Friendly arrival and greeted by Steve, Explained services available and opportunity to book a breakfast which is a separate price to the room. The breakfast was very tasty and good value. Thoroughly enjoyed by the four of us utilising 2 rooms. Will certainly return there when we’re back in Torquay.
Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable, with a kingsize bed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel has car parking, its own bar and is quite close to the harbour and town centre. We would like to stay there if we are in Torquay again.
Every thing was very good except the garden furniture could do with replacing.
Great hotel just a short stroll up the hill from the Harbour so shops, pubs etc within easy walking distance Great bar on site too. Hotel and room spotless and comfy bed!
Would have been great if Bar had done meals and whilst the pool was great and welcome, some minor cosmetic improvements would make a huge difference eg. Get rid of the ramshackle plastic shed and put a few potted flower pots. Nothing major, was still great but these would just smarten the pool area up.
Very clean the family that run the hotel where lovely. We did worry that noise from the bar would disturb us we never heard a thing. I also enjoyed the Griffin
It was very warm but that's not the hotels fault we had 2 fans which helped
The staff were all so nice, the hotel location was about 10-20 mins walk from the harbour (depending on how fast you walk). Its not far away from other attractions either like the Model Village and Caverns, and Ottocombe Beach is a must go to!
My dad is not in the best of health at the moment, and the staff could not do enough for him whilst we were there. There is a pub on site where you can play free pool & they have regular music entertainment on (we unfortunately did not stay during a weekend to see it, but it sounded like some good shows coming up on the notice board). The rooms were very clean & they provided everything you could possibly need - a fan, a mini fridge, hair dryer, hangers in the wardrobes, towels for the bathrooms etc... There is a pool on site as well which guests can use, which was a great bonus! You just have to let the hotel owner know you want to go to it in the morning so he can open the gate for you as it is on private land.
The beds and pillows are SO comfy!
The breakfast which was included in our stay was brilliant! You get a great variety of choice such as Yogurts/fruits/cereals, crumpets/toasted pancakes, and a full English breakfast or Lighter breakfasts (you can tweak it to suit your preference i.e. no baked beans, scrambled eggs instead of fried eggs, just have a bacon butty etc...).
We really enjoyed our stay here.
There was no hook on the inside of bathroom door in Room 24, which I think would be a good addition to the bathroom for hanging a dressing gown or swim wear on to dry. It appears there are no toilets downstairs when the Griffin bar is closed during the day. So when you go to the pool during the day and the Griffin bar is closed after breakfast time is finished, you have to go back upstairs to your room in your swimming costumes & towels in order to use a toilet before coming back downstairs again and back to the pool (if there was any other toilets other than in the Griffin bar ones downstairs in the reception area/lower level of the hotel, we were not aware of them or didnt find them during our stay!).
Room 23 does not have a black out blind, which my brother found when it started getting lighter in the morning he would wake up early and struggle to get back off to sleep due to the brightness coming into the room, but that was the only thing he noted about his room. Mine and my parents rooms both had black out blinds, so we had no issues at all.
These are very minor things though in the grand scheme of things. We overall enjoyed staying at this hotel very much, and I would happily stay here again in the future and recommend to others.
Good location as not far from centre/harbour area: walkable. Has a large bar & lots of choices. Clean areas/rooms. Usually private parking.
Before my stay I asked if I could have more tea facilities for my room and the Hotel obliged.
Le personnel est très accueillant.
Le petit déjeuner est minimaliste.
Loved the quirkiness of the hotel and the fact that it wasn't the same as every other generic one. Also has a pool which during a heatwave felt like we could have been anywhere abroad.
The temp in the bedroom was really hot. We had a heatwave. This was nothing to do with the hotel though. Can't help the weather.
Nice old style hotel. Very central to town. Room a little small but clean and quiet. Breakfast very good both days.
No lifts.
Buon livello di pulizia e accoglienza, buon panorama e servizi accessori. Drink di benvenuto, precisione nelle procedure. Simpatia
The property was simple and cosy. Free tea and coffee in reception that you can use, plus the appliances in the room too. Bed were very comfy and pillows weren’t like paper, they genuinely were plump and comfy. Room is very clean, I only booked a standard room for work purposes.
The shower is abit small and the pressure of the shower wasn’t the greatest, pressure was weak. But very clean and water temp was great.
Location. Parking. dogs aloud. Very nice club/bar.
Nice room on the top floor (getting too old to climb all the stairs) No breakfast available until Friday. Seaview obstructed by large tree.
Very friendly hosts and staff. Excellent location, close to the town. Free parking. Lovely room with sea view and big comfortable bed. Shower was good, tea and coffee making facilities plus a small fridge.
The breakfast was excellent, bacon in particular.
Dog friendly.
Everything was excellent.
Helpful freindley staff . Couldn't ask for more enjoyed our visit outstanding
Everything's 9
Friendly, greeting when we arrived despite the hotel suffering an unplanned electricity cut and refuse vehicle knocking down part of the hotel wall and blocking the access road.
The Pub downstairs in the hotel was really great.
Bed was really comfortable and we had a corner room with two windows. This was really handy given the very hot weather and we were able to get a bit of a breeze
I don't think there was anything I "didn't like". It was an older building and whilst I might normally have chosen something more contemporary it had lots of character. Parking could be a little tight but the hotel had done a good job with the available space. We were so close to town that we didn't use the car between arriving and leaving
