This is my 2nd Visit to the Rex and it did not disappoint. The staff are exceptionally welcoming and the facilities are excellent. The roof top bar is a excellent place to sit and enjoy a drink and the breakfast is extensive in its options and of a very high quality. Hope to make it back to the Rex again.
We wanted to stay at this hotel as we first saw it 15 years ago on our first of 5 trips to Vietnam. The location is good. We selected the Presidential Suite which was roomy and comfortable to a point. Beautiful building appearance with lots of history. Great pictures/photos in the hallways. Pillow menu used effectively; quick response to request to change pillow type.
The staff were not friendly, they hardly smile (not our usual experience in Vietnam).
I was taken back by being asked to present our visa document (never asked for this in any other hotel) and the implied threat that we would not be checked in without this document. Having been travelling for two weeks I had no idea where it was within my luggage then shown to a public area in the foyer by the front door, for all personal items to be on display. I have a face that expresses my displeasure and it was obvious to all that I was not happy about this surly treatment.
We selected the Presidential Suite of course there was an additional cost to this selection for which we were happy to pay. Disappointingly we were directed above the function room, directly opposite the office for housekeeping and, a very long way from the elevator. This resulted in noise within our room much of the time, multiple times there were staff gathered outside our room, while they were not overly rowdy there was noise as would be expected by gather staff, and on our last day we were woken by extreme volume of music from the function room, then progressed to loud volume of speaking within room for 4 hours. In additional to this there was renovation works which resulted in constant hammering for the remained of our stay (we had arranged very late checkout at 3 pm). Due to our expression of noise on the final day, the manager kindly offered to provide taxi to the airport, however the taxi driver required payment of arrival to destination. There was enough dust on the shelves that I would write a message. Tissues looked like toilet paper. in a fancy box on the table.
Service in the foyer cafe area was extremely slow, causing more frustration, then the order was wrong. Boy-oh-boy! I have more experiences like this however this covers the experience sufficiently to say we were disappointed and unimpressed.
Overall, it was a disappointing accommodation experience.

We recently stayed at Rex Hotel Ho Chi Minh City and had a very enjoyable experience overall.
The room was spacious, comfortable, and well-maintained. The housekeeping team did an excellent job keeping our room clean and tidy throughout our stay. Check-in was smooth and efficient, and the hotel’s location is superb—right in the heart of the city and close to many attractions.
We particularly loved the swimming pool and steam room, which were great places to relax after a busy day exploring. The breakfast food was average, and the dining area became very crowded in the mornings, making it a little less enjoyable.
The only negative experience during our stay occurred when my husband arrived back at the hotel late one evening. As he did not have the room key with him, he needed assistance to access the room. Unfortunately, the staff member who escorted him seemed disappointed and displayed an attitude that my husband found unhelpful and frustrating.
