Good stay for short period

A nice hotel with a slightly lucrative policy
Pros:

Staff was very kind, helpful and responsive.
Facilities very clean and well maintained, excellent soundproofing despite being on a busy street.
Location was very good for my needs, a bit far off for visiting the city center but still at a walkable distance.
Wifi was fine, in-house restaurant open till 22:00 was a plus.

Cons:

There were some not-so-important glitches (did the online check-in and was asked to do it again upon arriving because "it doesn't always show up in the system", was allocated a room that was not made up yet, breakfast buffet layout and facilities not ideal, desk in the room shown as standard in the list of amenities but not offered in reality); however what annoyed me more was a feeling that the hotel is trying to minimise its operating costs and increase its profits in a way that makes you feel less welcome: you are encouraged to skip daily cleaning (which I would anyway do, but being given a voucher at check-in advertising extra bonus points when doing so goes perhaps a bit far), you are not offered any amenities beyond hand soap, shampoo and body shower but are requested to ask for such amenities when necessary, when arriving a bit earlier than normal check-in time you will be asked to pay an additional 29€ to enter the room. Not sure if these are common to the entire Novotel brand but this approach puts me off from booking again. Pity because the staff did their best to make my stay a very good one.

The location was central

Cons:

1. Normally we spend the birthday of my wife in a hotel and normally the hotels have a gesture with her. This is the first time nothing was organised even if we provided her birth date in the registration.
2. The breakfast was overcrowded and we had to wait a lot to get a table. We had to split the family.
3. We were two families and we asked at the registration to give us the rooms together which the didn’t even try. No alternative was offered.
