The setting was excellent
Nothing
The location, the character of the hotel, the service, the food, the incredibly attentive staff...
Being of an age when joints are very creaky the lack of a lift was a little challenging.
The location is beautiful
The room was a bit old and the restaurants should open a bit earlier for lunch or at least the room service should start earlier than 12,00. We struggled with the timing of lunch and dinner for our little one.
Also it would be nice to have a play area for kids outside even just a swing or a slide.
Staff were excellent. Location is wonderful. Food in the Forest Brasserie where we ate was excellent, as were the staff. Parking was easy and plentiful.
Our room (no 48) was located as far from reception as it was possible to be, up numerous flights of stairs (no lift). Not great when you're in your 70's. It seemed unnecessary to be put there when the hotel was extremely quiet. The shower was extremely small and made showering very difficult due to a lowered roof in part.
The hotel was very very quiet with very few apparent guests. That of itself is not a criticism but a little background music would have added some atmosphere to the lounge (and the bar, where we were told the sound system was not working).
An incredible building with lots to explore in and around the property, and some great facilities.
The staff are wonderful, very attentive and happy to help.
Breakfast is amazing, we had everything we wanted at breakfast.
Room was very clean, comfortable and tidy but the decoration little tired.
We had drinks at the cocktail bar but thought £23.01 for a pint of lager and a G&T was rather on the steep side.
However, we had a lovely couple of nights.
Bar prices should be easier to see
Fantastic location with the Ashdown Forest Centre opposite. Very pleasant grounds. Excellent choice with the meals. Helpful staff.
Nothing negative to mention.
Stunning period property with outstanding views.
Excellent breakfast
Small double bed although we did have a large bathroom!
Excellent all round
Nothing
It was such hot weather and my room was far too hot. (Right at the top and the curtains had been left open before I arrived so all surfaces were radiating heat). The dining room windows weren’t open to allow a breeze through until the third day of my stay
The grounds where fantastic
Our room was up three flights of stairs and no lift
Check it was a nightmare we couldn’t check in till 5pm as it was so busy
Appreciate it was a bank holiday and every busy but more bar staff were needed
Location is amazing, beautiful gardens, surrounded with forest.
There is no air conditioning except in the most expensive rooms, which makes it impossible to stay there in hot weather. The fan provided does not really help.
The suite with air conditioning had an unpleasant smell — possibly pet urine, as these suites seem to be intended for guests travelling with dogs. The large bed was actually made up of two smaller beds pushed together, and the gap between them became wider during the night. The carpet also had visible stains.
We have stayed there for 3 times now - perfect location
The room we have booked and asked for didn’t specify our request - we have asked for garden view instead we had a west wing with a tree view and the room was stale - we have asked the reception for change and she said they had no space as having an extra 2 weddings on so no chance on the room changed, when asked for room air fresheners we were told that room service will provide - we have waited till early am - didn’t happened - the room was like a sauna and were told that should be fans - again didn’t happened - ( felt like going to sleep in the car in some point) very disappointed- also jacuzzi is in need of tlc - there were little tiles fallen off laying next to jacuzzi - please sort it! Swimming pool was full of kids and some had peed next to it - shame to parents still - loosing it’s touch - very disappointing as travelling over 2 hours and won’t be going back sadly
Beautiful setting
Tatty - needs a refurb and update
The manager unprofessional lose sense of attitude
Location, and hysterical building
