Dreadful, bearing in mind two of our party are 87 years old.
Pros:

Breakfast was not available. Despite understanding this had been requested. Nil staff presence in the morning. Evening meal was limited to a ‘Texas barbecue’. Not appropriate to our family. Rooms not serviced. Told by manager ‘we hadn’t put label on the door’. Yet no label available in either room. Saturday 11 July, we were all kept awake around midnight by a member of the public (guest ??), battering the fire escape door for 2 hours, and yelling foul abusive language. Endeavoured to call the ‘on call number’. Phone switched off. Was on point of calling police. Door was damaged. No staff present when we departed to share information with.

Cons:

Minimal customer service, and we were lied too. Manager stated she would ‘investigate the servicing of the rooms’, and update us. We are still waiting.

Lovely staff, terrible access
Pros:

Huge room, comfortable bed, lovely staff, good food, fantastic burger

Cons:

Having to use the fire escape from 10pm until noon. It was very difficult to carry suitcases down when checking out. We got a message telling us about this after we had already checked in. There was a very high bath with shower over which had no grab rails to climb in and out. The water pressure was so low that you would not be able to use the bath anyway. The access to the carpark is very narrow and not signposted.

Overall the hotel met most of my requirements. Totally let down by the absurd use of the fire escap
Pros:

The location was excellent and the hotel was well maintained internally and externally
The staff were pleasant and efficient
The rooms were comfortable
The meals were very good although disappointing that breakfast was not available

Cons:

The hotel closed at 11pm after which entry was obtained by a wooden fire escape at the rear of the building. The internal doors were locked and there were no staff on duty until approximately 11am when they came in to prepare for lunch. As an elderly female, access by a fire escape was totally unacceptable. If this had been made clear at the time of booking, I would never have considered staying there. On the day of departure I had to arrange for a relative who was staying elsewhere, to come and carry my suitcase down from the second floor as there were no staff on duty. A wooden fire escape with no other means of escape is an accident waiting to happen. I cannot believe that this is actually legal.

A pub with rooms near the centre of town.
Pros:

The room was comfortable and well equipped, the bar and waiting staff were fine and the drink and food good, both for a light lunch and in the evening. There is a pleasant area at the front of the Plough to sit out to enjoy a drink and there is another at the back. The Plough is near the centre of the town so is convenient for all the attractions.

Cons:

I was astonished to find that it does not do breakfast (but other places nearby fill the gap.). Also, when the front doors are closed (up to lunch-time and late evening) guests enter and leave by an interlocked fire escape which is a bit difficult and steep for elderly guests.

This could be an excellent hotel if the points above are dealt with, until they are I won't be back.
Pros:

There was no breakfast. We liked the lunch and dinner.
The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful.
The hotel was spotless and well decorated and in a good location.

Cons:

I was disappointed that there was no breakfast. I did not like that the hotel's public doors, inside and outside locked at 11pm and access after that was via the fire escape. I did not like that the fire escape was made of wood, had narrow steps and was close to the kitchen.
I am convinced that this is not within health and safety rules, and feel it is an accident waiting to happen.I did not like that there was no staff available during the night.

Spoiled stay
Pros:

Room had what we needed for our stay. Bed was comfortable.

Cons:

No breakfast provision.
Room was accessed via external staircase at back of building after 10pm. Stay spoiled by some one trying to gain entry by trying to force fire escape door from the outside on three occasions during the night this constituted to loud banging and disrupted sleep.

A beautiful building and rooms but spoiled by food not being available

A wonderfully appointed position in Alnwick town close to the Castle. A very comfortable room.
