Beautiful location.
TV old and did not work.
WFI password difficult.
Breakfast not up to standard.
⭐ A Hugely Disappointing Stay at Asara Estate & Hotel
What should have been a rare, peaceful night away from our children turned into an incredibly disappointing stay at Asara Estate & Hotel.
Our room was only ready 45 minutes after the scheduled check-in time. Given that we had deliberately booked a short getaway to rest and recharge, this was an unfortunate start.
The real disappointment, however, came later.
It was extremely cold in the Winelands, so before heading down for a late lunch, we switched on the heater in our room, expecting to return to a warm and comfortable space. We returned shortly before 19h00 to find the room still freezing and the heater not working.
Housekeeping came to attend to it that evening, but despite this, the heater was still not working the following morning. Having someone arrive yet again to deal with the issue during the final precious moments of what was supposed to be our restful getaway was incredibly frustrating.
And that wasn't the only maintenance issue. The bath plug didn't work either, meaning another small but important part of what should have been a relaxing stay simply wasn't functional.
What makes this experience even more disappointing is that our previous stay at Asara was exceptional. It was precisely because of that experience that I booked Asara again without hesitation. We came back expecting the same level of service, comfort and attention to detail.
Instead, this stay fell short on almost every level.
Things can go wrong at any hotel — we understand that. But when multiple issues occur during a short stay, and basic room amenities aren't functioning, it becomes the hotel's responsibility to ensure the guest experience is recovered. Unfortunately, that simply didn't happen for us.
When you rarely get the opportunity to have a night away without your children, you look forward to it, invest in it and expect it to be genuinely restorative.
Im Prinzip alles. Aber besonders die Weinführung und -probe mit Calvin. Seine fachlichen Ausführungen und d seine sympathische Art haben uns sehr gefallen. Vielen Dank.
Nichts
The staff was extremely friendly and check-in was easy. The room was clean and spacious. Beautiful setting and views. Good wine.
I don't feel that I got value for money. I booked the accommodation a week in advance and it was supposedly on special and included a free upgrade, but when I checked bookings.com on the day we were checking in the price was more than 40% lower than what I paid. I feel that the price was falsely advertised initially. Most of the facilities were closed for winter. They only offered dinner at the wine bar with a very limited menu. The table next to ours got a hair in the their food. There seemed to have been a shortage of staff as we had to go look for somebody to take our order and even though the staff were very friendly they were not attentive and the service was lacking. Also, shortly after check-in I got a suspicious message on my phone asking me to verify my reservation. The hotel said that there was a security breach on bookings.com and the problem was not on their side.
The estate is a hidden gem with lots of fine amenities. It's private and exclusive with a great backdrop and beautiful views of the vineyards. They have wine tasting and variety of Asara wines to be enjoyed with meals. The view from the room was amazing. The complimentary wine bottle is a nice bonus. Highly recommended.
The bathroom basins were not properly cleaned, there were toothpaste stains which was a bit of a turn off. But overall everything was good.
The room was lovely and spacious, with a comfortable bed; the views were fantastic. Overall, the place is beautifully manicured. It's a wonderful choice for a relaxing stay.
Our room was too far away from the main building, restaurant, pool, etc. Fortunately, the weather was good, but if it had rained, it would have been uncomfortable.
Also, we came back to the hotel by car from Stellenbosch in the evening, and there were no lights at the entrance gate (nor on the route outside) so not only was it difficult to find the entrance but also it felt quite dangerous.
The staff was extremely helpful and friendly
I had a broken tile in my room, which was dangerous as it had sharp edges. I did report it, but it was not repaired.
The views are outstanding
Nothing everything was superb.
