Hotel had great character but the food was terrible.
Pros:

Location fantastic, staff very friendly and helpful. Hotels character was in evidence but modern standards maintained.

Cons:

This hotel is bordering on being a national treasure. It has wonderful character and has kept much of this while keeping pace with modern standards.
It is such a pity that the meal we had in the restaurant was of such a low standard. I had a friend and his family visiting from the continent and recommended we meet and eat in the hotel for convenience. His children have just started to like steak and I'm concerned this experience will put them off. The steaks were not cooked as requested. They were so incredible tough that everyone actually struggled to cut them. I also had to go and ask for steak knives (these should have been provided) but this made little difference. They were under seasoned, dry and tasteless.
Any cook (let alone chef) worth his salt should be able to cook a steak.
I know of several places not too distant from the Commodore that for much the same price you'd get a juicy steak done to your liking.
This was not a good advertisement for our grass fed beef that we peddle overseas.

Great location
Pros:

Excellent location within an easy walk of the main shopping district, and Hop On - Hop Off bus just 2 minutes away. Friendly and helpful staff eager to assist me with information to sort out my mobile coverage issues.
Lovely older hotel with history and period furnishings. Comfortable bed, great food in The Vault. A brilliant start to my Ireland stay.

Suites are fabulous- I would recommend.
Pros:

We were upgraded and the suite was stunning. Easy check in. Great location. Staff were mostly attentive and helpful.

Cons:

The staff on the breakfast shift ignored us for quite a while.

They were chatting and it wasn’t the breakfast experience I would have expected. I felt they were just kids chatting and hanging out. One girl was doing most of the work. The food was ok too but not exceptional. But the overall hotel experience was uplifted by the beautiful room.

Good but could and should have been much better for such a prominent hotel.
Pros:

Staff were all good.

O'Sheas Bistro also good for breakfast and dinner,

Cons:

Room was sparse and very dated.

Car park a very depressing space and poor advert for the hotel.

Nicely located hotel
Pros:

Great hotel with everything you need for your stay! We didn't eat there so can't comment on dinner or breakfast. We parked right outside of hotel on the on street parking. Room and bathroom were a great size. A complimentary rubber duck was a great treat along with biscuits and muffins.

Accueil très sympathique par un jeune français (corse), bonne communication et conseils. Très belle vue sur mer. Smart TV. Chambre confortable.

Cons:

Manque prises de courant. Trouvé plusieurs cheveux dans la literie et la salle de bain.

WE enjoyed the ambience of the Commodore and staff were very helpful
Pros:

We found the location excellent everything is so handy. Unfortunately we were very disappointed by the breakfast and decided not to eat there again for breakfast. The evening meal was good and so was the service.

Cons:

The breakfast menu was not comprehensive enough - choice was limited and descriptions vague.

We loved being so close to the water, the beautiful view and the easy walk around the beautiful village.
Pros:

The location could not have been better, we could look at our windows to see the beautiful harbor and the lovely park right near the water. It was also a block away from the immigration, museum and close to lots of restaurants. This made it a perfect choice.

Cons:

This is something that cannot be helped, but the hotel is old and it definitely shows its age, even though it’s going through remodeling.
