Nice hotel, nice staff — all overshadowed by a cynical price hike to over €400 all in.

Cons:

The headline rate was €355 for a single night, and that didn't include breakfast or parking. Once those "little" extras went on, it cleared €400. Very disappointing for what is, in fact, a four-star hotel.

I understand prices fluctuate with demand. But the gap between this "Superior" room on a normal night and on the recent weekend of a concert at the nearby stadium looked rather opportunistic. I don't know how their pricing algorithm works, but it really did seem like a case of "what can we charge and still sell them all?" Tellingly, they still had unsold rooms at that price on the day.

From a guest's perspective, it looked like a straightforward chance for The Strand, Limerick to profit from a concert in the city — which, I'm sad to say, they didn't resist. Would recommend at the normal price, but uncomfortable with their pricing strategy.

The hotel itself is fine: helpful staff, good facilities, no complaints there. But if I'm being asked to pay five-star prices for one night, that would be a fair request from a five-star hotel.

Pros:

Lovely hotel, great location. As with everywhere, you need relatively deep pockets to stay here.

One gripe... we booked room only as breakfast was priced at €19. On checking in, we were again asked if we wanted to include breakfast at €19... we again said no... then were offered "discount vouchers" for a breakfast priced at €14.50. If it was that price straight up, we'd have booked it at the outset...
It felt a bit shyster-y.
Having said that... the breakfast was definitely worth....€14.50.
