Beautiful building, but the service did not match the price. 
Pros:

It is a beautiful historic building, located at a nice location close to restaurants and the Capital Building.

Cons:

It was difficult to get information during my stay. I had a hard time getting through to front desk via phone. In addition, there were no maps posted anywhere that told you where amenities like the gym were located. The menu on the TV was no help. No maps or info at the front desk, not in the room, nor in the elevator.

Nice hotel in middle of shithole.
Pros:

Hotel is nice

Cons:

Downtown Sacramento is a disaster. Downtown Sacramento feels very unsafe and poorly maintained. The park across from the hotel is heavily occupied by people struggling with homelessness and substance use, which makes the area uncomfortable. There’s also loud drag racing at night, adding to the sense of disorder.

Unique Charm in Sac
Pros:

Wonderful, unique and comfy hotel! Love the old styling - just added the best vibe. Room was comfortable and well-decorated. Staff was friendly, helpful and added to the experience. Would definitely stay here again. I'm writing a separate review for their restaurant, which was exceptional as well,

Sweet hospitality
Pros:

We have been celebrating my boyfriend’s birthday annually in California for the past 5 years and this was the first hotel stay I’ve ever experienced such sweet hospitality. The concierge surprised us with a complimentary bottle of champagne. It was just the perfect way to start the birthday celebration. Thank you Jarrett!

I would stay here again. Amazing stay
Pros:

Excellent customer service, staff was amazing. I had the valet take my car and every time I requested my car, they would bring it out for me right away. The room was beautiful and clean.

Cons:

The room didn’t have trash bags.

It’s beautiful but I’ll stay somewhere I can actually sleep.
Pros:

It’s a beautiful hotel! Location is fantastic. The restaurant is amazing!!

Cons:

The hallways smell like old marijuana smoke. The walls are paper thin. I had neighbors all night until 3:30 AM partying. I told the staff and they never calmed down.

Cons:

There was no fitted sheet on the bed and was told they dont put fitted sheets on the bed. Valet garage door broke and i waited an hour for my car. The noise from street and elevators was loud and it was not a restful stay.

The Citizen is beautiful and well-staffed.
Pros:

The Citizen is a beautiful, historic hotel. It is impeccably clean. I felt safe inside the hotel.

Cons:

I didn’t hear back from the email I sent inquiring about a possible early check in. It was hard to find a direct phone number to the hotel. Phone numbers were linked to a corporate Marriott center.
