Staff were lovely and the place had been upgraded so it was very clean and smart. Breakfast was good and evening meal in dining room excellent.
It was too hot and could have benefited from open door before we arrived during cleaning to let breeze through. We had a fan though
Great breakfast
Overpriced
The food in the restaurant was delicious.
The bed and bedding were very comfortable.
The spa needs some attention
Lovely suite and very comfortable
All staff were friendly and welcoming
The room balcony wasn’t clean and due to that could not sit out and relax
It was covered in algae and was apparent that it had not been maintained
The chairs located in the garden terrace were requiring some renovation or replacement as you had to be careful sitting as ready to fall apart
Location, friendly and helpful staff. Great rooms with a great breakfast 👏👏👏
Great location, fantastic rooms with a great breakfast. All the staff were amazing, friendly and helpful. Also has a great spar! 👏👏
We booked this hotel for a night in the area, before visiting Predator Park the following day. It also coincided with a special occasion, so we wanted to stay somewhere nice. The hotel was easy to find using the sat nav, and though parking spaces were limited, we did find a space.
The lady on reception was very welcoming and friendly, and we were delighted to have been given an upgraded room as part of our package that included Sunday lunch. We were tired and hungry from the journey, and so were escorted to the dining room, which was lovely and airy, and pleasantly laid out. The lunch menu was very limited, however, and as vegetarians, there was only one vegetarian main course (and two roasts) – which my husband would not have liked. We were very impressed that another dish was offered to him, and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. We found the food to be rather disappointing, however. The soup and both main courses were very bland, and apart from the cauliflower cheese (which was lovely) and the roast potatoes, the rest of the vegetables were overcooked. The Yorkshire puddings were awful! However, the hotel deal was very good value, and we didn’t leave hungry.
Despite the upgrade, we were bitterly disappointed with the room, and in retrospect should have asked for our original booking. The room (225) was huge, but so poorly and sparsely furnished – almost like an afterthought. The heat was overwhelming on such a hot day, and we did appreciate that a fan had been left on and windows open. But the noise from two huge extractor fans under one of the windows, and the stench of cooked meat from morning to evening, was unbearable. The room was beautifully clean throughout, but the beds (two pushed together) felt tired. We did not sleep well, and due to the oppressive heat and smell (when the windows were open), we spent as much time as possible away from it.
On first impressions, the hotel is very nice. But on closer inspection, the level of cleanliness in the public areas was quite poor. It was far too hot to use the swimming pool, but when we checked it out it looked tired and oppressive. And the ladies’ changing room was really quite dirty. This was very surprising, given that the bedroom was immaculate. Even on a colder day, we would not have used that facility.
Breakfast the following morning was good. Enough variety to suit everyone, though everything seemed to taste sweet – even the beans! But we found plenty to eat, and although we would have normally eaten much earlier than 8 am, it was nice that the restaurant wasn’t too busy at that time.
So, all in all, a mixed bag. The staff were great, the food variable, the hotel below standard in terms of cleanliness in some areas (does anyone ever check the library?), and our particular room was sadly awful. But we did appreciate the kind gesture.
Nice hotel in good location, station 2 mins across the road,so good base.Staff pleasant and efficient, only had breakfast and not dinner, but this was good
Only problem was the heat of the room, uncomfortable, small fan in the room made no difference, think because the building is old that the walls are thick, and keep heat in,general areas of hotel fine because plenty of doors and windows open, window in our bedroom opened inwards,no breeze came in.
Location, setting, staff friendliness, clean hotel
Room 228 - above kitchen so food smell a bit overpowering in the room. Low ceiling also an issue for taller guests like myself.
The staff and setting was lovely, the food was great and would recommend this hotel to Friends and Family. Lovely part of the country .
Nothing its great as it is in the Countryside
Location
Needs a little updating
Exceptionally friendly staff, immaculate rooms, beautiful food and wine! A perfect getaway.
The staff were amazingly friendly. We had a catalogue of unfortunate events during out stay but the staff were always calm. polite and wanted to make sure that we're looked after.
A room check prior to us checking in would have been beneficial. The room was dirty, the shower would not drain and the handle to the wardrobe door had come lose with the screws hanging so far out, they sliced into my hand. We were unlucky with breakfast and were left without plates, fruit juice, all hot foods with the exception of the hashbrowns, not cups or mugs for hot drinks and only crusts/ends of loafs for toast. There were no pastries. I ordered a veggie sausage which I think was delivered to the wrong table as when we left we saw an uneaten veggie sausage on s saucer on an adjoining table. The meal in the that previous night was good but the room was dirty and at no point were the tables cleaned and the dirty highchair removed. The same staff seemed to be working all shifts (and were complaining about that too) so they were shattered but sitting next to a dirty highchair and having food debris under our table was a bit much for the calibre of hotel (And it really is a beautiful hotel)
We were also promised a refund for the breakfasts as we paid to eat elsewhere but to date, that refund if yet to materialise.
Lovey clean quiet, easy book in, room was fabulous, information all clear and readily available.
Wonderful relaxing breakfast and atmosphere only complaint would be the uht "milk" in the room
