Paying luxury price for luxury location, not for a luxury room or amenities.
Pros:

Obviously the location is great for walking to the beach, Stanley Park etc. Not convenient for access to light rail but that’s the trade off. The charm of a heritage property with rich history is also nice.

Cons:

Other than the location, the stay was pretty bare bones for amenities and/or luxury. For the price per night we had a view of the brick wall behind us and basic sleeping/living space. No complaints but no ‘wow’ factor either inside our room. For the price I would have expected nicer linens & blanket. Our TV remote didn’t really work and for a 3 person booking in a 3 bed room we only got 2 sets of towels, glasses, etc.

Perfect position to access the best of what Vancouver has to offer.
Pros:

A lovely hotel which has been looked after very well. A lot of character, exactly as expected. Loved it's position by the water, close to restaurants and bus service to everywhere. The restaurant in the hotel is lovely.

Imagine .....No AC.
Pros:

We had an excellent stay. The location is amazing....best in the city. Had a drink in the bar downstairs while listening to live music and watching the sunset, it was a perfect evening.

Cons:

It was a little noisy but I don;t think that can be helped, it"s a busy city. The problem is that there is no AC so you have to have the windows wide open. It was only May and we roasted. Imagine a hot day in August. I did not expect a hotel not to have AC. Big downfall that will keep us from going again.

Great Stay
Pros:

Enjoyed our stay as usual. Had a meal in the restaurant, delicious and the view was fantastic. We got into a situation where we needed help from the staff that was above & beyond what is expected and they were happy to help. I don’t believe a chain hotel would’ve been as helpful. It’s a unique experience to stay here, a historic landmark for sure.

Wonderful
Pros:

Loved the rooms: spacious, quiet, comfortable beds. Great location for walks along the water or in the residential areas of the west end. The hotel restaurant provides great views of English Bay. Had breakfast there which was okay. All in all a very pleasant place to stay.

lucky me staying at The Sylvia!
Pros:

Always love the Sylvia Hotel and its location. I got the last room in the hotel and all my windows revealed a beautiful flowering cherry tree in full bloom outside. One of the best things is that every room has a bath as I dislike showers! I can go across the road for a swim, and feel comfortable going out at night solo to eat at one of the many restaurants. The only thing I didn't like was the hollandaise sauce on the eggs benedict for breakfast.

Historic Hotel
Pros:

Historic hotel worth a visit. Food in the restaurant is good and we had an excellent server. Beach across from the hotel was very busy with people when we visited; maybe college students finishing classes. A bit of street noise but ok later. No air so we opened the windows wider. Given all of the high rise building in Vancouver, not many of these hotels left.
