This hotel is a perfect spot for a relaxing vacation and some amazing scuba diving. My husband and I spent six wonderful days here to complete our scuba diving test, and it truly was one of the best hotels we've stayed at in a while. The entire staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. A particular highlight for us was the two restaurants, which were well-organized and provided excellent service, making our stay even more enjoyable. Every day, someone would come to refresh our room, make sure our bed was neatly made, and leave us a lovely treat each evening. The food was absolutely delicious, and we're already looking forward to returning! We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a peaceful, friendly, and memorable getaway.
The water in the rooms smells a little bit. But other than that, we had a fantastic time.
Came here for 5 nights so we could scuba dive 3 days on the barrier reef and The Blue Hole.
Staff was great right off the bat, picking us up at the airport in San Pedro. A short golf cart ride and then a 10 minute boat ride and we were at Matachica with a delicious welcome drink in our hands!
They had arranged our Tropic Air flight from Belize City and were able to adjust it to a later flight for our return to Belize City.
Loved our cute casita with king bed and daily room and turn down service was exceptional. Always a new fresh baked treat awaiting us at night along with a new artsy twist on folding towels, etc. Coffee was delivered each morning at our chosen time.
The food was amazing and the portions HUGE! We often shared an entrée as we could not finish one by ourself.
We loved hanging out in the infinity pool in the afternoon after returning from diving.
Would have loved a little more recognition as a Hilton Lifetime Diamond as they resisted upgrading our room at check-in. It did not matter much as we did not spend a lot of time in the room anyway.
Lots of seaweed this time of year but they worked hard to remove it each day. Again, not a big deal as we knew about it in advance and did not plan to hang out at the beach area as we were diving.
Great place to relax and very quiet at night.
Would come back again!
We visited this amazing resort with friends to celebrate several birthdays. I cannot say enough about how special this resort is and how wonderful the staff treats their guests. While all staff were amazing, Steve, Andre, and Archie went out of their way to make our trip even more special. The rooms are beautiful, the food is delicious, and the pool is perfect for relaxing. I highly recommend visiting this resort.
This is a small resort outside of the hustle and bustle of San Pedro. The location is great as it is quiet and out of the way. The rooms are individual casitas so roomy and quiet.
The staff and service are great, and the food at the restaurants are very good.
So why the reservations? One, the rooms are very hot. If you like to sleep with it hot, this does not apply to you, however, if you are used to A/C, especially while sleeping, beware. The casitas are built in a traditional island way with thatched roofs with minimal/no insulation with mini split a/c units. The mini splits cannot keep the limits cool enough. It was extremely hot at night even though they provided an oscillating fan. Information in the rooms indicates that the rooms may be warmer than we are used to. I wish they would have told me before booking.
Second, currently the sargassum seaweed is very bad. I mean very bad. They work very hard to clean it up workers start early in the morning cleaning it up manually all day. By the time they are done they start over. The stink is so bad that it permeates everything and they light incense in your room at night. It is so thick the beach is not usable and the stink is so bad you cannot enjoy it.
This a natural occurrence and not the resorts fault. They do the best they can. However, it does negatively impact the quality and enjoyment of the resort. It may be helpful if they invested in a tractor to clear it faster each day.
I did enjoy our stay. Will I stay there again? Undecided. I will make sure it is the winter season when the winds are shifted and the sargassum is gone, and maybe the weather is a bit cooler so the a/c unit can keep up.
Simply an excellent vacation, no crowds, no noise, seamless transportation, excellent food and hosting... Highly recommend!
Good hotel. The seagrass/seaweed accumulation on the beach is a bit of a drawback, but not a year round issue. The pool set up is good, so I was content, but for people wanting to lie on the beach, this would be a real issue.
I started keeping a list of the small detail things the staff were doing as they were not expected to very personalised! I got up to 7. Such a great staff. Sadly the smell of the sargassum made it not so pleasant. Not the resorts fault but the strong winds blew in the smell. I have a feeling it was the time of year. I normally come in January. BUT the place is beautiful, well appointed and the staff are amazing. Great creative chef. Really a beautiful place.
Matachica is a very special place in the northern district of Ambergris Caye. We were looking for great service, beautiful natural surroundings, snorkeling and good food. We found all of that!! All the staff are genuinely kind and friendly. They are attentive, but not formal which made our vacation pleasurable and relaxing. I wish I knew every name of every staff member. Egar, Angelita, Chris, Julio, Car, Sher, Archie, and Josue are just a few of those who made our time so memorable.
The grounds are gorgeous and very well maintained. Sargassum was constantly removed and did not bother us. The pool is lovely as are the cabanas.
We snorkeled on a private tour on three mornings with Captain Mike Hancock. He is a master guide who provided us with helpful information and an amazing experience in the water. He even managed to find a manatee for us to jump in and see.
We are so glad we came. Matachica is perfection in paradise!
The view is pretty. The rooms are fine
No room service, the continental breakfast is worse than what i have seen. Overall over priced for what you get.
I’m amazed at the number of reviews that point out the sargassum seaweed issue but still award the hotel 5 stars. I echo all the positives of other reviewers. The hotel is welcoming, great rooms, we had beach front cabanas, great service & a good bar and restaurant. All the ingredients for a perfect beach holiday ……. apart from the beach?!?
Of course it is not in the hotel’s power to control the influx of sargassum seaweed onto the beach, and they do their best to rake up as much of it each day as possible, but it is a huge negative issue. The fact is, that because of it, the beach is unusable. During our stay I didn’t see a single person sitting on the beach or swimming in the sea. The stench of the rotting weed is enough to make you gag. The sea is thick with weed & brown in colour, we were unable to swim in the sea at all during our stay. We could not sit on the beach due to the smell. It is such a dreadful shame, but had I known about the seaweed at the time of booking I would never have booked this particular hotel as sadly the beach & sea are unpleasant & we spent our days by the swimming pool, which is very nice, but we had chosen this hotel for a beach holiday. I have great sympathy for the hotel but I would strongly advise future guests not to book if they are expecting the beach to be part of their holiday. With climate change, the seasonality of this sargassum event is also changing, so beware if you are told it only affects a couple of months a year.
Struttura perfetta , coccolati dallo staff . Tornerei
Prezzi alti, poca attenzione alle allergie alimentari .
We felt so well taken care of from the moment we booked our trip. The staff was attentive, helpful, and there for anything we needed. 10 out of 10. No notes!
We had an amazing stay, perfect for a relaxing vacation. The decor, the service, the staff, the food everything was excellent.
I cannot say enough good things about Matachica. They truly take care of their guests at every moment. From the airport pickup and welcome drinks, to the send off and daily coffee deliveries, we felt like royalty the entire trip.
We spent a very special 4 days at the resort and did daily activities and left feeling like family. It was hard to leave and we will be back again!
We had a wonderful stay for our anniversary trip. The hotel was clean and well appointed, the food was delicious and the service accommodating.
We did a day pass for two at Matachica and had a really great experience overall. We arrived around 1pm and still had plenty of time to enjoy everything before leaving around 5pm.
The property is beautiful, very clean, and has a relaxed, upscale vibe that’s perfect if you’re looking to unwind without crowds.
The pool area ended up being our favorite spot—comfortable loungers, good shade, and great service. We didn’t use the beach during our visit, but the dock and beachfront areas are still nice for the views and atmosphere.
Food and drinks were very good—the fish sandwich in particular was excellent—and the day pass credit was easy to use. We almost used the full amount without even trying. We had about $8 left over, and the reception staff kindly allowed us to apply it toward the service charge, which we appreciated. The staff overall was attentive and made the experience feel smooth and easy throughout the day.
Only minor note—the sun can be intense on the daybeds during peak afternoon hours, although umbrellas are available. Having shaded areas by the pool made a big difference for us.
Overall, a great option if you want a quiet, adults-only atmosphere with good food, drinks, and a relaxing vibe. Would definitely recommend for a day p
