Great location, less than average hotel
Pros:

This is a wonderful historical structure undermined by a three star hotel. The building is amazing and I only wish the rooms, the amenities, and the staff lived up the promise not only of the building, but also the Hilton brand. Check in was perfunctory and I really felt like I was for. The clerk a favor by staying there. They just didn’t seem to care. Once in the room I discovered one of the TV remotes did not work and neither did the light in the room. The bathroom was firm the last century and I felt like it was updated during the first Bush administration. The rust streaks on the wall reflected the lack of care and cleaning throughout the room. The tables and chairs were worn and old, nothing seemed update for cared for. It simply did not reflect the quality I thought I was paying for as a Hilton Honors Member. Breakfast was also perfunctory and just not very clean. When I noticed that dirty dishes were stacked next to the food line I had to wonder about the staffs training and overall cleanliness. Would I stay here again? No. It just wasn’t up to the standard I thought I was paying g for - sorry to see embassy suites going downhill.

Cons:

The furnishing looked like they hadn’t been updates since the 80’s. The carpet in the stairwells was filthy and worn out. The couch and chair in the room was something you would see on the side of the road. Well worn out. Bathroom plumbing barely worked. Water in shower was only one temp. Curtains in room were broken and were very hard to close.

Stay here, it's awesome.
Pros:

Wow, what a cool building. Apparently it was an armory or something. Staff was excellent. Will stay here again next year!!! BONUS, COCKTAIL RECEPTION!!!

Cons:

Parking was excessively expensive.. 3 free drinks would be better than 2 😎

Fun, friendly and courteous staff.
Pros:

Location is great. Staff was excellent, friendly and very accommodating. Breakfast was very good cocktail hour was a nice surprise.

Cons:

Rooms were a little run down. It is an old building but the rooms could use new paint, new carpets. There is much potential for this place.

Bikers beware
Pros:

Dated, worn, overpriced and below Hilton standard.

$50 per night to valet park a motorcycle, when they don’t actually park it. Then it’s out in the open for all to mess with. Most hotels allow bikes to park out front free of charge, not here. It’s a ripoff.

Not up to standards
Pros:

This was a hard call. I love Embassy Suites but…pros great location, great breakfast , nice pool area. Cons no one told us no guest parking available only valet at $50 a day. That needs to be told up front. The room we had was in the old section needed restoration big time. Wonder how long the mattress was on the bed. Needs to be updated awful noise when you sat on edge or rolled over. Very thin. The bathroom was so small only one person could be here. The toilet sounded like it was coming apart when you flushed. Overall room smelled musty. Was not up to there usual great standards.

Location can't be beat, but interior is beat up. Staff is awesome.
Pros:

Loved having a living room and a bedroom. Really loved the location; can't beat a farmer's market under your window for fresh peaches. Walkable to the best dining.

Cons:

The carpets in this hotel are disgusting; I mean, how expensive is it to replace them? I think a paint job, better lighting and new carpets would revive this place. The main area of the first floor is fabulous but so not cozy; though not a necessity, a few pieces of larger carpet, large palms or fiddles, and new seating would make this place feel so much more luxe.

Historical building
Pros:

The property is in a historic building converted into a hotel. (Formerly, the citadel military academy) It's in a great location in the middle of the historic district of Charleston. Next to the property is a large green field which is great for letting the kids run around or taking the dog for a walk. We were there over the weekend and there was a farmers market which was nice. Every single one of the staff was fantastic. All very nice and accommodating. The bartender, Erica I believe is her name, was great. And Devin I believe was his name checked us in who was also great. I would say the staff is what saves this property. The layout of the rooms was good. However, the keep was not. Myself and multiple other couples that were on this trip noted there was mold in the rooms. The shower curtain rod was not properly secured thus causing it to sag and making the shower curtain itself consolidate in the center of the rod. Above the check-in counter, there are wooden slats that are covered in dust that look like they haven't been attended to in quite some time. I'm usually a big fan of the embassy suite properties within the Hilton brand, but I don't see myself making reservations here in the future. Future. Again, kudos to the staff, they were all great from the gentleman working the valet to housekeeping and even the gentleman doing spot checks behind housekeeping.
