Went for dinner on a Saturday night. Despite early time 6.15 and virtually empty restaurant service was very slow. Bread rolls offered were stale and requested additional butter never arrived.
Food was limited menu but ok if expensive and medium glass of rose at £9.45 extortionate. Two scoop of ice cream dessert took 25 minutes to arrive and added service charge 10% an insult and not paid.
Hope that this was an isolated incident but if not plenty of other places in the area offering similar or better value and service.
La posizione stupenda e la gentilezza del personale
I servizi sanitari da modernizzare
Lovely old hotel with spacious clean rooms. No Aircon but very fresh from the sea air and a great view of the ocean. Ample parking.
However, there is not "direct access to the beach" as that path has been closed due to disrepair for years. It is a 10 to 15 minute walk to get there.
Avoid the restaurant; the food is poor quality despite being expensive (the famous Cromer crab was inedible) and they under-staff it. We gave up on the hope of being offered dessert after being sat in front of our dirty dinner plates for 25 minutes.
Superb views of the sea with an unspoilt lawn in front. Lovely old building which gave a sense of staying somewhere fancy.
No beach access as indicated. Restaurant food was lousy despite being expensive. Lots of tables in pretty places but all full with empty glasses as they don't have enough staff.
The bathroom and the dinner was good.
The breakfast was a bit below what was expected - scrambled eggs overcooked - and overpriced.
Beautiful hotel. Friendly staff. Comfortable room with an amazing view of the sea.
Lobster was a bit small. I thought they had to throw the little ones back.
Loved the location and the grounds. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable. However I do not like just a rain shower, I prefer a hose too. The food wasn't that good and quite expensive.
Explained above.
Old fashioned charm but mostly modern the sea view. And garden.
Window didn’t open in room
Our favourite north Norfolk hotel has changed so we decided to try The Sea Marge, so pleased we did. Hotel, terrace, room, service, food and staff all exccellent. Wonderful location and grounds. Such a lovely experience after a few miserable weeks following health problems. Only one minor observation, UHT creamy milk in the coffee machines, really not to our taste, easily sorted.
A grand building which feels like an old friend, it has charm in bucket loads, the rooms are comfortable and clean and the location is stunning, just minutes from endless dramatic coastline and a good beach. The staff are super helpful and friendly and the food which we had was great.
It’s old fashioned charm, relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. We have visited often and keep returning for the same reason, there’s nowhere else quite like it.
That we can’t come more often!
Location is excellent and terrace and gardens make the stay very pleasant even if you do not venture far from the hotel. Room was quiet and comfortable. Bed was exceptionally comfortable with good quality bed linen and pillows. Lift is a big bonus.
Staff are sometimes overstretched and do not always recognise the needs of the elderly customers. Needs either a ramp or edge marking on the steps leading to the terrace. Chef needs to cook the broccoli.. it is not a vegetable that is easy to eat raw. Entrance and lift flooring needs replacing.
I love the history of the building/hotel and its location. The rooms are large and the beds are very comfortable. The staff were very helpful.
Can be difficult to park
After a walk across the cliffs from Cromer we had a lovely lunch today sitting in on the terrace in the sunshine - well worth the walk and will certainly return. However we found the staff unfriendly and very unhelpful. We took a walk through the garden and when we returned to theI realised I’d left a bottle of water on the table which I had used for my dog had been cleared away - as we had to walk back in hot weather I asked if I could get another empty bottle to use - the answer was no!!! Tried again, this time asking the male waiter who was far more pleasant - he disappeared off and returned not only with a bottle but he’d filled it with tap water. It was a simple request, they were busy and if she’d pointed me in the direction of the recycling bin I’d have happily fished one out myself
We stayed at The Sea Marge Hotel this weekend. Overall, it is a lovely hotel with friendly staff, but there are definitely some areas that could be improved, particularly around the dog-friendly offering and breakfast arrangements.
On arrival, check-in was straightforward and welcoming. We were asked whether we would like a wake-up call and a newspaper, which was a nice touch. The hotel has a lovely car park to the rear, as well as a few parking spaces at the front, which was convenient.
The hotel advertises itself as dog friendly, and while I would agree that it is to some extent, the experience did not fully meet expectations. We booked a deluxe dog-friendly room and, according to the website and what I was told when booking, the room should have included dog bowls, a dog bed and a towel. On arrival, there was one dog bowl, a towel, but no dog bed. One bowl is also not really sufficient, as most dog owners need one for food and one for water.
We were also given the dog rules on arrival, and I found some of these disappointing. In particular, advising guests not to leave dogs alone in the room but suggesting they could be placed in the car is concerning and not something I would consider appropriate or safe.
Our room, “The Driftwood”, unfortunately had a strong damp smell when we entered. We could not identify where it was coming from, but it was noticeable. The room was booked for two adults, yet there was only one dressing gown provided, and there was just over half a roll of toilet paper for our stay. Thankfully, after breakfast I noticed the housekeeping trolley and took another roll back to the room.
We ate in the bar on Saturday evening, which was fine, and there were plenty of staff and other guests around. However, Sunday breakfast was a very different experience and left us feeling as though we were being penalised for having a dog. We were seated in the bar area, which was completely empty, with no staff present to assist. When someone eventually came through, we were told we had to walk to the other end of the hotel to collect our fruit juice, tea and coffee from the main breakfast area and bring it back ourselves.
If the hotel regularly caters for dog owners in the bar area, then I feel there should be a proper breakfast setup available there too, including drinks and staff support.
My husband and I ordered the full English breakfast, which was fine. However, my son ordered pancakes with fruit compote and cream, priced at £15.95, and we were very disappointed when only two small pancakes arrived. Given the cost of the dish and the basic ingredients involved, I would have expected a more generous portion, such as a proper stack of larger pancakes.
We also did not receive the newspaper we had been offered at check-in.
Overall, The Sea Marge Hotel is a pleasant hotel with friendly staff and a lovely setting, but the dog-friendly service needs to be reviewed so that it feels genuinely welcoming and practical for guests with dogs. Breakfast arrangements for dog owners also need improvement, as the current setup does not provide the same level of service as other guests appear to receive
