Having booked in advance I was surprised to see 2 tables dragged together in front of us. The staff seemed harrassed, it was busy. Very expensive for what you get.
Went to the spa for a full body massage. Understood it has recently been taken over by a new firm. Reception was empty on arrival. The the therapist walked straight into me as was on their phone. No professionalism. Filled out the form that they require you to do so explaining i had some skin and back problems, the therapist (who was also the receptionist!), never even looked at it. When in the massage room, there was no discussion about how i would like the massage, just straight into it. Not able to relax as the radio was loud and kept losing signal so therapist had to keep getting up to change channels. The door was not locked and twice someone tried to come in apparently one was the cleaner. Would never return to this place. worst experience i have ever had.
We stayed at the Hartnoll Hotel for a family wedding held in the gardens. The staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient. The rooms were spotlessly clean and well equipped. Check in/out was very easy and the staff were happy for us to change rooms due to a physical disability. There is ample parking, and lots of space to sit both indoors and outdoors. The food at breakfast was superb, a good choice, and the waiting staff were excellent. This hotel is highly recommended, and we would definitely stay here again.
We went to the Hartnoll on Friday for their regular Friday Fizz, and what a treat it was!
The setting is simply perfect – beautiful gardens, a relaxed atmosphere, and a lovely ambience throughout. There was a wedding taking place in a separate area, along with a few family gatherings, but everything blended together to create a warm and welcoming feel.
The service was excellent. It was clear they were busy, yet nothing was too much trouble, and the team remained friendly and attentive throughout.
And I have to mention the burger – quite possibly the best I’ve ever had!
We’ll definitely be back. The Hartnoll is an absolute gem in Mid Devon and thoroughly deserves a visit. 🍾🍔🌿
Simply stunning.
The staff were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble.
I would thoroughly recommend this place.
As a vegan, the food was marvellous.
We arrived on Saturday hoping for availability and were fortunate to get the last room. We were delighted with our stay.
The room and ensuite was lovely, all
spotless and modern, as was the rest of the hotel. The bed was very comfortable. Dinner was outstanding, made even more
special by the
beautiful grounds.
We enjoyed pre-dinner drinks in the garden, and the staff were attentive, welcoming, and treated us
exceptionally well throughout. The food was excellent, we very much enjoyed dinner and breakfast. We would gladly return. And actually look forward to a return visit for Sunday lunch
Absolutely amazing hotel — I loved everything about it from the moment we arrived. The breakfast was incredible with so many fresh and delicious options, the gardens were beautifully maintained and so peaceful, and every member of staff was genuinely lovely, friendly, and helpful. The rooms were spotless, comfortable, and finished to a very high standard. The whole atmosphere of the hotel felt relaxing and luxurious. I honestly couldn’t fault a thing and would definitely return again in the future.”
Well...what a totally wonderful service, ambience and food ! I know how tough hospitality currently is but my goodness, you'd never know at this place. A monday lunchtime...packed...outstanding welcome and service, and food to match. A friends birthday, took a homemaked cake and they put candles on, sang happy birthday and served with an extra raspberry and clotted cream. THANK YOU all....we will be back without hesitation xx
Living close to the Hartnoll Hotel, I am a frequent visitor to the restaurant, bar, gardens and spa. The Hartnoll enjoys an excellent reputation in every way. It is welcoming, comfortable and spacious with good parking and is only two miles outside tiverton town. Easy to find, it is staffed by well trained waiters, good chefs and very helpful receptionists. Set in well kept, attractive grounds with sunny terraces, it is an ideal venue for weddings and functions and provides superb bedrooms and very tasty food. The quite recent addition of a luxury spa makes any stay an extra pleasure and the spa, offering a range of facilities and treatments is also open to non residents. I am happy to highly recommend the whole establishment which is popular and for me, a home from home . A proper english country hotel that fully meets expectations. For a stay in mid Devon or for a stop en-route you will not find better. You will be impressed and I am confident you enjoy it!
We looked in late afternoon, Easter Sunday, for a drink and, hopefully, a sandwich/scone etc.
What a brilliant welcome from the manager! He would see if he could rustle up a beef sandwich if that was ok..which it was. Taken to a lovely table in the conservatory. The sandwiches were superb - thick slices of delicious melt-in-mouth beef and lovely bread. Furthermore, we were invited - "would we like some roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese to accompany?" Yes please; they arrived and were outstanding too.
What a lovely, charming hotel with great staff. Cant wait to return, and more feasting.
Lovely hotel set in a beautiful garden. Our room was spacious and clean as was the bathroom. We had dinner and both really enjoyed our plates (we both chose from the fish menu). Breakfast was fabulous with a good selection of dishes. I had yoghurt with fresh berries, followed by Eggs Royale. All served to order with great coffee. I found the portions too big and hated to leave some but three poached eggs is too much for me. Others may love that.
This is one of my parent in laws favourite place to eat and go to events therefore was where we chose for the special birthday. The salmon was ok but quite salty. It did not need extra salt. The room we had for the party was a good size but they did not adhere to our requests for the tabs which made everything a little awkward. Was lovely to be catered for.
Delicious lunch at the Hartnoll Hotel today, with such excellent attention and service. The friendly team are especially careful with anyone who suffers from allergies, and always go above and beyond to adapt their menus for my wife Cathie to enjoy.
We found this lovely little place by chance
We went in and was made so welcome
Honestly they couldn’t be more friendly and welcoming
We ordered an the food came out
OMG there was enough for 2 on one plate
The food was delicious and lovely everything on your plate tasted of deliciously cooked food
A credit to the chef
But I don’t know the guys name that was running the restaurant but he made us and everyone else feel important
A big thanks to all as it was such a great experience
Will definitely be going back
As for the price very cheap for the food and the treatment you get
Thanks all
Simon Helen
We got upgraded to a superior room, which was a nice touch. We didn't use the gun safe, we forgot to bring them!!!
Nice comfy bed, good large shower and in general good standard of furniture and amenities.
Initial shower in the evening was tepid though, and the road was quite loud in the room. Double aspect windows flooded the room with light which was great
Very overpriced and sub standard service. Staff not fully trained and over booking left it difficult for them to cope.
Not the standard we expected for a special Chistmas lunch. No chance to socialise. Champagne reception was non existent, no chance to even take my coat off before being rushed through. So disappointing that some people left early. No finesse at all for a hotel of this quality. I could go on and on. What was to be a very special occasion turned out to be very very disappointing and grossly overrated.
Been before but not for a while - went for Sunday dinner with husband and daughter (11)) and could nut recommend it more!
The food is great and the atmosphere relaxing bug the thing that sticks out is the service - it is phenomena. So attentive without being intrusive you feel really looked after but not fussed around
The front of house staff are brilliant and having a proper front of house manager who spotted everything definitely allows this place to stand out
Loved it
Stayed hear a few times before when in the area on business.
Last visit in early December our room was cold and there was no hot water.
We got told this is because it’s an old building and we was offered an electric fan heater.
Food is over rated and over expensive, the staff behind the bar will charge you a service charge on your bill without even asking if this is ok.
On our most recent visit we was told we can not park outside as our vehicle is not a Range Rover or defender.
So if you drive a Range Rover or Defender you should have no trouble parking.
Everyone one else will have to dodge the potholes a park in the unlit gravel car park out the back. Bring your wellies as the potholes are deep.
We ordered the fish and chips for our evening meal, apparently there was a delay in the meal as the chef mistook no batter for no butter.
When the food finally arrived both had batter. So they took one away and left one on the table, fifteen minutes later they returned with a half size fish with no batter. One meal was stone cold and the other looked more like a child’s portion.
Will never stay again. £ 400.00 for two nights in a cold room with no hot water.
Where to start well exceptional would be a good place my husband son and I went for lunch on the 11th December for my husband’s birthday the level of service was without doubt of the highest standard the quality of food and how sympathetically it was cooked was above and beyond nothing was rushed and within a blink of an eye two and a half hours had gone by and even the bill was a pleasant surprise incredibly well priced for the quality we received we consider ourselves very lucky to have this gem on our doorstep
Had a work Christmas party .. for some reason the hotel thought it was acceptable to allocate where you sit .. and are not happy if you move . I understand this makes their job easier as they know where to deliver the pre ordered food , but , friends separated etc . Customers should be able to chose where they sit .
Food was ok , starter very small ( but delicious) main was a really good portion but the meat didn’t looked cooked properly.. I saw several being returned, I just chose not to eat most of mine .
As soon as dessert was eaten we had to give up our table to enable the staff to set up for the disco , was told to go to the casino table ( pointless gimmick ).
I must say , I had high expectations for the dinner / night but unfortunately they were not met . Wouldn’t rush back .
