Actually, we planned a trip. Due to medical reasons I could not walk and have to have total knee replacement surgery , we had to cancel. This trip was on our bucket list. Very sad i had to cancel because my injury got worse.. We wanted to be able to walk and sight see. First I called the hotel I spoke to Ms Linda (very short but polite conversation) I stated I needed to cancel 😞 due to my injury.. She said no problem you are within the cancellation period for a FULL REFUND. but I needed to cancel through Expedia the third party. I said thank you so much call ended. So I called Expedia...spoke with a impatient , distespectful David, after a HOUR and 1/2 of a unnecessarily long call. First I said you know what instead of canceling let's move the dates to October after my surgery, and change my flights..That conversation is for Expedia review. He told me my flight would increase to $200ish more.. i said ok.then 2 mins later it increased. to approximately $400ish more.. I said why?. and then the hotel reservation would increase by about $2000.00, for same room. I stated just cancel i will redo reservation later he then stated if I cancel my reservation i would have to pay $960ish for canceling hotel and Southwest Airlines was going to keep my money for a credit..i said no..I adv what Linda said.. Now mind you I have only called the hotel once(spoke w Linda) when David reached out to hotel for a full refund per Linda(I dont know what David said to the manager Carmen.. He came back on the line and stated she said for me to NEVER contact her again. And that I needed to send in a certified letter from doctor ..proof of my injury) mind you I was shocked 😲.. I have never spoken to this Ms Carmen..
Now , why would i want to book a later reservation at this resort.. i felt threatened by her words.. and unsafe to stay at this hotel...im still waiting on my REFUND FOR THE FLIGHT. I work in customer service, and if you CAN'T deal w a customer.. you need another job. I will be going to the VIRGIN ISLANDS, but not there. It cost me over $5,000.00 for this trip. And to be disrespected..NOPE, I hope the owner or someone in charge reads this review. First speak to customer, DON'T listen to a 3rd party. Hear say.. $3000.00 this resort lost. I won't recommend simply because of the behavior of the manager Carmen. I did call the resort back same day, spoke to Linda.. i stated you said I could get a full refund.. she said well.. Just let things calm down.. i stated i dont know what you mean..i never spoke to her why would she be spewing hatred by telling me to NEVER contact her.. Linda said just let things calm down. I stated this is ridiculous.. have a good day.. THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO PULL ALL THE CALLS.. NEVER will I visit this hotel unless there's a change in management.. NO ONE SHOULD BE TREATED LIKE THOS BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO CANCEL.
Our family just returned from our stay at Secret Harbour and I can not say enough great things about this resort. First of all, the beach is beautiful and the snorkeling fantastic! The water is very calm and clear, and perfect for children of all ages. One very important note..there isn't any Sargassum at Secret Harbour! Every other beach resort which we visited had Sargassum piling up on the beach, which emits foul odors once it begins breaking down. Check in was quick, our condo was clean and well equipped, and the staff were very nice and helpful. We look forward to returning!
We had a wonderful stay at the Sugar Mill Hotel!!
Our room was beautiful, CLEAN and well appointed, with a spectacular view. Laura, who took care of our room was a delight, and kept us stocked with coffee, beer, wine, and the room sparkled every time we came back! The bed was super comfortable!
We can not say enough about the delicious meals we enjoyed at both Tramonti and the Sugar Mill Restaurant. Service was INCREDIBLE! Thank you to Jeanea, Jean, Marilyn and Shantal for taking such good care of us for 7 days!
I had two treatments at the spa. A massage and a scrub. I cannot say enough about Marjorie and her sweet spa services. She is not only a delight, but a lovely person.
During our stay, the staff and family/ friends of the owners Dennis and Mary celebrated Dennis' birthday. Andrea knew that my husband and I were at the Sugar Mill to get some rest from our hectic life and was concerned that the party would be too loud for us (it was not) however, Andrea made arrangements for us to stay in another room for the night, if we wanted to get away from the dance party. Her true concern for our happiness was very apparent and appreciative. By the way, we were also invited to join the party!
Overall, we had a fantastic time at The Sugar Mill. If youbare looking for a quiet, relaxing, beautiful place to visit, this place is for you!
Thank you to the staff for a wonderful week!
Nice beach
Rude staff, disorganized dive shop, rude towel guy. Do not recommend
Nice beach, solid beach bar
The rooms are dated for the price, the staff aside a few people trying to hold it together were rude, difficult and disrespectful. For a pool key mix up I was called stupid and and idiotic for misplacing a pool plastic card multiple times. (Trevor)
Right on the most beautiful beach with a restaurant right there and I really cool bar on the property
Nothing
Overall the experience was pleasant. The rooms were clean and spacious and the views, beach, and snorkeling were outstanding. However, while most of the staff were friendly, some could not be bothered and were very dismissive - or even outright rude. In particular, on the last day of our stay the staff could NOT be rid of us fast enough. Knocking on our doors an hour before check-out asking when we were leaving, and then several times after that even after we told them it would be closer to the check-out time. If you want guests out earlier, then make your check-out time earlier. Left a bad impression at the end of our stay unfortunately.
Beach was amazing. So if you’re coming for a feast beach this is it. Shallow water with tons of wildlife. Snorkel off the shore. Sting rays. Fish. Perfect really. It’s a secluded bay so there really wasn’t much sargassum. Room was really big ! Bathroom was huge. All tile so nice and cool. We also had a handicapped accessible room and they let us park right in front of the door which really helped us a lot. It was a little bit of an incline up and down the ADA ramps but not too bad. Might be harder if you actually had a manual chair.
The restaurant was decent. Overpriced but of course. Maybe some more gluten free options would be nice.
The only two things I could see
Improve would be some servers from the bar for drinks and some way to keep guests only on one side or at least enforce the no smoking. The cruise ship passengers were annoying and always smoked. If they had to stay on one side that would be better but idk if they can enforce that. At least enforce the no smoking.
Lastly the lady who checked us in was terrible and rude. She seemed offended by our presence. No idea why you’d hire someone like that as a front desk person.
Also there was no ice. I mean is this Europe ??? How is there no ice !!
We stayed at the Secret Harbour Beach Resort in St. Thomas and the location was fantastic — beautiful views, easy access to a wonderful beach, and the property itself is stunning. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately, we experienced significant security issues that ruined our peace of mind. The sliding balcony door in our room never locked despite multiple requests to maintenance, which went unaddressed. Even more concerning, someone accessed our hotel safe and stole over $100 in cash from my wallet while the rest of the contents were left untouched.
When we reported the theft, security responded in an aggressive and dismissive manner, and management never followed up despite promising to investigate (including checking the safe’s access logs).
While the property has strong potential, the lack of follow-through on basic security and poor handling of our complaint means I cannot recommend this hotel and would not stay here again.
Everything was close within the resort . Staff was friendly
The breakfast menu could have had more items. There were only pork options for meat and didn’t cater to people who eat turkey bacon etc. the tv remote worked when it wanted to.. everytime I turned the tv off and back on it said no signal so I had to disconnect the hdmi cable and plug it back in to get a signal every single time. The shower only had 1 side of the glass so water got out onto the floor when we took showers.
The room was spacious and nice, and the view was beautiful. The front desk staff was nice. The food was good. It was only one waitress who was older that had a bad attitude other than that the experience was good.
The view was beautiful. The room was spacious a nice looking room, but it was dirty. The floor hasn’t been swept. The side of the toilet is dirty. The toilet bowl brush holder has pee and dirt on it. The furniture had hair on. It just felt dirty sand all over the floor. The outside patio chairs are dirty. We didn’t even use them. The table outside wasn’t washed off at the bottom is just dirty. It’s just not clean in the rooms. The rooms need to be thoroughly cleaned.
Very nice place to stay with some of the absolute best snorkeling we've experienced. The condo we stayed in was ground floor, but it was building #4 which is elevated slightly, so we did have a pretty good view (the ground floor condos in the other buildings were too close to the main beach walkway, in our opinion). The room itself was nice--nothing super fancy, but everything worked and the bed was comfy and the bathroom was good. All the staff we encountered was friendly and helpful. The beach was never crowded, probably since it was the off season (mid-June). The snorkeling in the harbor was fantastic. The water is clear and not too deep and had plenty of reef areas to see a ton of fish. The restaurants (which are technically not part of the resort) were both very good. Over five days, we ate all but one meal at either Sunset Grille or The Patio and every meal was either very good or excellent. Wait staff in both places was great as well. Overall, a very nice stay at Secret Harbour.
The beach was very nice
The room was so bad, couldn’t sleep the first night , thought there was mosquitoes in the room, then realized it was actually bed bugs, insane bites all over my legss
As a mother of two, I rely heavily on reviews when choosing a family vacation destination, which is why I feel compelled to share my experience. Unfortunately, I found many of the reviews for Secret Harbour to be misleading.
I am currently staying here and have been for nearly a week. Upon check-in, we were initially assigned Room 423, which had an active sewage issue in the toilet. The room was also in significant disrepair, with peeling paint and furniture that appeared more like worn patio furniture than what you would expect in a resort accommodation.
We were moved next door to Room 422, which was an improvement, but still extremely outdated. The television did not work, there were visible stains on the side of the mattress, and water stains were present on the ceiling. A staff member attempted to repair the television but was unable to resolve the issue. He assured us someone would follow up, but no one ever did.
The pool area is very basic, with minimal shade and few amenities. The highlights of the property are undoubtedly the beach and the restaurant. The snorkeling is excellent, and the beach is beautiful.
That said, we found ourselves purchasing ResortPass access to other properties during our stay because we wished we had booked elsewhere.
The website describes Secret Harbour as an upscale resort. In my opinion, there is nothing upscale about the accommodations or amenities. You are paying a premium for the beachfront location, but the condition of the rooms and the overall resort experience do not justify the nightly rate.
At this price point, there are several other resorts in the area worth considering. Had we known the true condition of the accommodations and amenities, we would have chosen differently.
Great beach horrible staff . The rooms are dated and they are was over priced for the what you get .
We stayed a week with another couple and were very happy with the resort. We had previously stayed at Bolongo Beach a few times, but were unhappy with the amount of seaweed on the beach and the lack of maintenance. Overall we loved Secret Harbour and will be back. The reason for a 4 and not 5 rating was due to the on site restaurant, which the resort doesn’t own or operate.
Pro’s (many)
Beach can’t be beat - perfectly clean, no seaweed, great snorkeling, super staff
Rooms are extremely clean and laid out well with kitchens
On site restaurants- we wish they would replace some of the unfriendly staff (breakfast hostess)
Restaurants at Red Hook are 5 minutes away (we did Duffy’s, Tarpon, and Salt Bay
Beach staff did a good job keeping non-guests from using the beach chairs
I love snorkeling, and saw turtles and millions of fish off the beach
Views from room
Kitchens to prepare meals
Cons
Our bathroom sink never drained in unit 236, even though maintenance came and tried to clear it
The generator near our room was extremely loud (needed due to island power failures)
The hostess for breakfast was rude every day. She was always annoyed when we wanted a table with a beach view. Unfortunately the restaurants are not owned or run by the resort.
We plan to return. The overall stay was great and this is a great choice if you want a small resort to relax.
Location and staff was very accommodating.
Rooms a little dated
