Comfortable bed and good shower.
Controls to TV were not good. difficult to find common channels and could not get subtitles (hard of hearing)
Car park is managed by ParkingEye - the check-in console at the desk did not seem to be working. I entered my registration correctly but the machine did not seem to accept. I took a photo of the screen as I felt there may be some come back. The desk staff said the machine had only been installed a few days before and they didn’t understand it either.
Fast forward a couple of weeks and I have a £100 fine from ParkingEye. I lodged an appeal with them with photographic evidence that I entered the reg of my vehicle correctly, and also that I was entitled to free parking as a guest of Holiday Inn. They have reduced the fine to £20 on condition I pay within 14days, and that I forfeit this ‘offer’ if I appeal further via POPLA. This tells me they have low confidence they can make this stick. Internet search shows >50% of appeals against this company are successful.
Life is too short, so I have paid the £20.
There is no point in me howling at the moon with a poor review of Parking Eye - not surprisingly they have 98% 1 star reviews on TrustPilot.
It is however worth my while leaving a negative review for Holiday Inn.
I can’t understand why Holiday Inn would use such a company to manage parking at their establishment. The business model of companies like ParkingEye, particularly when managing free parking, must rely on tactics that aim to defraud customers of Holiday Inn. There is plenty of evidence of such tactics in TrustPilot reviews.
Other than the experience with ParkingEye, I have a very pleasurable stay with a clean room and pleasant staff.
The easy and free parking in a good location.
The rooms in this hotel are generous. The aircon was effective. Staff were super helpful. Breakfast buffet was excellent. I’d favour this hotel over any other local alternative.

Bed too hard, didn’t sleep as we would have liked
The perfect overnight stopover heading up to a Wedding in North Yorks leaving a short 1hr journey the next morning. The hotel is right next to the M1 for easy access and we just bought some food from the nearby M&S in the southbound M1 services and ate it in the room watching the football (a 5 min detour to go South and then North again). The staff were happy to give us plates and cutlery and were very helpful and friendly all round. Bed was very comfy, the air con a necessity in the heatwave and the buffet breakfast (cooked and continental options) was also very good and excellent value booked with the room in advance. Would defo use again.
Air con in our room was very noisy, reported to reception and will hopefully be sorted for the next guests. Other than that was faultless.
