The location was good.
The hotel listed air conditioning on both its main Booking.com page and the room description, which was the primary reason I booked it during London’s heat wave. Upon arrival, I was told that the air conditioning had not worked for some time. This had not been disclosed to me in advance, even though I had communicated with the hotel several weeks earlier about an early check-in.
I was moved to a basement room that was extremely hot, with no air conditioning or effective ventilation. The room shared a wall with the laundry and breakfast kitchen, so there was constant staff noise throughout the day. The staff bathroom was also immediately beside the room, and I could hear people clearly through the walls. The window looked into a below-ground courtyard containing renovation debris, where staff regularly went to smoke and could look directly into the room.
The staff’s response was also disappointing. When I asked whether they had any fans, they laughed and said the hotel had a couple, but other guests had already taken them. One staff member joked that another guest had taken two, but they made no effort to obtain an additional fan or provide any meaningful solution. The room was so hot that I had to take cold showers each evening just to tolerate it.
I also found the conduct at the front desk unprofessional. When I was waiting for a taxi at approximately 4 a.m., the front-desk attendant was watching a film in another language at full volume in the small lobby.
Overall, the room was not as described, and the hotel should have informed me about the air-conditioning issue before my arrival. I felt that the staff treated a serious comfort issue as something amusing rather than making a genuine effort to help.
It was easy to get, too. Suited to where I was going to over my stay.
I didn't really stay long as I was out most of the night, so I only came to sleep, and I at to leave early to go back home. I'll book a longer stay over next time.
