Categories

Cleanliness
8
Bathrooms described as modern and clean by some guests, but occasional hygiene/maintenance issues appeared (rusted shower fixtures, server hair reported, and areas needing freshen-up).
Service
9.2
Staff repeatedly praised as friendly, professional and helpful (night porter available, staff stayed late for parties). Some lapses noted (lengthy check-in, unanswered complaint email).
Location
8.6
Several guests called the location great and convenient; one guest noted rural access added travel time but this is not a fault of the hotel itself.
Room Quality
7.2
Multiple maintenance and layout issues reported across rooms (broken blinds, wonky toilet touching wall, broken bedside lamp, narrow spaces, creaky floors, rusted fixtures, noisy pipes), though some rooms were praised as large and comfortable.
Amenities
8.4
Good on amenities mentioned: free parking, outdoor seating, restaurant, night porter. However guests experienced problems with hot water reliability and external light disturbance.
Value for Money
8.2
Standard quality for this hotel tier
Food and Beverage
8.8
Breakfast repeatedly praised as high quality and tasty; evening meals often rated very well, though there were isolated quality complaints (tough pork belly) and a service grooming lapse.
Overall Experience
7.2
Overall a charming, characterful hotel with friendly staff and good food, but recurring maintenance, hot-water and noise issues led to mixed stays for some guests.

Disappointed
Pros:

The staff as always

Cons:

The breakfast is not like is used to be, local products, are not used anymore.

The garden lodge, desperately needs refurbishment.

Black window frame
Front door plinth rotten and came away as we opened the door.
Kitchen door hanging off

Bath surround very old and cracked.

We have been staying in the Great house for many years, sadly its not the same attention to detail.

Lovely quirky old hotel
Pros:

Great old building, room was different given the overhead lighting show above the bed, maybe not every ones cup of tea but amusing nonetheless.

Cons:

Time it took to get there from Cornwall. M5 a nightmare, 3 hour journey took 10 hrs, not fault of hotel but rural location didnt help

Pros:

The staff at this hotel are lovely very professional and friendly nothing is too much trouble. This is our second stay here in 4 days. We liked the atmosphere, and their is a night porter on through the night in case you need anything. I would highly recommend anyone to stay here.

Cons:

There wasn't anything that we didn't like it really was lovely

My stay was for the purpose to break up my travel for rest, this was not achieved.
Pros:

The staff were friendly and welcoming.

Cons:

My Pork Belly was so tough, it was difficult to cut. The chair I was on at my table was broken. The server hair was not tired back. My room could use a little freshen up. I bruised myself on catching the edge of bed because the space between bed and chair against desk was narrow. The toilet had to be sat on at an angle due to one side being up against the wall. The toilet seat needed to be fixed. in the shower, light fixtures were rusted. The worse part was I was kept awake through the night with repeated loud noises like old pipes. I filmed it and showed it to the receptionist in the morning. When I complained to the Hotel via email, no reply.

Staff who try hard with mediocre accommodation
Pros:

The staff were really good, on arrival, staying late to keep the bar open just for our party, and especially at breakfast in the morning.

Cons:

The room and bathroom had numerous issues, including shoddy fittings in the bathroom, broken bedside lamp, and above all showers which took forever to run hot.

Pros:

Very good, but could do with a link of paint hear and there. Also the shower tray needs re grouting. Not unclean just needs parts ect.

Cons:

The outside light came on every few seconds it had a black out blind but it still kept us awake
