Plaza Grande Hotel

Located on Plaza Grande, this historic hotel is hard to beat for centrality in Quito’s old town. With only a relatively small number of rooms, breakfast is à la carte rather than buffet-style, which may be understandable, but I found the menu quite disappointing. Almost every option was built around meat, while the few non-meat possibilities seemed to exist more by omission than design. It was not even possible to order a vegetable omelette, or something simple with mushrooms, and the fruit selection was underwhelming—especially after I had just spent nearly a week at a considerably nicer and more accommodating hotel elsewhere in Quito. That said, the hotel does offer some luxury touches, including a jacuzzi in the bathroom and a complimentary bottle of Ecuadorian wine on arrival.

There are hotels that provide accommodation, and then there are hotels that create unforgettable experiences. Grand Plaza Quito belongs to the second category.

During my 7-day stay in Ecuador, I returned to this hotel three separate times. In fact, I wanted to spend another night here before my final departure, but unfortunately they were fully booked, so I had to stay elsewhere nearby. That alone says everything about how much I loved this place.

Every single member of the team made me feel genuinely welcome. They arranged an early check-in at 10:00 AM after a long journey and even upgraded my room as a thoughtful gesture because they couldn't accommodate me the previous night. That level of care is incredibly rare.

Their concierge service was simply outstanding. They collected my luggage, arranged comfortable and professional airport transfers, and even when my private guide was waiting just 20 meters from the hotel, they still sent a concierge to personally walk me over. These are the small details that transform excellent service into exceptional hospitality.

On my departure day, I left very early and couldn't make breakfast. Without me even asking, they prepared a beautiful breakfast box for me to take to the airport. Once again, they thought of everything before I did.

I have stayed in many hotels across Europe and around the world, from boutique properties to luxury hotels, and I can honestly say that Grand Plaza Quito delivered the finest hospitality I have ever experienced.

If I could give this hotel a score, it wouldn't be 10 out of 10.

Hotel Plaza Grande was a beautiful boutique hotel in the perfect location, steps from the Presidential Palace and at the heart of the Colonial downtown. The staff was super friendly and the room was well-appointed, with every detail meticulously curated. Their attention to detail surpassed our expectations! We could not have asked for a better stay for our family.

We stayed at the Plaza Grande for two nights before heading to the Galapagos for a week. The hotel was great - classical architecture and excellent location in the old town of Quito with large comfortable rooms and excellent service. Highly recommend

From the very beginning, Karina Fabara was incredibly professional, kind, and attentive, helping me coordinate everything flawlessly, even though I planned the event on such short notice. Our experience at Hotel Plaza Grande extended beyond the welcome party. My husband and I truly felt cared for during our stay. Our room was always immaculate, and we were deeply touched when the team surprised us with a heartfelt congratulatory letter and chocolate covered strawberries for our upcoming wedding.

Great location, helpful and professional staff

Amazing experience staying at hotel plaza grande. We were there for 3 nights and got upgraded to the Presidential Suite which was pretty awesome. The location, service and amenities at this hotel just can’t be beat. You are right on the Plaza with a direct view of the palace including all the ceremonies which can be seen from your balcony. The restaurant had some incredible local dishes and is very highly rated and the staff were so welcoming for our first trip to Ecuador. Highly recommend!!

I had a tremendous stay at this Hotel. The service was impeccable. The Bellhop and concierge was awesome. David the bellman provided great service. The attention to detail and concern for your well being was top notch. The Restaurant team was excellent as well Sebation provided great service. All the restaurant staff was great. I can not say enough about the treatment at this Hotel.

An incredible welcome after a 12 hour travel day. Every staff member is helpful and friendly. Lovely breakfast included. We stayed in the Presidential Suite with three balconies on the Square - a special experience.

This hotel has everything: location, colonial charm, views, the most attentive and friendly staff (particularly Vinicio and Alexander), a level of service that goes way beyond the average and opulent rooms and amenities. I can't recommend this hotel highly enough. Pure class in Quito.

The Plaza grande hotel is in an ideal location to visit the historic center of Quito. It is a beautiful hotel with an amazing staff.Mauricio, Alexander, and everyone we encountered were kind, friendly, and very helpful. They helped us with tour guides, Restaurant reservations, and more, making our trip easier and more fun. Our meals at the Plaza grande Café and La Vid restaurant next-door were outstanding. If we are lucky enough to return to Quito, we will stay at the Plaza Grande!
