Unfortunately, our stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Birmingham SE/Liberty Park has been extremely disappointing and nowhere near the standard we normally expect from a Hilton property.
From the moment we entered the hotel, something seemed off. The HVAC system in the main areas does not appear to be working properly. The hotel feels humid and has an unpleasant, musty smell. When we entered our room, it was hot and also had a musty odor. We immediately turned on the A/C hoping it would improve the situation, but the room continued to feel damp and uncomfortable.
To make matters worse, my daughter ended up with two bug bites on her legs while we were in the room. I contacted the front desk, and thankfully they did move us to another room.
There have been several other issues as well. Only one of the two elevators is working, and the digital floor indicator inside the working elevator is broken, so you cannot even tell what floor you are on.
During some downtime, we decided to use the fitness center. Unfortunately, it had a strong mold/mildew smell, and there were no antibacterial wipes available for guests to clean the equipment before or after use.
Then this morning, we learned that the cook did not show up for work, so breakfast could not be prepared as expected.
One issue by itself would be understandable, but the combination of poor ventilation, musty odors, maintenance problems, cleanliness concerns, unavailable breakfast service, and an uncomfortable guest room points to a much larger problem with how this property is being maintained and managed.
I’m not sure what is happening at this location, but this has been one of the most disappointing hotel experiences we’ve had. This property is not meeting the level of quality I associate with the Hilton name, and based on our experience, I would not recommend staying here.
Everything was very nice for our stay. Staff was very hospitable and courteous. We enjoyed our stay. Thank you.
Sorry to only thing was TV went out during storms in area - no signal.
Property is close to everything, property looks nice
My wife(handicapped) and I had been at my 40 year high school reunion and had a great time seeing classmates.
We arrived to the property at midnight exhausted, we checked into our room which was designated handicapped accessible to our horror, there weren’t any clean sheets on the bed, in fact some sheets were balled up on the chair not sure if they were clean or dirty.
Now we’re on the third floor and my wife has issues walking and her leg was hurting so I had to take a risk and leave her in the room and take the elevator down to the front desk because no phone was in the room?
The person on duty was nice and immediately placed us in another room which was clean and well stocked.
Sunday morning we were getting ready for church and I went to open the blinds so the sunlight could come in.
I tried using the switch several times before contacting the front desk. A staff member was sent up to our room in reasonable time however he couldn’t get the shade to go up.
My wife and I were heading out to church and could not be inconvenienced any longer due to time constraints.
Very nice rooms, clean, quiet and comfortable. Friendly staff.

No free breakfast!
Good breakfast. Cold or hot food offered for a price.
My kids loved the indoor swimming pool.
I wish the indoor swimming pool would have been heated.
Booked here because I saw traveler photos that showed a hot tub. This hotel no longer has an indoor hot tub. Indoor pool was also freezing. Other than these, the hotel was very nice.
Pool was so cool we couldnt use it. In fact nobody could only some children. Nothing to do within walking disrance. Front desk staff person didnt even know where the pool was and said there was no bars or cafes in the area. She didnt know the area she said.
Pool way too cold to use. After driving 5 hours from New Orleans we really wanted to relax in the pool but the water was so cold we couldnt.
We love this location when traveling through Birmingham- so convenient, comfortable clean rooms
