Tides Folly Beach, Charleston's Oceanfront Hotel

I like the beachfront location. There were many restaurants in walking distance. The pool was warm and the ocean was warm. The food and drinks at pinky’s was very good

Someone else paid for our stay, and we put our card down at check-in strictly for incidentals. At checkout, we were handed a receipt with 9 separate taxes already listed on it, and the front desk said nothing about any remaining balance. After we left, a $36 resort fee hit our card—completely undisclosed at check-in, omitted from our checkout bill, and charged without providing a separate receipt. Very misleading billing practices—watch your credit card statement closely after staying here.

The beach was deep, sand was clean and smooth. We had hotel lounge chairs, so that made it even better. We stayed at the hotel, so not sure about parking. I know there was a public lot nearby, but it seemed to fill up fast. Lots of little beach bars nearby to get drinks and good food. Great beach to spend the day.

We stayed at this hotel for a week while vacationing in the area. The location was excellent and convenient to nearby attractions, which was definitely the biggest positive.

Unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing due to several service and amenity issues.

The hotel lacks family-friendly amenities. When the weather was bad, there were no activities, game room, or indoor entertainment options for children. The restaurant options were also limited, and we felt there should have been better food choices for guests staying multiple days.

Housekeeping and customer service were the biggest concerns. On our second day, we requested additional towels in the afternoon and were told they would be delivered. They never arrived. The following morning, a family member had to go to the front desk and wait about 20 minutes just to get towels.

Later in the week, we spilled a beverage on the bed and called at 9:00 a.m. requesting housekeeping to change the sheets. No one came. We called again around 4:30 p.m. and were assured someone would "definitely" be there before housekeeping left at 5:00 p.m. Again, no one came. After waiting until nearly 7:00 p.m., we called a third time and were told no housekeeping staff was available. Once again, a family member had to go downstairs, wait another 20 minutes for clean linens, carry them back to the room, and we had to strip and remake the bed ourselves. No one ever came to collect the dirty linens or apologize for the inconvenience.

Check-in and check-out were also frustratingly slow. There was usually only one person working the front desk, resulting in long lines. We waited approximately 30 minutes just to check in.

When we arrived, the floors in our room were dirty and covered with sand. Throughout our stay, the coffee supplies and cups were never replenished.

The room itself could also use some improvements. There were very few electrical outlets, and the ones available were in inconvenient locations, such as behind the dresser. Our room had a nice deck, but there were no patio chairs to enjoy it. A microwave in the room would also have been a welcome addition, especially for families staying several days.

What disappointed us most was not that problems occurred, but that there was little follow-through and no acknowledgment or apology when they did. With better staffing, improved housekeeping responsiveness, and a few family-friendly amenities, this hotel could provide a much better guest experience because the location is truly one of its greatest strengths.

When we got there there was dirty fridge, several pillows with no pillowcases. We had a balcony with sliding doors-the door was virtually impossible to open-and when we got it open-there were no chairs to sit outside on patio. And even if we had some-there was only one area to sit bc the other part of the patio constantly dripped water from the upper room-for the money I paid also there is no breakfast options at all. They have a little store with Starbucks coffee and some Starbucks snacks-but when coming with kids I was expecting a breakfast option-I was not at all impressed. However the location was gorgeous. The employees were very kind.

I loved how welcoming and easy the check-in and check out process is. The greeter made such a nice impression when we first arrived.
