Grainger House Hotel

The water was cold and shower did not work! The room was cold and the heating was not working but the staff did help get me a fan heater! Beds were comfy!

Cold. Dirty. Stains all over the walls. Rude staff

Tired and rundown. In need of much tlc.
Beds and pillows had no protectors on. No tv remotes. I queried this but none materialised. No lift. Just so basic. Room smelled of smoke. Nowhere to hang clothes, not even a chair in the room. In the morning there was no hot water.

Everything, i am calling for a refund, I couldn't stay in a very smelly place. what was advertised is different from what the property is, and is a shame that booking.com is advertising this hotel without been there, I won't put a prisoner there, the hotel needs to be short down and go through a renovation, everywhere smells very horrible, stench smelling of damp, dirty rug, bathrooms check 4 rooms and couldn't find one to stay in, I just want my money back and quick, why deceive people with a wrong picture why on earth, is not even a 1 star hotel and needs to close down for renovation

Room was dirty and bugs crawling around. Fire alarm went off several times during the night with no information or reason explained.

Lack of facilities;very dated and in need of updating; not the cleanest (although bed sheets were fine)

Room Dirty & rundown

Where do I start. Place is so run down, not one image you see advertised is the place, it’s definitely not as clean as the pictures make out, they have to be AI generated . Room is FREEZING. We had one key between 4 of us and when asked for more we were told they didn’t have any more. Place is so cold and damp that it smells, bed sheets actually feel wet as do your clothes the next morning.

The pictures on the website are not a true representation. There is no flatscreen TV in the room, there is a tiny TV that doesnt work. The garden view looks out to a bit of grass surrounded by heras fencing (not pretty). There is a wardrope but no access as the desk blocks it. The curtains were falling off the hooks so do not close properly. The "executive lounge" is a large room with a few sofas, really uninviting. The cleanliness was of a very low standard.

The room is NOT the room in the photos, nothing near. No view of garden, it was a view of roof tops. The room was dirty, scuffs on wall, a hole in the wall covered by a stuck in piece of paper. Bathroom dead bugs in the corner. Had to go to reception to ask for another towel and a toilet roll. Overall, a nasty room. I was completely scammed by the amount I paid!!

We refused to stay here. We checked in and checked out 10 minutes later. The place stunk of damp the moment you walk in. The furniture looked like it had been picked out of a skip. It was swollen with damp. The carpet was heavily damaged. The bathroom was disgusting and mouldy. The shampoo they provide was a little empty bottle left on top of the shower. The window did not shut. It had no handle and was locked with a security tag. The TV wire was damaged. The wall had brown stains down it that looked like vomit. Some of the windows in the building were smashed and others did not have any glass at all. There was a dead beatle on the floor of the bathroom. The mirror was held together with sellotape.

We did not move the bedding but it stunk.

Unfortunately, there were a lot of issues for the price paid. The grounds were not as large as described, and there was a noticeable smell of damp in the reception area.

The lounge looked old and tired, with mismatched furniture and décor. Some plug sockets did not work and the coffee machine was out of order. The paintwork on the stairs and landing was also bubbling and poorly finished.

The room was extremely small, more like a box room with a double bed. There was a broken wall socket and a loose socket under the TV, a missing clothes hook, cracks in the walls and generally tired décor. There was also no towel or spoons provided.

The bathroom had mould on the windowsill, poorly fitted flooring, poor sealant around the walls, unsuitable/unshaded light bulbs and an electrical cable that was not properly trunked.

No breakfast was included, and I did not sleep particularly well.

I also felt the additional £10 charge was unreasonable after paying £297 for one night, even allowing for the increased prices due to the Great North Run. Overall, the property has a beautiful building but is in need of considerable maintenance and refurbishment to justify the price being charged.

Dirty rooms and not fully stocked with kettle, teabags, milk and mugs. Had to ask for more towels too.

Disgusting. Moldy carpet that had not been hoovered. Someones hair everywhere. Dirty surfaces. Unclean bedding and curtains. Nobody came to service the room. Ran out of toliet roll.
