Everything about our stay was exceptional—from the beautiful hotel grounds and charming bungalows to the delicious food. What truly made this place stand out, though, was the attention to detail. You can tell that a lot of thought and care has gone into every aspect of the experience, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere that made our stay incredibly enjoyable. We left feeling relaxed, well looked after, and already hoping to return.
Our first time in Belize, stayed at Matachica Resort. Such an incredible resort!! Staff is amazing, friendly and makes you feel welcome. The resort is so unique, as we’ve never stayed in an hut & sleep under a net around our bed. Cool experience! Surrounded by nature here.
Amenities perfection. Cleanliness top notch. Loved the individual casitas as a room, private & cozy. We enjoyed the smallness of the resort, personable, quiet and relaxing. This resort is the reason we will return to Belize! Unique amenities done daily by the staff (turn down service, different sweet treat left in room with recipe, fresh water, etc)
The seagrass was in full force, but a resort has no control over Mother Nature. They were out ALL day consistently cleaning it up so the smell was pretty non existent.
Home away from home feeling. Thank you Matachica Reaort for an incredible vacation experience!!
Great place great people. Will be going back soon. Great food. I would maybe add a little store for snacks. The staff was amazing
Wszystko super.
I love this hotel! The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is beautiful. We slowed down and enjoyed the island life. Just go!
Service was incredible! Everyone was so welcoming and kind. Tony and Archie went above and beyond to make sure our stay was great!
We loved our stay at Matachica. Awesome, personable staff and beautiful grounds. We loved the pool and the dock. The food was fantastic. We were especially impressed by the house made pastries and bread daily. The complimentary continental breakfast is light, but if you need something more substantial, they have a full menu for purchase. Lovely pool and all around great vibes. Comfy bed and pretty casitas. Would recommend to anyone! Note that we did come in sargassum (seaweed) season so we did not expect to lay beach front but took advantage of a nearby beach club on the other side of the island. We were well aware so it didn't bother us.
The staff was great, room was nice. Air conditioning in the room was terrible. Did not like the lack of options for food. Dinner opened at 6, other than that only snack type options available. Nothing to eat anywhere close to the resort. June is a terrible time to go, Reserved a sea front hut but the seagrass and wind was so bad it made it pointless. I couldn’t keep the doors opened that I paid a lot of money for. My plan was to wake up, walk out to the beach and spend the weekend there but I couldn’t use the beach because of the seagrass and the bad smell. Because I couldn’t use the beach at the resort,I had to rent an overpriced golf cart to go to the other side of San Pedro to get in the water. Won’t go back again
Just got back from Matachica and I'm already thinking about when we can go back. Our room was stunning, the kind of space where you walk in and just stop for a second to take it all in.
We kept pretty busy exploring San Pedro, snorkeling, scuba diving but whenever we came back to the resort the pool was a great place to decompress. The kind of spot where an hour slips by without you noticing.
The little touches here are next level. Every night during turndown service they left a freshly baked cookie in the room (a different kind each night!) along with a card with the recipe so you could recreate it at home. It sounds like a small thing but it's the kind of detail that shows someone actually thought about the guest experience. We looked forward to it every single night.
The staff is what really made it though. Carlos and Archie went out of their way for us more than once and never made it feel like a job. Little things that you remember. That's the difference between a nice hotel and a place that actually sticks with you.
Highly recommend if you're heading to San Pedro!
This experience was very disappointing. It's a 3 star hotel that charges 5 star prices. Would never go back.
We only stayed for 4 days, but there was at least one negative experience per day; toilets not working, staff not being helpful, the room door wouldn't lock. All of those things would be acceptable, but not at $1,000 dollars per night.
And to top it off, they changed the speed boat ride back to the airport to a van without telling us. We were really excited to see the island during the day (we arrived at night). But when we got to the front desk to check out they told us they changed us to a van. No apologies. No notice ahead of time.
Just a beautiful location to celebrate a birthday! The hotel was in a great location, quiet, secluded, and just perfect for lazy days.
This was a lovely resort away from the crowds. The rooms are beautiful, food is delicious, the pool is a perfect getaway and our tours were spot on! The service was outstanding throughout. The only difficulty we had was the strong winds made it hard for the AC to keep up (we had a beachfront cabana, which is a higher wind area). The staff were so great and offered a room for us further back away from the winds that was very cool and better for sleeping. For a hotel to go to those measures shows true concern for their guests. A perfect place for couples. Be sure to get a golf cart to enhance to mobility and don't miss dinner at Tropical Escape - amazing food.
GREAT and clean staff, friendly. The hunt we stayed at was so beautiful inside, they accommodate you with drinks and a free complimentary shuttle back to the water taxi. I love it, will be back! great stay for a couple or a family
I feel so sorry for the hotel and this review; almost everything about the hotel is great, but the issue with the seaweed is so bad it makes the beach totally unpleasant and the odour seeps into everything. The sea close to the beach is tea coloured and smelly.
Staff were efficient and friendly and seemed to really care. The room we had on the edge of the beach was lovely; large, spotless, daily cookies, with a great bathroom and comfy bed. A v attractive small pier with lovely seating (over the tea coloured sea). The pool, thankfully, was lovely too as the beach and sea were unusable. Food consistently v v good. Fab tacos!!! Great cocktails. Quite expensive but if the beach and sea were fine then it would be good value for money and a perfect stay.
The snorkelling near the reef is truly amazing and the sunset cruise was absolutely brilliant.
The hotel tries v hard to cope, with a group of workmen clearing the seaweed every morning, but obviously it comes back within hours. Felt v sad for the hotel and whilst I praise it, I cannot recommend it.
Whatever you do, don't get the full board, all food included. This would be, yes, nice extremely expensive food three times a day. But, you will pay extra for a Coca-Cola or a cappuccino, not to mention a beer or a glass of wine or a cocktail. Cocktails cost about $15. Really! This resort is quite isolated. If you don't want to see anybody, or any of the country, stay here. If you like stinky seaweed, stay here. If you like rough granular sand on every walkway and in your sandals, stay here. If you like insects falling from the fat roof onto your bed, stay here.
The ocean breeze is amazing and non-stop. When we arrived, we got picked up immediately and driven to a speedboat for a spectacular ride to the resort over the waters. Rooms were clean with some signs of age but held up very well for our needs.
I dined at the restaurant no less than 4 times over the course of the trip. We were very surprised by how the food was consistently delicious over the course of 4 nights. Staff seems happy and taken care of. We joined the Captain’s Table and got a dedicated guide through Belizean dishes. Highly recommend for first timers. :)
