I am writing to formally complain about a highly disappointing stay at Holiday Inn Wandsworth, London, which was booked through Booking.com.
A significant part of the issue was that the hotel room did not have air conditioning available, despite this not being adequately disclosed at the time of booking. During check-in, I was informed by hotel staff that for reservations made through third-party platforms such as Booking.com, the hotel had simply removed "air conditioning" from the facilities list. This does not constitute clear or adequate disclosure. The absence of such a basic amenity, particularly during warm weather in London, should have been prominently highlighted before a customer commits to a booking.
On the day of our arrival, the outside temperature was approximately 26°C. The only notification I received was a message sent after the booking had already been completed. As I only saw this message shortly before check-in, it did not provide sufficient notice to make alternative arrangements. Had the lack of air conditioning been clearly disclosed during the booking process, I would have selected alternative accommodation.
When I raised my concerns at reception, Jake was dismissive and appeared unwilling to engage constructively with the feedback. Rather than acknowledging the issue, my concerns were brushed aside, which further added to the frustration of the experience.
The hotel's solution was to provide a fan. Unfortunately, the fan was extremely noisy and made it very difficult to sleep. I am not normally a light sleeper, yet I slept very poorly throughout the stay as a result of the heat and constant noise.
This wasn’t it- another Most concerning incident was a comment made by another receptionist during check-in. My 14-year-old niece was asked where we were from, and when she replied that we are from India, the receptionist said we should be used to warm weather and therefore be fine without air conditioning.

Około północy Pan z personelu zapukał do drzwi i zapytał jak się nazywam bo ktoś z obsługi coś namieszał z pokojami. Mało sympatycznie. No i minus za płatny parking przy hotelu
Staff were helpful, friendly and able to provide answers to all our questions, nothing was too much trouble. a little surprised that we went to breakfast almost at the start but some items were a little cooler than expected, that said there was in deed a full selection of all items. We needed to leave our bags after checkout and this was handled without any drama.
Had planned to dine at the hotel in the evening but felt the choice was quite limited and the same could be said about the drinks selection at the bar.

A year on since my last visit, the air conditioning in tge rooms still wasn't working. It was a warm weekend, so barely slept due to the heat and the noise from outside our broken and,I think single glazed window.
Pillows were also uncomfortable.
