The. Hotel decor and prime location
Not a thing
We stayed here in October 2023 during our first visit to Bologna and knew this was where we wanted to stay for our second visit in May 2026. The hotel has an excellent location, breakfast and rooms. The staff are cordial and helpful. The hotel is very clean and well maintained; it hasn’t aged since our first visit. Excellent overall!
We liked everything.
I had a fantastic stay at Art Hotel Orologio and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city. The location is absolutely perfect...right in the heart of everything, making it easy to explore the city's sights, restaurants, and shops on foot.
Each morning started with a delicious breakfast, offering a great variety of fresh and high-quality options. It was the perfect way to fuel up for a beautiful day in Bologna.
What truly made the experience special, though, was the staff. They were incredibly caring, attentive, and always ready to help with a smile. Whether it was offering recommendations or assisting with scheduling a taxi, they went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and memorable.
Overall, a wonderful hotel experience that I would happily return to!
...we stayed at the Art Hotel Orologio during Labor Day. The holiday spirit was alive and noisy! There's little the hotel could do to lessen the noise of the holiday concert in the square but they did the best they could do by putting us in a room at the rear of the hotel.
However, we did ask the front desk to
book us dinner reservations since we were scheduled for a walking tour of the city, when we returned there was no reservation and a shift change resulting in us scrambling. Fortunately, the replacement front desk person recommended another nearby restaurant which was able to seat us. This accounts for the 4/5 stars in this review. Why?
Because during such a busy holiday (we had no idea of the holiday or related crowds) we had hoped our original request was complied with or at minimum, told there was a problem.Otherwise, this was a boutique hotel with plenty of ambiance.
An excellent base in the very heart of the city. We had an extremely comfortable room, with a delightful view of the clock tower. There was more space in the room and bathroom than you would expect from the average Italian city hotel room and everything was spotlessly clean.
Hotel staff very friendly and attentive, especially the receptionists, who were always ready to assist.
Breakfast very pleasant although we were a little surprised to have to pay an extra small fee for freshly cooked eggs when paying such a level of room fee. Really this should be included for these prices. Also, the bread selection was rather disappointing for Italy - we would have expected more interesting options. Maybe this was due to the public holiday weekend and less availability from bakeries.
Overall a lovely place to stay if you want to have a comfortable, central base to explore this beautiful city.
The hotel is in an excellent location, close to Piazzza Maggiore. It is ideal as a base for exploring the city and the hills south of the city.
The breakfast is very good with a variety of food, including some interesting local dishes. The room used for serving breakfast has a great view over the Piazzetta in front of the hotel and of the Palazzo d'Accursio. The room got busy at peak time due to a large family group using it, but the staff provided us with an additional table in the quiter adjacent sitting area.
The staff are really friendly and helpful.
There are a number of different types of rooms, all with quite detailed descriptions, some described as suites. We chose the wrong type of room! The room we booked was the suite called "La Croce del Sud", partly due to its quirky decor but mainly because it had a large bathroom with a bathtub (many of the other rooms only have a shower). It was large and quiet (as advertised), but it was really one big room with a large, comfortable double bed and two bed-settees; in our opinion it wasn't a suite. It would be ideal for a couple sharing a room with two children, but wasn't good for us as a couple. The main drawback for us was that it had no views at all and very limited light. The description was that the room overlooked an internal courtyard - in fact, this is a small light well measuring about 3m x 4m. As a consequence, the room is very quiet (as described) but is dark. We were able to look at a couple of other rooms on the day we left - they would have been far more suitable for us (and cheaper).
Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Our room was quite expensive compared to others in the hotel and wasn't good value for us as a couple, but that was really our fault for not checking the details with the hotel.
Locatie is erg goed. En super aardige schoonmaker uit Bangladesh. Zeer hulpvaardig en attent.
We hadden per ongeluk een appartement gehuurd ipv kamer. Een zeer sfeerloze bedoeling.
My wife and I travel through Italy frequently, and usually come to Bologna once or twice a year. If you are looking for a perfect location to explore Bologna, you couldn't do better than Art Hotel Orologio. It's cental location, in the heart of Piazza Maggiore, makes seeing the sites easy and convenient. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable. The rooms clean, noiseless and comfortable. The cost, incredibly reasonable compared to it's competition. In addition, the breakfast, that came free with our stay was excellent and caters to all food allergy types.
We have stayed in several hotels in Bologna throughout the years and this is by far the best experience we have had. We will be back. If you are passing through Bologna, I urge you to consider staying here.
