Perfect
Changing bar menu
Very homely and comfortable
Everything was fantastic maybe some more internal common areas
Great location
We paid for a deluxe king room and were only given a standard king room. I advised a staff member at reception but she offered no solution or compensation for paying extra as I’d booked through booking.com
Basically suggested I should have booked direct.
Great location
The rooms were average
The main restaurant/reception area was cosy and beautifully decorated. The open fire places created a relaxing ambience. The breakfast was delicious. The bedding and mattress both really nice quality
The size of the room was on the small size but it was beautifully decorated and the view was lovely but the size of the bathroom was frustratingly small. You could hardly move in there. Small shower and the bathroom amenities had to be put into a cupboard in the bedroom area because there was no room in the bathroom. No bath and a tiny shower left the bathroom feeling less than luxurious.
It's a beautiful property in a lovely quiet location away from the main road. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, including the cleaning staff which is a sure sign of great training and happy working conditions for them. Our room was very small and perhaps not quite worth the price paid, however it did not detract from the overall experience. The breakfast was first class, the mix of buffet and al la carte options was so well done. We also had a delicious dinner our first evening, the property rightly showcases lovely regional wines, with lots of local delicious produce, just excellent.
On our second evening after a long lunch at a winery we just wanted a drink and something simple, this was only possible in the bar area or adjoining lounge. It had become quite cool/cold, the bar area was very cold so we moved to the adjoining lounge where it was also cold and quite strange to sit in a lounge with a fabulous fireplace and no fire.
In the end I had to ask for the heating to be turned on as I was already using the provided blanket as were a couple of others. When our food arrived we had to steal small side tables from other seats to actually eat on, or we would have had to move back to the freezing bar area or eat on our laps. This whole experience made our second evening feel like the "polar" opposite of the first evening.
Beautiful property nothing to not like
Noting
Outdoor seating/fire/pool
Very attentive and helpful staff. Breakfast was very good. Quality fresh fruit. Wild kangaroo hanging out behind our room window
Nothing
The location was convenient and close to transport and local amenities.
The room was small, the breakfast was disappointing, and the walls were thin, you could hear the TV in the next room and people coming and going…
We stayed at the beautiful Spicers Guesthouse for two nights and couldn’t fault a single part of our experience from start to finish. Our room was incredibly comfortable, and the grounds were immaculately maintained, offering stunning views in every direction.
The food was divine — breakfast each morning was a highlight, and in the evenings we loved relaxing with drinks by the fire, soaking in the peaceful surroundings. Dinner at the restaurant was exceptional, with the banquet a real treat, and the gnocchi an absolute standout.
What truly made the stay unforgettable, though, was the staff. Every interaction was warm, professional, and seamless — truly faultless and exceptional. We can’t wait to return.
We stayed at Spicers Guesthouse to attend a wedding. We found the venue to be well appointed and created a luxury , calmness making it a relaxing stay. The pool and facilities were very well maintained and the breakfast and food was of exceptional standard. We look forward to returning for a weekend of relaxation and bliss in the near future.
This our 4th stay and it is always incredible and homely.
The menu and chef had changed some of our fav items were not on the menu anymore. Thats all I can fault.
We have tried a number of the Spicers Resorts ; they have their "relax luxury" formula down pat.
We received their email advertising an "Autumn Escape - B&B", so booked a 3-night stay in Pokolbin. Whilst booking, the girl mentioned that the package was for a "piccolo room" and we may wish a larger room ? Space is important, so we paid about $ 50/night extra to upgrade to a King Room.
Upon arrival we got room #3. The bedroom was average size, but the bathroom was a elongated pipe of about 1m wide - even the sink was half size, because a full would have blocked it. I questioned this at reception, but was assured we got our upgrade . . .
The resort is lovely, especially the lounge with large open fire and comfortable easy chairs - perfect for reading with a nice red. Also the pool and spa are great to relax.
Breakfast is at Éremo Restaurant ; you can have it in- or outside while you watch the kangaroos grazing. They have a small buffet, mainly cereal, juice, fruits, cake and yoghurt - and a menu with about 5 choices from the kitchen. We found the menu excellent, but very limited and after 3 days we would have preferred a change.
Not related to Spicers : we found the Hunter Valley rather deserted ; apart from Chinese bustours, not many people around - a lot of places shut, neglected and in decline.
We stayed for our anniversary and the friendly service and extra touches including a message and chocolates on arrival plus the chef providing a chocolate plate for us at dinner were very well received. It is a beautiful location with luxurious accomodations and stunning sunset scenery.
The updated breakfast offerings of ordering from a menu and then having continental breakfast could have expanded options. The classics are there, but we expected a full buffet.
