have slept in more uncomfortable beds. The facility itself feels very outdated as well, especially when you're paying $370 per night. The beach was clean but could have also been kept up in better condition. Overall, I don't think it's worth the asking price.
The bad experience we had started at check in when the young desk clerk was busy gently chiding some children in bathing suits. The welcome cookies were gone and our room was not ready even when arriving two hours after check-in time. Toys were spread out over the sitting room and there was water on the floor from bathing suits and empty cups on the hallway tables. It felt chaotic not calming. We also learned that housekeeping was optional and one needed to sign up for it which we promptly did at check-in. The clerk explained that the housekeepers were very busy and that is why our room was not ready, It was soon available but I didn't need to hear the excuses. We heard the same song the next morning when we asked if we could have housekeeping early (not until the rooms of departing guests are done). Customer service training not much apparent. A simple apology at check in and perhaps the offer of a complimentary beverage would have been better.
Bad on me for not reading the fine print. Despite being situated on the bay with great views our room-the largest in the facility, a two room suite, did not overlook the lake but did overlook a large AC unit outside the primary bedroom with the other bedroom overlooking the garbage area. The living unit overlooked the busy highway-fifty feet away.
The beach is very nice but there were no tables with the lounge chairs and the towels are miniscule while the room towels were wonderful.
The worst part of our experience was with a beach vendor on the property who took our credit card but forgot to reserve the off-site jetskis. So we did get a new reservation for two hours later. He directed us to walk up the beach five minutes and indeed we saw some jetskis up ahead. But it was in fact a hot ten minute walk for a 75 year old and two young children aged 4 and 6. Alas, when we arrived at the jet-skis there was no attendant and the young man at beach hut did not answer his phone. So walking back I was steamed and said, "what the hell is going on?" Mumbling and fumbling with the phone ensured and it turned out that the real jet-skis were a half mile away and the best way was the sidewalk or your car as the beach had a vegetative protrusion that forced one out into the lake to get to the jet-skis. Would have been good to know.
Confronting the manager about our bad experiences finally exposed us to an adult who was trained in customer service but she was all cheerful politeness but limited problem solving skills. She promised to call the vendor who was a "good guy" and that our room could be done the next day at 9:00 am. Never heard back from her or the vendor and we discovered the next day that our name was not on the list to be cleaned despite me hearing the manager tell a colleague to "put us down." We called the vendor and he wasn't much help and noted we had used profanity, which I had but only as noted above. He did offer to rent at a reduced rate the next day and grudgingly wrote "sorry for the hassle" when we re-booked. Alas, rain the next day so no jet-skis. We were too late the night before to go to the cherry festival due to the forgotten reservation and unavailable jet-skis but we did get to the festival the next day-in the rain. We wasted a sunny afternoon on this mis-hap.
This property is the poor sister of a string of resorts on this bay so maybe try something else as I should have. This is perhaps a lesson in "you get what you pay for" so if you're more tolerant than I am and are looking for a bargain this might be for you. But for us $600 a day for a two room suite with the problems we encountered it was just not a good value.
