Not first time staying here
Waitress at breakfast definitely didn't want to be there..
We didn't pose a problem but even getting a pot of hotel water was an inconvenience
It was I rushed, friendly and excellent value, they upgraded us unprompted

This was quite possibly the perfect hotel. The staff was incredible - from the outstanding concierge (who helped us book our outings!) to the helpful front desk staff who made me an early morning coffee when we had to leave the hotel at 4 am, to the bar servers. We loved the room and its beautiful touches - including turn-down service. This is a top-shelf hotel!
I cannot think of a single thing that I did not like. Loved all of it!
Receptionist catriona was brilliant.
Fabulous staff, beautiful room with so many amenities (postcadds, mints, earplugs, umbrella, cafetiere) which was really impressive. Beautiful decor. The Jo Malone toiletries was very special! One of the best, if not THE best breakfasts we have ever had.
Something had been spilled on the carpet on the right-hand side of the bed.

The hairdryer wasn’t good. There wasn’t much shelving in the bathroom or places to set my wash items but that’s quite a minor thing.
Reception was excellent. Jack, a trainee, was very helpful upon arrival. When I asked for adjustments to my dinner reservation, he was able to make it immediately for me.
Dinner in the restaurant was excellent as was the service provided by James.
The location was exceptionally noisy. There was street noise that sounded like drag racing outside of the building overnight. There was no soundproofing. Housekeeping service did not service my room despite leaving the "service the room" tag on the door. The quality of the bed was poor, seemingly an older mattress that sagged. The robe was not in good condition, appearing to be overly-used with threads hanging off of it. The size of the room and the furnishings were not 5 star quality. Having just stayed in an amazing 4 star hotel the week prior, I decided to give myself a special weekend at a 5 start hotel and found the Fitzwilliam to be less than exceptional. Most importantly, the Fitzwilliam does not meet criteria for a 5 star quality hotel nor was the value worth the price of a 5 star hotel.

The bedroom had a terrible damp smell. We couldn't open the window and had to use the aircon in the room during the night.

Personally I found the bed/pillows uncomfortable. One pillow wasn't enough, two was too much. Bed had a duvet that was too heavy for me.
Great location, nice room, clean, friendly staff
The breakfast was a disappointment. It took a very long time from ordering (and it wasn’t busy at all), and the breakfast was very average. Somehow ruined fried eggs, toast arrived burnt and falling apart, and just felt cheap. The buffet wasn’t special either.
Coffee was also not nice. It’s a shame and you’d expect more from a 5 star, especially since you pay extra for it. I would rate 10/10 if it wasn’t for this.
Room was lovely. Very comfortable.
Hairdriers should have a nozzle.

Service on 2nd day of our stay was not up to standard. Forgot our coffee & toast. Young staff on duty did not pay attention to their tables.
Parking was very expensive.
