Being an Intercontinental Hotel, this was the worst I have ever experienced. This hotel fails the IHG. I am sorry I stayed at this hotel but will vote with my feet and leave it immediately. Never again IHG!
it was clean
was to far you couldn’t walk to town
I book a lot for business and really enjoy my stay at this property. The staff goes beyond amazing.
Helen, the lifeguard had a wonderful interaction with with the families at the pool and had genuine kindness for the children while keeping a close eye on safety.
George Sagias in the restaurant made my meal great. Always attentive to the staff and customers. Attitude reflects leadership and his willingness to make sure you have a great experience is greatly appreciated. I enjoyed the stay.
This was an outstanding hotel - not only was it beautiful but the service and friendliness of the staff was terrific. We had to call the hotel to let them know that our plane was delayed and we wouldn't be arriving until midnight. I didn't want them to think we were a no show for a 3 night stay. I was told not to worry and they would have a " beautiful room with a big comfy king size bed waiting for us." That was the best! When we walked in at 1 AM they were waiting for us and we did get a perfect room. They have a great morning buffet. Lots of options to eat and drink.
Stayed here on points. The staff were helpful and nice. The room was spacious and well-equipped. However, we were told that our room was recently renovated. What we weren’t told is that the room above us was currently being renovated. On two mornings, we were awoken by the sounds of hammers and drills. The staff offered to switch our room to one with an Acropolis view but we had already unpacked all our things. Instead, they gave us access to the executive lounge.
This hotel is not near any of the touristy neighborhoods. The closer “attractions” are nearby strip clubs. The neighborhoods near the Acropolis are a 15 Euro drive each way.
This is not my first visit to this hotel, lamentable, I found That this time is not good that it used to be. The amenities are not as good as other intercontinental Hotels, a matter of fact are very rare: no shoehorn, there was no shampoo in the bathroom, no shoe matt, I know these are not essentials, but there are things that I have enjoyed in other visits even to this hotel. I went to the pool and asked if there was Jacuzzi and the young lady who was attending at the pool told me that she didn’t know and that I can ask someone else. I don’t think she has a very brilliant future as a host. I could not mirror my iPad or my iPhone in the TV. They are not Apple compatible which I think is a very bad thing in one hotel of this category. I am a Platinum member with IHG and I have been for many years. Usually, I get an upgrade, not this time.
I have stayed in many Intercontinental properties over the years, and the welcome we received here was second to none. The room was impeccable, the view of course is historically epic and the staff were honestly just lovely. My partner and I loved the club lounge, enjoying cocktails with the Acropolis framing our evening, and we felt genuinely welcome without any hint of false hospitality, it was the highlight of our stay in Athens to be able to come home to such a well appointed room with such excellent staff. We very much look forward to returning.
We had a wonderful stay at the InterContinental Athenaeum Athens. We checked in at the Club floor, where there was a dedicated desk for their guest. We met Pemy, and she was exceptional, providing all the details needed for a wonderful stay in Athens. The lounge itself was a beautiful space with indoor and outdoor spaces, and an attentive staff. We can see the Acrophis from the rooftop, and at night it was amazing to see it lit up with lights.
We were given a room on the 8th floor with a king room and a living room. It was spacious and modern. Very comfortable!
We also enjoyed fantastic meals at both of the hotel’s restaurants - Cafezoe and Artbistrot. The breakfast buffet at Cafezoe had all the standard continental and hot options, including Greek specialties like yogurt and Baklava. For dinner, we tried Artbistrot, and it blew my mind. As a high-status member of a hotel chain, I had never had a meal at a hotel restaurant that would motivate me to write a review. We ordered three dishes, and they were all amazing. The Truffle Fries, Iberico Porkchops, and the Moussaka were out of this world. Our server, Anastasia, was amazing as she was engaging, friendly, and always checked on us.
The hotel is about a 26 (1.5-mile) walk to the Acropolis. If you don't mind walking, it was a good location for us as it is about the same distance to the Plaka, Monastiraki, Athens Flea Market, etc.
The Athenaeum Athens is one of the finest hotels in the world. The room was fresh and comfortable. The service in the lobby and at the Front Desk was outstanding. The Breakfast buffet was fantastic. And the view from the roof top is amazing. Don't miss it!
We had a mostly enjoyable stay at this property. We were upgraded to a suite at check in which was most appreciated. The bed is very comfortable and the towels are lovely and fluffy. The magnifying mirror was a treat. Plenty of water in the rooms and the view of the acropolis from the lounge on level 10 could only be described as amazing. Housekeeping were very efficient except that on our second day they removed the key that we had in the electricity outlet in the room. I didnt really mind until husband explained to me that its actually a security issue as we dont know who has that keycard and they can now access our room at anytime. Quite a valid point. We ate at Premiere restaurant and whilst we appreciated the view and the service, we felt that the food was a little overpriced.
I did want to mention that we witnessed many guests being "early" checked in before regular checkin time by reception which is a rarity in Europe and I think should be commended.
Our room was, however, right next door to the construction works taking place and although it only occurred during the day, it was extremely loud and disruptive and continuous. I would suggest requesting a room at the other end of the hotel. We also had 2 very bright fluorescent lights in our room that couldn't be turned off at all. We had to call a handyman after 10pm to come and disconnect them at the switchboard so we could sleep. Odd.
Hotel lobby area is lovely. Do yourself a favour and go and eat at Grill House Vassilis closeby. It will be your favourite meal.
Overall we had a nice stay. Would I stay again ? - probably no.
This is a beautiful hotel with a huge buffet breakfast and lovely rooftop bar with views of the Acropolis. It's a bit of a walk to the Acropolis area, but cabs are easy to get. It has an out door pool for those hot Athens days. We would definitely stay here again!
Check in was quick and painless. I skipped breakfast. Pool is on 1st floor. I’m platinum ambassador (mid tier) with IHG. My room was upgraded. The bed was super comfy and a/c cold. I went Green and declined housekeeping. The pool isn’t huge but plenty of seating and towels. All staff were extremely kind and professional. Several restaurants on site. I’m a huge fan of
