We have stayed at this hotel many times over the last four years due to its proximity to Salford University and have previously been very happy with it. The excellent location and free, secure parking remain an advantage. The breakfast is also still good. Most of the reception staff are lovely and helpful, with the notable exception of the duty manager and receptionist on 17 July 2026. However, we have been dismayed that maintenance standards have dropped notably over the past year or so.
This will sadly be the last time we stay at this hotel due to increasing lack of maintenance, coupled with unacceptably poor customer service.
When we checked in on 16 July, we were allocated room 229 on 2nd floor. The lift was not working (and according to staff, has been problematic over the last few months). We are in our 60s and had heavy luggage, so it would have been nice if we had been offered a room on a lower floor - or at least offered assistance with our luggage. Sadly neither of these offers were forthcoming.
On entering the room, the heat was infernal. It was the middle of a heatwave but the hotel has air conditioning, and the aircon could have been switched on in advance so that the room was cool for guests on arrival. We switched on the aircon ... and after nearly two hours of sweltering, it was clear that what we had activated was simply the fan function and not the aircon. We tried to contact reception via the room phone, to find that this did not work.
I walked down to report this matter to the receptionist, and within a few minutes the duty manager came to investigate. The aircon didn't function well, but at lease cooled down the room enough for us to get to sleep. We were offered a change of room, but were simply too tired.
The next evening (17 July) we experienced exactly the same problem. I again walked downstairs to report the problem to the receptionist (different to the previous day), who was somewhat dismissive, but agreed to contact the duty manager. Over an hour later, he had not arrived, so I trekked down to reception again, to find that there had been a lack of communication between him and the receptionist and that our issue had not been prioritised. No meaningful apology from the manager when he arrived. Just inference that we should have accepted the room swap we'd been offered.

Room was quite small but clean and overall ok. Staff very helpfull. Breakfast was very rich.

The bed and pillows weren't comfortable
Nice stay, comfortable, staff were friendly. The air con in the room was leaking and it created a big puddle on the floor. We didn’t see it until we were checking g out - it’s not a complaint as these things happen I’m just making you aware
Also breakfast was lovely!
